I played slightly more poker than usual during August, to the neglect of my studies obv. Am paying for it now, got three exams and a presentation/assignment due in the next week or so. Just had to stay up all night to cram for one exam, but I ran good and got through it ok.

Poker wise I stuck to 6 tabling 1/2NL 6 max. Played quite well I think, but table selected better. I put a lot of emphasis on table selection, it's so important. Everyone can do it expertly, yet they don't. Easiest way to improve your winrate imo. Finished up about 10k on the month which is pleasing. Again ran 2k below allin equity, but that's standard.

Doesn't look like I'll be playing much poker this month, got these assessments at the moment like I mentioned. I will be having a few weeks off from study (mid semester break) in a couple of weeks but im going up to the Gold Coast for a week and won't be playing much up there if at all.

ps ship the leggo hoodie surely this is a september luckbox device

I'm struggling to write anything here, it seems like nothing much happened during July outside of poker. Got back from the snow and finished my mid-semester break, didn't really do anything exciting. Played some basketball, lifted some weights, watched a lot of sports, did a lot of errands and helped my fiancée with a few things. Just mainly relaxed and put in some poker hours. It's 4 weeks into second semester now and my timetable is great with classes only between Monday and Wednesday. This segregates the week nicely into study and poker and also ensures I put extra effort into attending classes as missing a day is more critical.

Poker during July was fairly standard. Failed 2/4 shot to begin the month. I decided enough was enough and banished myself from the limit indefinitely. I think so far this year I've played about 50k hands there and I'm down about 3k but down about 12k in allin equity. The opportunity cost and stress of spending this time there is notable. On the other hand the experience gained has helped me become a better player. I know I'm good enough to beat the limit but I just can't seem to pull it together. Will try again later in the year with the help of a coach.

August is going to be spent entirely on 1/2 and has gone well so far, as usual I run well on the limit. Or maybe I just don't run bad? Whatever the case hopefully it continues for the remainder of the month. Could use a good one after a disappointing June and July. Enjoy the rest of your month everyone

After reading a comment by Probability on one of thac's blog posts about sacking up and playing 2/4, I decided to do that and play primarily 2/4 during June.

The good news is I am now far more comfortable playing there. The bad news is I didn't do too well. I ran $3k below allin equity for the month on 2/4, which is totally standard for me this year. That takes the year to date total to around $12k on 2/4. It's fairly hard to move up when that happens continually.

Here's the graph and stats:

Add $1.4k rakeback to that to take it to about a $4.5k month. It was very disappointing to end the month on that downswing. I'm also edging gradually closer to finally getting off my ass and getting a coach.

In non poker news, I finished my first semester of study this year (Accounting). Just got my results and maintained my 91 average from last semester. Really didn't deserve it though, missed a lot of classes and didn't put much effort in. I guess I wasted running good on my classes rather than poker. Definitely going to need to step up next semester as I've heard there are a couple of difficult classes.

Got back from Mt Buller last weekend, was up there for a week. Unfortunately we just had the hottest June in like 50 years and there was no snow for the first 4 days. When it did snow later in the week it wasn't much. Fortunately the hotel we were staying in was excellent and there were some nice restaurants up there. It was revitalising to get out of the house away from poker and the internet for a week and spend some quality time with the fiancée.

GL during July, and I will leave you with a picture of the view from our hotel room

So May is over, and I hit my hand target of 30k hands. My attendance/studies suffered for my course though, had a test last week that I did terribly in. I have to sweat out the result until Wednesday and I could have actually failed something for the first time during this course. I'll take it as a wake up call and try to fix the balance more in study's favour rather than poker.

Poker wise obv I'm happy to post a good month, add rakeback of ~1.4k onto that and its around 9.5k. Had some sick variance on the final two days of the month after taking a 5 day break to study and do assignments. First session back I had AK < KQ aipf early in the session and also PT3 was lagging like a *****, combined those put me on monkey tilt briefly, need to read Tommy Angelo's book again! But it ended up ok, played some 2/4 to finish the month and had some swongs, that was fun.

Working out has been going well, I found this awesome chinup bar for your doorway but it doesn't need to be screwed in, you just kinda wind it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhgqVyB7lxY. Don't know how it manages it but it can support up to 100kg (220lbs). Three weeks left in the semester then I'm off to the snow for a week with the gf. GL at the tables (esp vegasers, so jealous!)

So it's halfway through the month, and my results have been good. I am on track for my target of 30k hands and 10k profit for May. It has been a struggle to play 1k hands a day though, and I doubt I will be able to maintain that to the end of the month. My studies have been neglected a bit, so I am going to have to work fairly hard for the next month or so to scrape through this semester. Have booked a trip to the snow for the week of resits, so if I fail anything I'm dead so that is some extra motivation to pass everything.

Have been playing basketball and tennis a couple of times a week, got a sick corked thigh last night from a 6'8 monster so my leg is pretty sore atm. Also just started a new lifting program. I have been concentrating too much on upper body stuff so this new program should be better and more balanced.

So here's the stats and graph, add 650 rb to that for the total. Gl at the tables.

After my worst month of the year last month, I am grateful for this. ty poker gods

Sick part is I stopped for dinner at about hand 600, when I was down $500. American Psycho was on so watched that, then came back and went on a Patrick Bateman style rampage,.

The highlight was some guy posting utg and raising, I reraise with AKo and he shoves for nearly a full buyin with A6o, I hold then he insta leaves after playing 1 hand.

Goals for this month are 30k hands and 10k profit. Played 8k hands so far and up a little over 3k.
Variance: Gotta be up for class in less than 4 hours.

hi,

I'm a 25 year old student/poker player from Melbourne, Australia. This blog will track my poker progress and results, outline my thoughts on life in general and describe my struggles to get through my course with as little effort as possible.

Poker wise I seem to perpetually be stuck at 1/2NL 6 max. There are a number of reasons for this but I won't go into them yet. Over the last 250k hands at 1/2 I have run at a little over 4bb/100 but I haven't been able to make the jump to 2/4 yet.

I'm in my second year of an Accounting course, it's a grind but I'm determined to get a degree this time around. My spare time is mainly spent watching sports (english and australian rules football), going out to see DJs on the weekend, working out and spending time with my girlfriend. Here's a picture of my cat Max:
