Happy new years to all and i hope everyone has a great 2009. As always i have some goals for the new year and hopefully i will be able to accomplish most of them.
POKER
* Treat poker as a fulltime job, until i start a real fulltime job, and play/study 30 hours a week.
* After starting fulltime work play btw 6-10 hrs a week (depending on job demands) and review or study 2-3 hrs a week (also depending on the job demads).
* Avg a min of $75 hr
* Play 2-4 fulltime within the first 3-4 months of the year.
* IMPROVE FOCUS and DISCIPLINE but this is true for most areas of life
FITNESS
* Get down to ~200 lbs and stay there, while improving strength and muscle mass ( Im about 6'2 and 220 right now.
* Build up running endurance to at least 10 miles and do this 2x a month while still jogging 3x a week. Also consider running the local 1/2 marathon (on fathers day every year).
* Dont miss a week of working out all year.
* Try joga, jit jitsu or some other new activity.
LIFE
* Maintain a positive attitude and outlook on life at all times ( i can be pretty pessimistic).
* Less TV and more reading (at least 2 books a month).
* Try at least 2-3 things that i have not or would not have done previously.
* Go at least 2 places I have not been before.
* Find a job in my field that pays decent and has potential for advancment.
* Have a better idea of what direction i want my career to go.
* Get at least 1 designation that will help advance career.
* Figure out taxes asap and paydown mortgage by at least 20%.
* Minimize reckless spending and keep track of spending throught the year.
* Update this blog and review one year from now.
This is most of it i think, we will see how i do. Good luck to everyone this year.

The last week or so has been pretty terrible. The party season i wrote about in my last blog ended with one of my friends being punched in the face by random dude, 5 of my buddies getting handcuffed at one point (there was 8 of us in total) and 2 of my buddies spending the night in a drunk tank. I might write a report about this later but right now i dont feel like re-living it and since im on a 13 buyin downsing i thought i would post some hands and hopefully get some comments from others. I dont think im playing great but i dont think i have been awful either part of this has just been running bad but there has been spots where i have just played bad and thats what i care about more then anything. I posted some hands in the ssnl forum and appreciate the comments and i would really appreciate any input anyone had here.
Some hands that are questionable.
hand 1
villan is a tag and a decide to sp a set on a dry board. I dont know if its running bad or w/e but when he overbet shoved river i was almost sure i was ****ed but decided to call anyway. Raise turn? Fine and i am just being results oriented?

hands 2/3 are not huge pots but they are pretty similar in that i have a tp on a pretty dry board. I dont know if im giving the villans too much credit in these spots but it feels like i am always getting owned.
In the first hand villan is 17/13/3.5 over a decent sample but at some of the tables he doesnt have a full buyin so i dont know what to make of that. This board is super dry and i dont kow if he would raise a better Q, maybe KQ and other then that the only draw is 65 and that isnt a very strong draw.

the villan in hand 3 is 20/16/2 and the one diffrence is that we have TPTK. Am i just being way too weak here? Also if i fold the turn so often should i even be calling the flop? Is it too spewy to 3b flop here and get it in?

this is hu vs a tag. The plan is to cr turn but he bets so much that i lose all fold equity pretty much. I still decie to shove since i didnt think his range was super strong and he could have had some type of a draw also.

The exams are done and i have graduated university!! ( i guess its not official but its close enough). I still dont have a job, poker isnt going great, the condo i bought is probably going to lose a lot of value, and there massive world wide depression going on but for the next two days I DO NOT CARE. A lot of my buddies are back in town and tomorrow is the start of 'social season' here (winnipeg). Socials, for you guys unfamiliar with them, are big parties that happen at the end of the exam period. This is the perfect time since after finishing exams people are looking to get drunk and have some fun. These parties have a business casual dress code and the girls look amazing (the alcohol makes them look even better). The party tomorrow will probably have 1200-1500 hundred people and the one on friday will have 2500!!
Life has been somewhat ****ty the last few weeks and i have a long blog that i will post talking about all that stuff but for the next few days i just want to get drunk with my boys and hit on some girls.
Enjoy the holidays guys

Its been a while since my last entry but life has been pretty busy as of late. I moved into my new place at the end of September and i feel like that i have finally settled in. This is also my last semester at school, and even though i have only two classes, its been pretty busy. I have never put so littlle effort in my classes and my grades in these two classes will be lower then i have had in a long time, but i will be finished in one month and hopefully will not have to put up with this anymore.
I am also working on my resume and will be applying for some jobs. I dont really know how long it will take to get a job and what kind of a job a recent finance grad can get but im hoping things will workout for the best. I dont want to start working until at least march anyway, since i think i will travel a little after graduation, but it would be nice to have a job secured. Im also thinking about writing the CFP (financial planner) and part 1 of the CFA( financial analyst) exams this summer since it would open up more doors for me but we will have to see how things go.
In truth i will not be able to find a job that pays me better then poker does but i still think that i want to start on the career path since i dont know how long i want to be playing poker. It is nice to have poker because it gives me a source of income while looking for a job but i think that in a way poker has hurt me because it gave me a sense of security and i never really worked as hard in school as i should have and also i didnt do a lot of things to build up my resume and have no relevant experience.
Poker has been going ok but i havent played as much as i should have. I am looking to have a good couple of months and finish the year strong and with school getting close to end i should have more time to play.
I think thats all for now,

