A Rush of Day Twos

That's right ladies and gentlemen, I can now say I have a "streak" of two Day 2 appearances in a row. I optimistically headed into the second day of the 5k 6m tournament with a well above average stack, but a poorly timed two barrel in a blind vs blind battle and a few unsuccessful opens along with a general lack of playable hands and a difficult table (that's right, a lot of shit into the equation) made me just bleed chips until I had only a dozen big blinds or so and got it in with two nines against ace jack and didn't win. Sometimes life just be like that. I'm glad I played the PLO tournament (and made the second day) and I think I played pretty well in this tournament as well-- making day twos and busting out early sucks quite a bit, but when you haven't had any WSOP success at all sometimes you'll take what you can get. You have to crawl before you can walk, you have to walk before you can run, and you have to run before you can fly. Think about that for a while.

The World Series of Poker is clearly run by either communists or people without any recognition of "logic." They scheduled two tournaments with some of the biggest overlapping fields (the 5k 6m and the 10k HU) on back to back days. Thus, there were probably a good dozen players still left in the 5k 6m (ike, kingsofcards, good2cu, charder, me, to name a few) when the HU rolled around that weren't able to play. Even with the 25k 6m and the Main, the 10k HU was definitely my best event and I am unhappy that I was unable to play. If I knew someone with any pull I would try to figure out how hard it is, with 6 weeks to work with, to separate the big buy-in big bet events by a few days so that you'd at least have to make a final table or something to miss one. I mean, for me, I've got a solid 5 or 6 events on my slate all summer. The fact that three of them come within 5 days of each other escapes logic, truthfully. I'm neither motivated enough to pursue changing the schedule to something that actually makes sense nor connected enough to make it happen.

It's been a little hard to look at the positive side of things during this Series but I'm doing my best. Wolfpack won his first two HU matches, and he's almost certainly the best player in the field. Hopefully he runs as good as he plays and wins it-- it'd be really cool for him after winning a 25k HU tournament online and winning the 25k NAPT highroller to add this to his belt. A little rungood probably had a pinch to do with all of the aforementioned things, but he's pretty talented and living with him has certainly made me appreciate the different angles that people take to succeed in poker.

I've only got the 25k 6m and the Main to go. I'm looking forward to them both, but I'm cautiously optimistic for the most part. It's difficult to envision success in such small sample sizes where the skill edge could take a pretty long time to be realized. I'm going to work on getting over this little cold I have before the powerful weeks ahead.
