Newff's Log/Blog

Just something to keep me motivated, to do when bored at work, maybe get some people following it, and i'll try to get some stories/pics in here so it's not just a results log type of thing.

So I have been a slight winner/breakeven for 17k hands at 25NL. I won't blame it all on bad luck but holy **** did I get coolered often, people flopping quads to my boat, Losing AA to AK, KK into AA, end rant/. Anyway I still have a lot to learn and am determined to beat 200NL within a year from now. I am new to cash so I don't know if that it realistic or easy with detication.

I had a sick session last night, I ended up like almost16 buy-ins. I even lost AA to AKs during the session, and had 99 on 922 and had 22 slap me in the face..both hands for stacks. I obviously ran hot when it comes to the hands, but I think what makes a big difference is acually knowing how to get value from them.

I'm looking into getting some cheap coaching, like in the $50/hr range to tune up my game.

Sick Graph Below

So I've been working for the last week and have been studying cash for about 1.5 weeks. I learned a lot in that time and it's quite exiting. So I played my first session of 25NL yesterday and the sick part is I played 2 tables for 8.5 hours total yesterday..taking small breaks to have a cigarette or check a few hands. First I loaded up 3 tables but when I started playing I had some kind of mental block..everything I learned it's like I had forgotten. So I cut down to 2 tables and decided to really pay attention and in no time it was all coming back to me slowly. I guess no matter how much you watch or read..until you apply it to your game it won't stick.

Overall i'm happy with the session, I won 3 buyins but I obviously misplayed some hands, and was unsure about some others. When I play I have a sheet of paper in front of me and I note any hand i'm unsure of..so tonight instead of putting in a big session I will focus on these hands, post them and stuff.

So my graph is below and I have a question. Since this is my first session of a decent amount of hands i'm unsure about the way my graph looks. So as you can see it's like my graph slowly goes down until I win a big pot. What i'm wondering is if this is standard or just means I'm not getting anything to play and that are mostly where i'm folding my blinds with no hands for a while. It just seems that IF I didn't win those big pots or stack anyone...my graph would be just going down.

Thanks for reading, and if anyoine could post a comment about my question it would be appreciated.

So I have once again decided to try cash and this time I will stick to it, I have learned a lot just this week alone, and it's very exiting..it beats checking a shove in SNG Wiz lol. I will be cross posting my blog from my original that I started a little while ago which is here www.newffpoker.blogspot.com, please check it out..I will now be updating regularly. So here is the post I made on it yesterday. Also I have today and tomorrow until my work week is over then I have 7 days off and will start the grind.

I should also mention these were 6max SnG's so the downswings can be much worse than the 30 BI downswings that are in the 9mans, thought I would say that so people weren't like WTF this idiot thinks a 58 BI downswing was mostly variance?

I have been all this week or longer just constantly thinking about my poker future and what I want to do and I decided that I'm done with SNG's. They are so boring and I end up not being able to play my A-Game because of it. A big part of my decision was because I went on a 58 buy-in downswing which I know was mostly variance, the other part is realizing there is more money out there to be made in other games. Now I will say that I could have minimized the downswing some because my focus dropped at the end but I mean how many people can go on a decent size downswing and say their play was not affected? Not many, if anyone.

Sooo...With the $1300 roll I have left I will start learning and playing 25NL 6max cash. Yeah sure cash games are more complicated but theres more money there and they are more interesting. I have been watching videos and my god they are great.

My goal is to get to a level where I can at least make on average $4000 a month, any more than that is just extra...back in Newfoundland where I am from that is a very good income, where I live now in Fort McMurray, Alberta I make $3200 a month and that is like the lowest paying job besides working in a grocery store or McDonald's (people get $14+/hr working in McDonald's here) and back in Newfoundland like $8 if that much. So if I can make 4K a month back in Newfoundland, where I want to be, it would be soo sweet.

So I've been working every day since I decided to switch to cash, but as soon as I get home I manage to put in a few hundred hands, tomorrow is my last shift then I am off for 7 days unless I do some overtime, more than likely i'll do a day or two. So far i've got 3 sessions in and am happy with them..I feel i'm playing good but I want to post my stats so I can get some comments on whether or not any of my numbers look bad. The only thing I can think of is maybe i'm raising too often in the CO, and maybe C-Betting too much, BUT it seems to work..so far. They fold a lot and when I do get called I C-bet most flops and usually take it down, I'd like to know what my graph is saying..Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some screenshots that i cropped, not sure why they are blurry, maybe because i resized them in MS Paint but it's still visible. Next time i'll make sure it's clear to see.

Well i'm at work now and decided to start a blog here to keep me motivated, it's sunday so it's a slow day in the office..I have about an hour of paperwork to do then it's facebook and studying cash games for the next 11 hours. Just a little about myself, i'm 21 years old and living in Fort McMurray, Alberta and originally am from Newfoundland, Canada. I work at Canadian Natural Resources Limited Horizon Project which is an Oil Sands site currently in construction. The site just started producing low quality oil to start (about 50,000 barrels so far) and will be one of the biggest Oil producers in Canada and I think eventually all of North America. I started as a security guard posted at access gates here, then eventually worked my way into the office here doing "Site Access Control", basically I control who's allowed in and out ( about 15,000 people).

Started playing poker 2 years ago with friends, studied it some and got hooked, made a few deposits online and lost it, got better made some but donked it away playing tilted and underolled. I joined an irc channel based from twoplustwo (#stt) on dalnet, and met some really nice guys who have had some awsome scores and they really helped me understand the psychology of poker/running bad and helped my sng game a lot. I have a really low sample because of my work schedule and I stopped playing for a while because I was getting bored with sng's but i'm +$800 at the $6.50's on FT, not much but I still think if I could put in volume I could crush that limit, but i'm not worried about short term.., I think in the long term learning cash will be better.

So I subscribed to Leggo yesterday, bought Holdem Manager and I am going to try my best to learn cash games. I'd say 90% of what I played before were sng's ($6.50's on FT), and also some MTT's which I was way underolled for. I still love sng's just because of how they play..but when you play thousands they get really boring and that that stops me from putting in the volume I should. I had like $70 in my FT account because I withdrew the rest when I went on vacation, so instead of depositing I figured first i'll take a shot at 25nl...if i lose i'll deposit and use good BR management, if i win i'll continue to play the same stakes...I really don't want to start at 10nl because I think what i'ved learned the last 2 years combined with all the studying now..I should be able to beat it, even though I could bust it so easily obv. Anyway this is getting way too long, I'll end with my goals..Lata

My Goals:

-Not go busto playing severely underolled in 25nl.
-Study like a ***** and win some $$.
-Move up
-Keep a job but make 3-4K a month on the side from poker