So the last month or so has been pretty busy and as you can tell by the title i have bought a condo. I wrote in earlier post that my intention was to move towards the end of the summer and after looking into it a bit and talking a bit with my parents i decided that buying would be better then renting. I ould be able to put down a significant downpayment meaning that i would not need mortgage insurance (something you need in Canada if your downpayment is less then 20%) and mortgage rates are pretty low right now so i figure if im ready to pay $700 a month in rent i might as well pay a little more and have something to show for it. Im also graduating in december and should be able to find a decent job and i would have no problem making payments from savings until then. Im also hoping that ill be able to make some more money playing poker, but after a terrible aug. im starting to have doubts.
The place i bought is 915 sq ft, 2 bedroom i bath condo in a decent building, nice area thats still pretty close to my parents/university. The place is also pretty close to some of the college bars so, even though im not much of a bar person, im sure ill be getting lots of late nigh visits from drunk friends. That should be some good stories.
One thing im starting to realize is how many things im going to have to buy and how much thats going to cost. My parents said they will buy me a couch/table as a gift but im still going to have to get a TV (42 inch min), a computer, a desk, a bed(current one sucks) and a bunch of other **** that im going to get my mom to get for me (ill pay though) like dishes/towels/microwave etc.. Basically im going to be in the poor house after all of this is done.
Poker wise aug was terrible!! Since i started looking/buying this place i have played unfocused and rarely reviewed my play/watched videos. I have also been having problems with pt/hud and that always sends me on ****ing life tilt. It would have been nice to have a good month with all of the new expenses coming up but what can you do (probably play more/better but..)? Today was going to be the first day of my great sep and of course this happened.
I am going to try to stay positive and log a ton of hands/hrs because of all the money i spent recently. I am still pretty comftrable and far from broke but mentally i went from having x to like 1/5x and it motivates me to get back to where i was at and pay down my mortgage etc..
This month is probably going to be pretty busy so i hope i can stay on track and make a smooth transition to my new place. I get the keys on the 15th so hopefully by then i have a lot of stuff purchased and i can move in soon afterwards.
all the best,
enes

After having a terrible day at 1/2 earlier last week, I took a few days off because i had an exam on firday and i wanted to get away from poker in hopes of coming back refreshed and changing my luck. It didnt work. Over the last 2 days at 1/2 and a little 2/4 im -2300+ in allin equity and am down about 1k for the month of aug. I am actually doing better at 2/4 then 1/2 this month but have decided to grind (and i mean seriously grind for like 25k+ hands this week) for a week in hope of getting unstuck and improving my confidence. Its really discouraging to be struggling espcially when i was hoping to have a strong month before moving out in order to pay for all of the purchases...
Anyway here are some of the hands that I am not sure/biggest from yesterday.
The pf 3b is 23/12 and i really dont think he would be isolating too light here. I dont really like my play pf but i wasnt sure that 4b was best. I really think that b/f flop might have been ok, i really hate my line. I just felt that at best i was even with another AK, because i dont think he would do this AQ...

hand 3-villan is 18/16/3.5 and earlier in this session squeezed AQ and called my shove. Should i be 4b pf here? Given that i didnt im not folding the flop but raising seems like too much of a spew. Is calling and fodling to turn bet better?

The last couple of days have been up and down. I looked at my balance today an i decided that its going to be pretty hard to play without seeing it because its on the main screen. Im up a little for the month but i still feel like im spewing or making too many mistakes. Today i made a few plays that i generally would not make and was hoping to get input from others.
Hand 1- villan is guessthatsit a 23/19 regular on party. I think pf is a bit questionable given that both blinds are tags but i dont think its terrible. The flop is fine i think. I was planning on raising non club turns but he bet super fast and for some reason i just felt calling was better (and i still think calling was better). The river was an interesting card because it can ruin a lot of his hands. The size of his bet made me sure that he didnt have the nut flush so i shoved...He tanked and called which in this case was right but i really dont think that calling against me here would be +g bucks play since im like almost never maikng this play.

