Day Two

To the people who asked me to buy PT/HEM to help document the challenge. I of course already have PT but choose to play on sites where PT is not support. This is primarily because I feel it curbs the edge; by this I mean it helps the bad/average regs a lot more than it helps the better regs. Of course I consider myself a better reg thus I feel playing on non PT sites is much more profitable for me. I would love to have every hand I’ve ever played in a database and be able to produce graphs and such for the challenge but alas I am money hungry. I will post any interesting hands and some theory in this blog to keep it of interest.

Anyway, played for under an hour today. Mostly pretty standard flipped a few times with regs AK vs. JJ, AK vs. 99 etc all fairly standard. The 99 was fairly light but me and the reg do tend to go at it. Two semi interesting hands described below:

Hand 1 - The villain is a bad-ish reg, who really wants to stack me and views me as pretty agro.

I raised UTG with KK, get 3bet by BB. I call as haven’t 4bet anyone yet and think it looks far too strong.

Flop: 2A2r he check, check.

Turn: 6 he check, I bet half pot.

Here he rarely has an A. He’d bet with an A as he’d want the money in and views me as pretty spewy.

River: 8 check, I push for about a 2/3 pot bet.

Think this is a fairly obvious value push on the river, he has a pair between 8s and aces so often here. My image enabled him to talk himself into a call with JJ and then berate me in the chat.

Hand 2 - Another reg, the table broke and we were left playing heads up he was obviously not comfortable as he wasn’t topping up. I took advantage and rasied every button as he was folding way too much.

He rasied on button to 4x. I flat with QJo.

Reraising here is terrible as he has been folding so many buttons.

Flop : AK4 check, check.

Him checking behind indicates he has showdown value and as he is a little scared he can have a reasonable but not huge hand here. If he had air he’d obviously bet the flop.

Turn brings me my gutshot and I check raise as it looks soooo fishy, he calls and calls my river push with a weak ace.

Both hands maximised my value which is hugely important when moving up. When I was playing lower limits I may have check behind with KK on hand 1 as I was scared of him having an ace even though it is pretty unlickly. Then in hand two I would have probably not thought about his holding as much and lead the turn and river and not got all the money in. He may have even folded the river if I lead twice but the c/r on the turn looks so fishy he got paranoid.

Day One

Pretty good start to the challenge. Got two sessions in, each lasting about 90 minutes. Not too much of interest happened. I will normally extend a little but this happened yesterday and for the life of me I can’t remember one single hand and don’t use PT or such.

Day Total: $3,844

Running total: $3,844

Will try and add some content in my next blog.

Later days,

Hi, my name is Rob I am 23 and from the UK. I play NLH for a living these days and can be found on several sites under several alias. I play stakes from 200nl to 1000nl.

When I first started learning poker I remember reading a blog about someone making $100k in 100 days. I don't remember his name or if he even succeeded or not but it inspired me. Now it's time for me to surpass my heroes of the past, and hopefully in the process inspire some of you guys into working your way through the limits.

I aim to make $200k in 100 days. I doubled the figure as 100k would not be on par with my goals for 2008 and it's always better to aim higher.

So a quick couple of rules for the challenge.
1) Rakeback and bonuses can be included.
2) I will only count days I play. I realise this makes the challenge a lot easier but I do not want to force myself to play hung-over or when I don't want to as I will spew. I will not take many days off though and will complete the challenge in under 130 days.

I will update this blog every few days. I want to offer some value within this blog as well so I will include some theory and things that I think will help you guys.

Later days,
Rob
