I'm moving my blog from bluefire to leggo because the BFP blog format tilts the hell out of me. Also craig said it would be a good idea and he almost won the main event so it must be good.
I haven't blogged very much in a few months mostly because I wasn't sure what was going to happen with my relationship with bluefire and the blog software drove me nuts so I just avoided it. Basically my computer has an audio card that simply won't work with camtasia so I couldn't make videos. It became a big hassle and frankly the effort and information revealed by the videos wasn't worth it, you basically get paid peanuts to make vids, simply playing poker makes way more sense.
I plan on starting to post more regularly, I don't get to talk enough with friends and family so this will be a good way for us to communicate.
Here's a quick synopses of this year;
I moved to Newport Beach, California into an apartment with Tommy (tcorbin16/I Win Flips). My plan was just to grind and get better, so it was pretty mundane. The place I'm living is a mistake, it's far from anything we'd like to be around, its sort of on the outskirt of Newport Beach near Irvine, away form the beach and Peninsula. I wasn't actually here so I couldn't put everything together, so the lesson I learned was if you plan to live somewhere definitely try and know what you are doing and make a trip out there prior to check everything out.
This year I've played a good amount of poker but frankly I could have been playing alot more with all the free time I have, I've been pretty lazy so far this year. I've played higher stakes so partly I haven't been able to play because I haven't been in playing condition (I'll play lower stakes/less often while on a downswing, which happens more often and more dramatically at higher stakes). I have however put in enough time and effort to improve dramatically, the thing I've discovered about poker is so long as you can keep it together and recover whatever happens can only make you stronger in the long haul.
I've taken three trips since I've been here,
The first trip was a week in Lake Tahoe with Mike (gordo16), Derek (Ap0colypse), John (umd tennis), Nick (DanielDayLewis), Evan (Macdaddy34). I tried to snowboard but failed pretty badly. I gave it up after the first day and traded the board in for some ski's and had a blast, in fact I'm considering moving there for the season to grind snowboarding.
The second trip was a visit home (Philadelphia) for a weekend. It was my grandfathers birthday, there was a family dinner at my parents house. I was also fortunate to be in town the weekend of The Killers concert (awesome live) and the Drexel Spring Fling. Drexel was the school I left to play poker and they just happened to be hosting a concert that weekend featuring Lupe Fiasco and Girl Talk. For those of you who don't know Girl Talk (Greg Gillis) is a mashup artist and probably my favorite artist for the last year. Needless to say I was ecstatic when I heard the news, the concert was the most insane party then afterwards I went back to umd/john's house for his kegger (18 kegs obv) dubbed "rando de mayo". It was amazing as always and after the keg's were done we went across the street to thomas's, a bar that I later discovered was partially owned by my former attendence lady, Mrs. Querolli, who is the best ever. <3
The last trip and most recent was to vegas. I spend almost two months there, made a few new friends and a ton of stories the cliff notes are; I went 0-4 in events (5k plo, 5k shootout, 2500 mixed holdem, 1500 NL holdem), met ADZ who is one of the more ridiculous people I've ever met through poker, held down two different flu/colds that kind of ruined the trip and lived with this years 56th? place main even finisher. I drove there and back which to be honest isn't that bad, maybe a 3:30 drive if you speed from Newport to LV.
Moving forward the plan is to go to Europe for EPT Barcelona, WSOPE and EPT London. That wraps up early October, sometime later in the month the tentative plan is to move to Lake Tahoe or Las Vegas. Depending upon who is in/out for tahoe will basically determine what I do, I'm really excited to live there all season and get really sick at snowboarding.
Last thing I'm interested in is finding active investments for my money. I'm not really too interested in securities, I'd rather be more hands on and be involved in some businesses somehow, especially considering how much free time I have on my hands. If anyone has information, ideas or advices for aggressive? (opposite of passive) investments let me know.
Sry for all the words this definitely isn't the normal format for my blog posts, I'll try and keep them short, entertaining and including many pictures. Also I know how bad my writing is... sry ?
Oh last thing, please don't affiliate this blog, any of its posts, ideas or opinions with NVG in any way ever, por favor.