Hand 2- villan is 29/21 or something like that and i just couldnt really figure out what he could have that he would play like this. I hate being cr on flops like this with a mid pair because i never really know what to do. I decided to call because it was a min raise and i was in position and he could easily have a fd here. His turn bet was kind of weak and i decide to call because i felt that there was a good chance i had the best hand. After he bets the river for the same amount he bets turn i figured he was trying to see a cheap sd w a T and raise. Is this spewy?

hand 3 is against another reg who is tag but isnt by any means one of the better players at this level. He runs about 21/15 and has a high aggression factor. Ihave seen him multi barrel before and peeled the flop with intention of betting flop if he checks or raising any turn bet he makes since i think he will double barrel here a lot. The river card was pretty good as it completes fd that are a pretty big part of my range..spew?

hand 6- KK i play somewhat bad i think. It didnt really matter for this hand because the result would have been the same but i feel like he isnt bluffing here like ever on the turn and im not folding so i should just raise it there and get it in. The villan was 20/14 and does some wierd stuff like this.

My head is starting to hurt from poker and i think ill take the rest of the night off and watch a movie or something. I also have an exam on friday so after tomorrow i wont be playin a lot for a couple of days. I plan on playing a lot after my exam is over and through december since i will only have 2 classes and they should not be too difficult.
I feel like my game is getting better but there is still a lot of work that i need to do. I really want to focus on the spots that i seem to be constantly misplaying and im watching a lot of videos and trying review a lot of hands in order to get better....

Another day full of swings and aggro play. After reading Probabilties blog i decided that i am going to try to play for a while w/o looking at how much im winning/losing and really focus on just making the right plays and improving. After having an early afternoon session where i dropped a couple of buyins and played bad i tried this last night and i think it worked ok, so we will see how long i can keep it up. It will kind of har since party has your balance directly on the main screen but ill try my best to avoid it.
I have also decided that, for a couple of days at least, im going to 4 table. This should help me get better reads and also focus more and make better decisions. I want to prove to myself that im a winner at 2/4 and ones i have established that and my confidence is up i will probably go back to 6 tabling.
Anyway here are some hands from yesterday, as always input is appreciated.
hand 1- villan is huge donk and i was probably gonna call a reasonable river bet but after he overbet i thought he was just trying to get value from missed turn c/r. Maybe b/f turn here would have been better but im paranoid when i get min c/r

Hand 2- The reason im posting this is because i made a mistake pf, i probably should have made the "squeeze" a little bigger but the cc in the middle was a fish and i wanted him to call. I think the rest of the hand is standard. The turn bet was small because i didnt want to overbet and give him a chance to fold QQ or something. The main villan was a tag...

hand 3- this hand proves how much i suck and how much better i need to get. The villan is like 17/13 but he has played back at me a decent amount on 2 tables where he has pos on me. I think i have to shove folp and hope for the best but since i didnt i need to fold turn seeing how he is bluffing never here and that card sucks.

hand 4- another bad hand by me. The villan is 20/16/2 over a decent sample. I think that flop peel is ok but im not sure, turn call is standard given flop peel but i think i really need to fold this river and at the table i timed out to like 1 sec before calling. I dont think this guy is good enough to vb JJ or something like that here which makes his range sets/bluffs and maybe AQ. I dont really know what bluffs he has, so..

yesterday was the first day of the new month and of course it had to start with me running like ****. I ended up recovering and actually being up for the day but there were a few hands that i tilted and also some that i misplayed. The games were crazy aggressive yesterday and it seemed like every pot was being 3b pf. There were a couple of times where i felt like i was being run over and that made tilt more then running bad..here are some hands, i would appreciate any comments
here is me running bad
hand 1- i played one 3/6 table for a while because there was a big fish there and obv ended up losing the biggest pot of the day. I think the flop call is ok..

hand 4- This is questionable on my part. I didnt think that this was one of those slightly ahead/ way behind scenarios because the villan here (unknow at this time early in the session) could c/r this flop with a pretty wide range and with me having a gs, bkd fd and likely the best hand i decided that 3b getting the money in wasnt bad.

July was a pretty ****ty month. I did fine at 1/2 but did terrible at 2/4. Over like 24k hands at 2/4 (mostly in the middle of the graph) i lost just about 4 buyins. I dont think that i ran great at 2/4 but i obviously didnt play well either. Here is the overall graph (finally figured it out!!!)
[IMG] [/IMG]
This summer has not been as rewarding financially as i was hoping and i have one month to turn it around. Instead of just listing all these things i plan on doing im just going to keep it simple and say that i want to have one month of solid poker where i can get all parts of my game together. My class will be over on Aug 9 and from there on i will have lots of time to play/review and post. If my next graph isnt much better i will be extremely disappointed.
I also have some life goals i want to accomplish this month also like finding an apartment, losing some weight and reading a few books.
I will give 2/4 another shot starting tomorrow and hopefully this times it goes better then this month. Ill keep you guys posted.
