thought it was pretty cool with everyone sharing their past experiences of having people just stand by and do nothing or taking action themselves. Was a good read.
So as fate would have it I had my own story to tell today... I am driving on my way to get some lunch and I see a man and a woman looking distressed with a small child lying on the sidewalk and they're putting a shirt under his head. I decide its a decent enough time to stop and see if things are alright since I'm not in a rush to be somewhere.
So I pull over and try to see if I can assist them in anyway. After speaking to the father (both him and his wife didnt have very good English), he tells me that they arent sure whats wrong and that the kid just started shaking. Immediately I'm thinking the kid had a seizure but I'm not sure if the parents are even aware of what I'm talking about. The mother is in hysterics worried that her kid is going to die or something terrible, although I'm pretty sure seizures rarely result in death unless your alone and hit your head or something... maybe some one more informed can let me know about this.
I'm not the first person on the scene btw as there was already a blonde middle aged woman there who claims she is a lifeguard and is going to rub the kid down. The place where this was all going down was on a very busy street and there were no cars or anything obstructing so you could really see it quite easily. I look up at traffic and sooooooo many people are looking out their windows just staring, with some people leaning out of their car the most I've ever seen. At this point in time though, I wasnt really expecting anyone to stop as there was already me and around 4 other people at this time gathered around.
Ambulances were called via 2 cellphones and a woman parks by the curb to talk on her phone, I'm guessing about an unrelated matter due to the following. The blonde lifeguard woman yells out for someone to get rid of the woman cuz she's parking where the ambulance would come and want to probably park. A woman goes over to speak to the lady driver and they exchange words for a minute or so and apparently the woman wont leave and said to mind your own business lol. I thought it was reasonable as there really wasnt a need for her to move until an ambulance shows up.
Another car pulls over to help and two guys come out. They bring with them a very nice emergency medical kit. Turns out one of the guys is a nurse. I try to hold back any male nurse jokes which were unlikely to go over well with the crowd. Although I'm sure the one cute girl that was around my age would have appreciated it. The old people, not so much. It took a while for the ambulances to actually arrive probably like 15 minutes or so. When the ambulance arrives, the blonde lifeguard lady runs out into the streets and actually starts directing traffic for some reason although I'm 99% sure this was unnecessary and probably more problematic. The ambulance already had sirens for crying out loud. Everyone must've thought someone was stabbed and about to die the way this woman just ran out into the streets to flag an ambulance down with disregard to traffic.
I figure with a lifeguard, a nurse and the ambulance that the kid will be okay and I didnt really have a lot of skills to bring to the table unless someone needed to know when to lay down pocket queens so it was off to fill my stomach with greasy delights.
