In this second entry about my country I'm gonna post here some info about some "guys" that influenced history... Maybe all of you ignorants bashing my country, in front with Vince's boyfriend, Jeff, will understand some things and stop being ignorants

1. Traian Vuia (Romanian pronunciation: [traˈjan ˈvuja]; August 17, 1872 - September 3, 1950) was a Romanian inventor and aviation pioneer who designed, built and flew an early aircraft. His first flight traveled about 12 m (40 feet) at Montesson, France on March 18, 1906. This was the first well-documented unassisted takeoff and landing on a level surface by an engine-driven monoplane with a completely wheeled undercarriage.
A French citizen since 1918, Vuia was associated with the French Resistance during World War II. He returned to Romania in 1950.

Education and early career

After graduating from high-school in Lugoj, Banat in 1892, at that time part of Hungary within Austro-Hungarian empire, today in Romania, he enrolled in the School of Mechanics at the Polytechnic University of Budapest where he received his engineering diploma. He then joined the Faculty of Law in Budapest - Hungary, where he earned a Ph.D. in law in May 1901 with the thesis "Military and Industry, State and Contract regime".[4]
He returned to Lugoj, where he studied the problem of human flight and designed his first flying machine, which he called the "airplane-car". He attempted to build the machine, but due to financial constraints decided to go to Paris in July 1902, hoping to find someone interested in financing his project, possibly balloon enthusiasts. He met with considerable skepticism from people who believed that a heavier-than-air machine could not fly. He then visited Victor Tatin, a well-known theoretician and experimenter who had built an aircraft model which flew in 1879.
Tatin was interested in the project, but doubted that Vuia had a suitable engine or that his aircraft would be stable. Vuia then presented his plan to the Académie des Sciences in Paris on February 16, 1903, but was rejected with the comment:
The problem of flight with a machine which weighs more than air can not be solved and it is only a dream.[5]
Undeterred, Vuia applied for a patent which was granted on August 17, 1903 and published on October 16, 1903. He began to build his first flying machine in the winter of 1902–1903. Overcoming more financial difficulties, he also started construction of an engine of his own design in autumn 1904 and received a patent for it that year in the United Kingdom.

Flying experiments

By December 1905 Vuia finished construction of his first aircraft, the "Traian Vuia, 1" a high-wing monoplane powered by a carbonic acid gas engine.[6] The liquid carbon dioxide was vaporized in a serpollet boiler, this added heating of the working fluid gave the engine a duration of about three minutes[clarification needed]. He chose a site in Montesson, near Paris for testing. At first he used the machine only as a car, without the wings mounted, so he could gather experience driving it. On March 18, 1906 he made his first flight attempt. After accelerating about 50 meters, the plane left the soil and flew about one meter high for about 12 meters distance, then landed.[2] The British aviation historian Charles Harvard Gibbs-Smith described it as "the first man-carrying monoplane of basically modern configuration", and "unsuccessful" [7]
Romanian enthusiasts emphasize that Vuia's machine was able to take off from a flat surface by on-board means without outside assistance, such as an incline, rails, or catapult. Debate continues over the precise definition of "first" airplane.[8].
After his March 18 takeoff, Vuia made several more short flights in 1906 and 1907.[5] In August 1906 he built a modified version of his flying machine, the "Vuia I bis."
In 1907, his "Vuia II" airplane, with an Antoinette 25 hp (19 kW) internal combustion engine, was exhibited at the first Aeronautical Salon in Paris.
Aviation pioneer Alberto Santos Dumont, who made famous short flights in Paris in October and November 1906, recognized Vuia as a "forerunner" of his efforts, as described by Charles Dollfus, the curator of an aeronautical museum in Paris.

Documentation

Vuia said he made his first flight on March 18, 1906 in the presence of his mechanic and two close personal friends. Accounts of this flight published at the time, and of his later flight of September 1906, are based on letters he personally wrote to L’Aérophile, the official journal of the Aéro Club of France.[9] Another journal of the period, Flight magazine, credited him with a flight of five meters on October 8, 1906, as the earliest entry in a list of his flights shown in a table of "the performances which have been made" by a number of aviation pioneers.

