Wow a seven month hiatus. Well I've been through a variety of occurrences in my life, with the least of which being I put poker so far on the back burner the plate is all over the floor. I expected to come back and post some pumped up post about returning to poker with guns blazing but, I can't say I feel it. The truth is, I was never much more than an amateur who made the occasional read and followed a lot of great players, and when I quit it was because I was break even over essentially 6 months. I told myself I would only come back when I felt it *calling* me, and it never has. For those of you interested in me and not some blurb about cards...

I turned 21! I went and had an interview at a casino and got a job working with the director of finance to basically get a map of how casino-corporate finance works. It was a very valuable experience and I have to say it was a telling internship, about me, large corporations, and finance itself (which is my major). I decided about half way through that before my senior year I needed to see the investments side of finance, and arranged to head up to Boston for three weeks working with a start up firm. To go from a huge behemoth of a corporation to a 9 person office doing totally different things was pretty radical. Now, having experienced both I know which suits me the most and *gasp* it is both. I have every intention now that I've seen the real world to get out there and do amazing things with a start to finish corporate path. What I mean by that is that I only will be happy if I can take a small firm, and work with a great team to build into a staple company. As such, poker will never be anything more than a hobby/conversation piece. I have to say, I felt like I was 3/4 months away from "breaking through", and seeing the railheaven with AE, knowing greg and craig from school (sort of) and seeing their success- it makes me want to be able to play, but it ultimately just doesn't fit my personality.

Too bad this post is so disjointed, but I just needed to put something here to tie it all together, and there are some cool people on the site who helped me along the way (matt/garbageman) that I thought might appreciate an update.

I'll be heading to Boston after I graduate, and I'll be working with a real estate advisors firm which is putting together its first fund. I hope to head to a great school for an MBA one day and get the tools I need to achieve my goals. I'll bet in a few years I'll find my way to the WSOP and see some of you guys, in the mean time good luck with all your endeavors. ~Matt
