It's been quite some time since I've been around the Leggo community. A lot of reasons I guess, both being busy in my personal life and going through some poker struggles. The last few months of '09 really weren't that great - I did however maintain my streak of never having a losing month so not too much to complain about. Poker does definitely wear on you when you're basically breaking even.
On the bright side it does make you re-examine yourself and your game a lot. In that regards I did a lot of hand history review and just overall thinking about strategies and that should benefit me in the coming months. For now I'm gonna relegate myself to grinding 3/6 and put aside visions of nosebleeds in favor of some more steady fairly stress-free income. Oftentimes I would find myself playing 5/10 just for the sake of saying I was playing 5/10 even though some tables were definitely tough enough that I would have been better off hourly-rate wise playing a better 3/6 table. I guess it might've been something of a pride thing - just needing to prove that I could beat 5/10 and be on of the better regs at the limit. But after struggling a bit I realized that I'm in poker solely because of the money I can make and in reality my ego or what other players think of my game doesn't and shouldn't matter to me. I don't know how much longer poker will be around or how long the games will continue to be so profitable (sure they're tougher than pre-UIGEA legislation but there still aren't too many other jobs where you can fairly easily make 6 figures if you just put the time in) so I want to capitalize on it while I have the chance and just make as much as possible. Sure, going through and facing tougher players at 5/10 forced me to analyze my game and become a better player, but in reality there's no reason why I can't still do the same while beating 3/6. There are still several good regs to compete against, and theres nothing stopping me from still going through and reviewing hands after a session and contemplating alternate lines or thinking about what I would have done if my opponent had played differently. I guess what I'm trying to say is playing in games that are tough for you does force you to get better if you want to survive, but you really should be trying to get better in the games you beat as well by constantly thinking about not only the hands you play but different variations as well. Things like what kind of range you're triple barreling in a situation and whether it would be more profitable to add more/less bluffs to it etc. I just finished a video today that is sort of a concept-based hand history review where I go over several different squeeze situations and break down the math behind them. Doing little reviews like that every now and then are very helpful in discovering leaks in your game and what you can be doing better. I think the video turned out pretty well and I wanna look it over one more time before I upload it, but it hopefully will be out soon. Anyway, so yeah I"ve just been busy just being a little hermit-like and grinding out hands. When things aren't going as well as I'd like I guess I tend to ignore some stuff like Leggo and just focus on myself, which is good in that I get more volume in but am kind of shut off from the poker community. But there is a reason I've been so focused, and this is it: http://www.tollbrothers.com/homesear...&plan_id=50520 The wife and I have been living in an apartment for the last few months and have finally decided to settle down in NC and buy a house. It's super exciting because it's in a new development and we get to design it from the ground up. We spent a few hours the other day picking out all the stuff we want in it and I can't wait to see it actually get built. If all goes well it should be move in ready sometime in August. So thats that... I'll try to be around more on Leggo producing some more videos. At the moment I'm still not doing any coaching as I'm definitely motivated to just produce results myself at the tables. Just one thing that might be a little speed bump... my Xbox 360 broke a few months ago and the one I ordered from Stars in early December just got here today. Gotta say COD2:MW is pretttty addicting...