Later career

Between 1918 and 1921 Vuia built two experimental helicopters on the Juvissy and Issy-les-Moulineaux aerodromes, contributing to the development of vertical take-off.
Another invention by Vuia was a steam generator with internal combustion that could generate very high pressure of more than 100 atm (10 MPa) that is still used today in thermal power stations.
On May 27, 1946 Vuia was named an Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy.
He is buried at the Bellu cemetery in Bucharest, Romania.
Timişoara International Airport Traian Vuia (TSR), Romania's second largest airport, carries his name.

2. Aurel Vlaicu (Romanian pronunciation: [a.uˈrel ˈvlajku] ( listen); November 19, 1882 – September 13, 1913) was a Romanian engineer, inventor, airplane constructor and early pilot.

Biography

Aurel Vlaicu was born in Binţinţi (now renamed Aurel Vlaicu), Geoagiu, Transylvania. He attended Calvinist High School in Orăştie (renamed "Liceul Aurel Vlaicu" in his honour in 1919) and took his Baccalaureate in Sibiu in 1902. He furthered his studies at Technical University of Budapest and Technische Hochschule München in Germany, earning his engineer's diploma in 1907.
After working at Opel car factory in Rüsselsheim, he returned to Binţinţi and built a glider he flew in the summer of 1909. Later that year, he moved to Bucharest, in the Kingdom of Romania, where he began the construction of Vlaicu Nr. I airplane; it flew for the first time on June 17, 1910.
With his Vlaicu Nr. II model, built in 1911, Aurel Vlaicu won several prizes summing 7,500 Austro-Hungarian krone (for precise landing, projectile throwing and tight flying around a pole) in 1912 at Aspern Air Show near Vienna, where he competed against 42 other aviators of the day, including Roland Garros.
Aurel Vlaicu died in 1913 near Câmpina while attempting to cross in flight the Carpathian Mountains in his aged Vlaicu II airplane. He is buried at the Bellu cemetery, in Bucharest.

Bran Castle (Romanian: Castelul Bran; German: Törzburg; Hungarian: Törcsvár), situated near Bran and in the immediate vicinity of Braşov, is a national monument and landmark in Romania. The fortress is situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on DN73. Commonly known as "Dracula's Castle" (although it is one among several locations linked to the Dracula legend, including Poenari Castle and Hunyad Castle), it is marketed as the home of the titular character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. There is, however, no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad III, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula.
The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie. Tourists can see the interior individually or by a guided tour. At the bottom of the hill is a small open air museum park exhibiting traditional Romanian peasant structures (cottages, barns, etc.) from across the country.

History

In 1212, Teutonic Knights built the wooden castle of Dietrichstein as a fortified position in the Burzenland at the entrance to a mountain valley through which traders had travelled for more than a millennium, but in 1242 it was destroyed by the Mongols. The first documented mentioning of Bran Castle is the act issued by Louis I of Hungary on November 19, 1377, giving the Saxons of Kronstadt (Braşov) the privilege to build the stone citadel on their own expense and labor force; the settlement of Bran began to develop nearby. In 1438-1442, the castle was used in defense against the Ottoman Empire, and later became a customs post on the mountain pass between Transylvania and Wallachia. It is believed the castle was briefly held by Mircea the Elder of Wallachia during whose period the customs point was established. The Wallachian ruler Vlad Ţepeş (Vlad the Impaler) 1448-1476 does not seem to have had a significant role in the history of the fortress, although he passed several times through the Bran Gorge. Bran Castle belonged to the Magyar Kings but due to King Wladyslaw II’s[who?] failure to repay loans, the city of Brasov gained possession of the fortress in 1533. Bran played a militarily strategic role up to the mid-18th century.[1]
In 1920, the castle became a royal residence within the Kingdom of Romania. It became the favorite home and retreat of Queen Marie. The castle was inherited by her daughter Princess Ileana and was later seized by the communist regime with the expulsion of the royal family in 1948.
In 2005, the Romanian government passed a special law allowing restitution claims on properties illegally expropriated, such as Bran, and thus a year later the castle was awarded ownership to Dominic von Habsburg, the son and heir of Princess Ileana.[2][3]
In September 2007, an investigation committee of the Romanian Parliament stated that the retrocession of the castle to Archduke Dominic was illegal, as it broke the Romanian law on property and succession. [4] However, in October 2007 the Constitutional Court of Romania rejected the parliament's petition on the matter. In addition, an investigation commission of the Romanian government issued a decision in December 2007 reaffirming the validity and legality of the restitution procedures used and confirming that the restitution was made in full compliance with the law.[5][6]
On May 18, 2009, the Bran Castle administration was transferred from the government to the administration of Archduke Dominic and his sisters Maria-Magdalena Holzhausen and Elisabet Sandhofer. On June 1st, the Habsburgs opened the refurbished castle to the public as the first private museum of the country and disclosed with Bran Village a joint strategic concept to maintain their domination in the Romanian tourist circuit and to safeguard the economic base in the region.

