Downswinging

Oh dear, what a month. The downswing started in typical fashion, with an extreme run of coolers and bad beats. I've always had a belief (and argued vigorously as such in one of my video threads) that my positive red line/ break even blue line style shields me from having insane dowswings. Well, let me admit now that having even a neutral blue line depends on winning the occasional hand at showdown.

Then followed a series of adjustments; overadjustments, re-adjustments, extreme reactionary re-overadjustments etc etc etc. All the while deviating from my for-so-long winning style and losing all faith and confidence. 'OMG OMG they all watched my videos what to do what to do' whirred through my head 20 times a session.

Being a new leggo guy hasn't helped.... I had to block chat after the 11th 'lol, put that in a video dude' every time I get stacked. I get messages like this: written on my PTR wall. From peak, my DS at rock bottom totalled $26k, of mostly 2-4 and around $8k 5-10.

Going forward, I'm spending a month under my anonymous UB name rebuilding my BR and confidence. Playing with less pressure, I'm doing pretty good in the last week or so. I can feel a ~$30k month coming on for December, at which point I'm heading back to FTP to smash some egos. Which brings me nicely onto:

Egos

I've never considered myself to have an ego. Maybe it's my literal definition of ego, which carries with it negative connotations of arrogance and douchebag-ness along with the more desireable trait of extreme self confidence. The kind of egos I hate are those in the 2p2 FTP thread, where no opportunity is ever missed by some 5-10 nomark to try and put someone in their place with a 'OMG U are terrible'. Well, traditionally, people would say that to want to punk these kind of egos would take a huge ego in itself. I see myself more of an anti-ego warrior, whose main driving force right now in poker is to spend a short time rebuilding before returning to annihilate some of these guys and post numerous HU brag graphs.

There, I said it.

Speaking of which:

HU

I credit part of my recent recovery to playing HU, which by extension means that I'm giving credit to Greg for his blog piece talking about specialising too much, and backtracking somewhat on my arguments to Clayton about it being important to specialise in poker. I see now the benefits of mixing in other forms of poker....

So anyway, I took the advice of some of the Leggo guys to go try HU for a bit. It turns out my 6max habit of 3betting ~60% sb VS btn, and my 6max habit of flatting ~60% in position means that I'm already not too bad at it. I wouldn't dream of making a video until I'm say halfway towards making 7 figures at it, but I will say it's got me thinking about poker a ton more, which has impacted my 6max game really positively. I've been playing 3 completely unique (but all hyper aggro) styles, and switching between them suddenly in like 5 or 10 minute periods. This has been really effective. Watch this space for a brag graph in a few months, and then some HU vids...

Videos

I should have a 25nl 2-parter coming out, but after recording the sound and uploading it I then re-listened to my audio and realised how it sucked. It wasn't that the action sucked, just that I did the audio after a $5k losing day and my bad mood really showed through. As such, I told Matt not to release it and I'm going to re-record the audio today or tommorow sometime (feeling chirpy enough to write a blog post so something must be going right). I know how discerning some of you fee-payers are, and I didn't want to get off on the wrong foot with the micro community.... if any of you guys have any suggestions for anything to talk about in the vids then do let me know.

Food

I couldn't think of a way to link to food. Any section I write on food will be insanley boring, as I literally eat the same thing every day. This being a tomato-garlic-chilli-pasta spice concoction with Wensleydale cheese. Anyway, I get really bored reading people's blogs when they move onto food. It's like an insta-switch off. I just spent a minute of my life, that I'll never be getting back, reading about Brian Townsend's turkey, that's going inside a duck, and then inside of another turkey... or something. He even gave it a stupid name, like a Durkey or something. Afterwards I felt furious, but also like I was missing out by not discussing the topic.

As such, I thought I'd tell you guys about what I made my dog today. Now, he doesn't eat dog food, never has. It has to be cooked human food. He's so pretentious, he won't even eat the same meal day in day out, he needs variety or he just pulls a face and gets back in bed.

Today I pulled out all the stops. First, I fried some eggs into a scrambled egg type substance. Then, I got some beef mince and cooked it within the fried egg. Then I got some rolls of chicken ham, and folded the meat within them to produce mini beef-egg-chicken wraps. Finally, I garnished it with a leaf.

Can't wait for the 25NL vid!! Btw are you going to be playing your usual style and explaining how it can work at the micros? Or are you going to stick to the typical ABC type play and show how to beat the micros?

P.s. Brian Townsend's turkey thing is actually called a Turducken lol

Bounce back in style like Hull City always do, and show everybody that your not a luckbox.
About the 25nl vid... meh... you shouldn't do micro videos, you should only do videos at stakes that you know/you beat/you have recent experience... I mean 1/2 2/4 or even higher. There's nothing I can learn from you from a 25nl vid, a50nl vid or a100nl vid... but there's so much to learn from you at 1/2 and 2/4, this is what I think, it's kind of a positive critique.

Lol, I love the lack of knowledge of the turducken. Blame John Madden for its introduction into our culture. But glglgl man, I was very surprised to see someone with such a genuinely unique style give away the keys to his engine so early in his career. But you'll adjust and this hardship will only improve your game in the long run.

That dog eats better than you, albeit just as fussily it seems. I just spied some photos of the boutique on facefook. It looks fantastic. Best of luck to the both of you.

DX: Yeah I play pretty much the same in terms of preflop hand ranges. I think it's a real myth that you can't play a wide range of hands at that level 'because you need people to fold'. Firstly, people do fold and often. Mixed in with the fish there's tons of bad regs trying to play properly. Secondly, you don't really need that much FE as the implied odds go up a tons. Ie, you'll make either a lot playing 45s or lose a little.

Hidden: it's either cook gourmet meals, or suffer doggy death.

Ultras: It's still really random that you're like Romanian and support Hull, but yeh. I'm doing a 25nl vid because (I would guess) most of the membership play these stakes, so just to cater for all etc.

Baba: no, although it did get a sniff, which is more than some meals I cook get.

JamesMa: it's girls clothing only I'm afraid. Although, some of the 'metros' I saw at the Leggo party shouldn't rule anything out.

Chris: ta, I'll post some more pics soon. First day yesterday sales of > £400 !(which is awesome for first day, breakeven figure of £90 ==== profit)

Am looking forward to 25nl video/ and how you will apply your style to a fish that folds 20% to cbets. Regardless, I think if you are making a micro video or two, I think it would be wise to instruct, the basic principals of learning how to play lag. Maybe helping a future lag player, avoid some of the early mistakes you may have made while learning your style.
