I think my last real blog post was a good 15 months ago. I have always struggled to blog, partly because I have somewhat of a "well why should anyone care about what I have to say" type of mentality. But then I think about it and I always enjoy reading random poker players blogs that I've never met IRL or have just played a bunch against online here and there. So I think I will start blogging again.
After all of Friday's fiasco, I have thought and reflected a bunch and wondered what I would do if this exact thing happened in Canada. 2 years ago, I would've packed up and gone somewhere, probably Australia or somewhere in the UK. It would be pretty tough and definitely my plan would be to grind a ton, make a bunch of money and probably get back into something other than poker when I returned home. Now though, I think I'd probably move on. Start a business of some sort, or get involved partially in a few businesses and return to poker on the side if things got straightened out legally down the road. Being almost 27, I think I'd tell myself it's time to grow up, give up living the dream and get into the real working world in some capacity. On the poker front, I have played strictly all PLO this year. Pretty much all the limits 2/4 PLO to a bit of 25/50 when the games looked amazing. Mostly 3/6, 5/10 and 2/4 though. If you look at my PTR, my PLO results are horrible. Well, last year I decided the same thing, I am gonna try and switch to PLO. I don't think I went at things like I should have. I basically jumped into 5/10 games and was way over my head, getting beaten down by the good regs. I also didn't study nearly as hard as I needed to, to improve. The end result was losing like 60K in 70k hands and having a loss rate of 5BB/100. This year I have gone at things with a much better approach. Less tables, a bit of game selection and playing a bit lower stakes most of the time. Also studying a lot, a couple hours most days. My results have been much better, I'm not up a ton because of dusting off some stacks at 25/50 PLO but I have a positive winrate of something like 2BB/100 and I think I'm improving everyday. This month has been very solid, I think I've had like 3 losing sessions out of 20 or something silly like that. Lifewise, things are good. I bought a condo about 6 weeks ago and take possession on the 21st of April, so in a couple days. Toronto isn't New York city or anything but real estate is damn expensive. 600K doesn't get you too far in the downtown core. Well it get's you a nice place but nothing too big. I think my place is 1200 sq feet plus about 200 sq feet of balcony space. Really looking forward to summer BBQs on the giant balcony and just a lot more living space. I will post some pics of it in another blog post. Maybe after my gf and I paint and move everything in. I am planning on heading to Madrid for the EPT Grand Final. Mostly because I want a European vacation, but the poker is a nice bonus. Hotel that were staying at looks really nice, I think it's called the Westin Palace Madrid. Plan is to play a couple side events, a 5k PLO and a 5k NL and hopefully satellite into the main event. With the condo purchase, I'm not as liquid as a used to be lol and 10K euro is a good bit of cash for me right now. Anyways, thanks for reading gents, take care