I see MMA is becoming more and more popular among fighting fans around the world.

A couple of days ago I watched the "huge" boxing match between Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye and got bored to death... I then heard they were fighting each for 15 milions... c'mon... MMA fighters kick their faces and these two athletes are exchanging harmless jabs for 36 minutes and they get paid so much??

And then thought about Fedor, the biggest fighter ever! The one who got slammed in the head and got up and secured a kimura... the one who slayed the giant Silva in 36 seconds... who beat Schilt or Zuluzinho when he wieghs only 220lbs and is 6 ft.. the one who had a 26 win streak... the last emperor! I thought he deserves more than 300k/fight.. or at least deserved.. He's now fighting Dan Henderson in Strikeforce on July 30th. This will be a HUGE fight. This will be an entertaining fight! MMA is the fighting sports of the future but why aren't they paid as much as Klitschko or Pacquiao? Why is this dude, Dana White, being so stingy?

Anyways, this is Fedor vs Hendo month so I will update this blog daily with Fedors fights. Here is his debut:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDy91KCxAH0

Enjoy it!

P.S: props to Tito Ortiz for his first victory in the octagon since defeating shamcock and props to Congo for his wonderful fight with Pat Barry (a must see fight)

And also why are panda bears giving MMA predictions?

Yeah, this is a new contest.

It goes like this: I'm gonna post a song here and the one who read will rate it from 7 to 10 (why 7 to 10? well simple, these songs are good shit and all of them deserve more than 7).

Another thing: If you're looking here for some justin bieber or some other gay shit like this, please don't read, go somewhere else!!. This blog series is kinda old school and the beats you'll hear here are probably beyond the understanding of the 16 y.o kids crazy for justin bieber or timberlake or whatever.

Let's start:

After a long wait I finally finished watching The Wire, probably the best series I ever watched. I liked the most the fact it seemed real (at least the first 4 seasons). At the beginnig I thought it was a boring show but after watching a couple of episodes I started enjoying it more and more, becoming an addict. It was nice watching the evolution of the characters, like the decay of Avon Barksdale, the evolution of Marlo, Daniels jumping from liutenant to deputy commissioner, Carver from detective to liutenant, Boodie rise from D'Angelo boy to having his own corner, Stringer Bell going up and down. It was nice seeing characters like Rawls or Valchek hanging in there kissing bosses' asses.. Probably the most fictional character was McNulty, screwing every nice chick in the show, driving drunk, faking serial killers, etc.. Obv, the biggest disappointment was the way Omar died, c'mon... but probably he was to gay to be so cool... what's the irony, being shot from behind..

Anyways, I am not the best guy for making a review for the show. I liked it and I advise everybody to watch it if he didn't already. But after watching this show you start asking yourself questions like:

who is more fat??

prop joe

or

sg. landsman

I once thought they are one and the same guy. Did you ever seen them in the same scene?

Unfortunatelly the 5th season went nuts with McNulty inventing a serial killer and Marlo getting away, but the picture of Chris and Wee-Bey in the end was so real... they both got a life sentence and their bosses got out (Marlo immediately, Avon after 2 years before being sold by his "brother").

With all that said if you ain't watched go watch it!
