My rededication to the gameAfter a long history of being competitive and playing poker I have decided to rededicate myself to NLHE.
Well the recent past has seen a significant decline in my online play due to a surge live play. Im currently hitting live games 3-4 times a week. The biggest reason for this is that I'm getting very burned out of the dam variance online. In October i decimated 50nl for a very respectable win rate, but when moving up to 100 NL, i just got kicked square in the nuts by variance.
![]() I mean ya its gonna happen, 10 BI swings are supposed to be common, but why do they always happen when we move up? Overall online poker seems to have me mentally exhausted. By no means will I quit playing online, I just think its time for a break from it. Live play is where I started at many years ago, and without a doubt I am a far better live player then I am online. This is no doubt directly related to the fact the the other 9 players at the table with me typically suck. I am also able to make some pretty big folds live, A skill which evades me online. As an example I ran KK into AA live the other night. I found it quite easy to fold, loosing only 17BB's in the hand, this hand typically cost me a stack online. The next day I had QQ on a flop of T62 (2 spades) in a 4 way pot. I lost 20BB's after this shit hit the fan on the flop. Quite an easy lay down there. But for some reason online, my fold button disappears on me. I station off when value ranges become to narrow, and im just not sure why this happens to me. The other big difference is my losses. When I do loose live, its significantly smaller then online. Online 3-4 BI losses are somewhat typical on a bad day. Playing live if you loose more then 2 BI's during a session, you probably shouldnt be there in the first place. My biggest loosing day over the past 20 trips has been 1.5 BIs Basically the shit is hitting the fan in real life. I at the point where I am bleeding my savings, which is forcing me to make some money. Either by getting a job, or grinding some form of poker which will create an income. Live play is currently vastly outperforming online for me. So for now live play is where its at. My current win rate live is well over $30 on hour, this would be higher if the 2/ 5 game would run more often. Honestly I'm getting to the point where i want to take the extra time and drive to Hammond and play in the 5/10 game soon. The only bad part about playing live is the time, I really wish Online was going better for me because I can see myself making 2x's the money in half the time. In the long run I'm not sure how long I can take the live grind. I takes me 90 mins to drive both ways to the close casino. Im usually there from 3 to 7 hours depending on the games. Its like a real job with the hours put in. I'm not home very much and since I'm one of the few people in the world that truly enjoys spending time with my wife, it kinda sucks to be gone this much. Well thats about it for now, its Friday and Im going to head out to the casino. Peace P.S. I had my 2nd biggest winning day live last week, at least for 1/2. Great table with a couple maniacs and I had a session profit of $671 in 5 hours. My biggest day ever at 1/2 was 4 years ago where i scored a profit of $1100 for a 6 hour session.
