There's a post on 2+2 ( http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29...3/index22.html) going on with some guy complaining about how he's a pro poker player and made like hundreds of thousands per year but still believes its a shitty life to have to grind it out while being really unmotivated and becoming lazy. The post kinda rubs me the wrong way cuz it seems like he blames poker for making him not be able to have a happy life when its obviously his personality that makes him lazy/unmotivated and also has no appreciation for his achievements.

But more importantly, I think his post outlines how important it is to find something your passionate about and that money isn't everything. It really is hard to be happy without having good relationships with others, good health (staying fit, not sickly, etc.) , and enough cash to live on. Now when I say cash to live on, I dont mean enough money to retire at 30 or go on a permanent vacation. In fact with relationships and health in ideal situations, I think I'd be happy making a regular job salary and just gettin by.

Playing online poker as a pro definitely can be isolated as one will usually spend most of his hours grinding away on the computer alone and there's not a whole lot of socialization going on. Plus there's a lot of sitting around and not much exercise relative to a lot of other jobs. So there really has to be a lot of work put in to balance out the other areas of life compared with other professions. If you start to neglect these areas, I think thats where the unhappiness, unfulfilled feeling comes from... but the beauty of it is that hopefully by being a pro online player, you're raking in a ton of cash, maybe not as much as the original poster but enough to be able to take time whenever you need it to work on those areas. The freedom that comes with being pro allows you to do whatever you want essentially, pursuing whatever dreams you wish to accomplish. If you want to improve your relationship / love life, you can easily take time every night to go out gaming. If you want to improve your fitness, you can easily head to the gym multiple times a week. If you want to do volunteering and give back to the community, no fkn problem! So I dont know what the guy is complaining about when all he has to do is figure out what he wants and go get it; and so should everyone else who have the means to do so

Good stuff James, I completely agree. Proves me wrong about Americans all pursuing the dream.

Is the author of the post on 2+2 a MTT grinder?
I think balancing is a lot easier if you're playing cash. It's not too hard to make enough to live on. It's a few hours per month and you can spend the rest on w/e you want (studying, having a regular job).
Balancing is a lot more difficult if you have to grind hours in MTT's waiting for the FT that's gonna make your month. Especially if you're not from the states MTT life is night-life.

I agree. It's all about the experience you create for yourself. People view poker as a quick way to riches, but don't realize the effort involved. The guys who complain in general wouldn't be successful in most jobs.q

Well the thing was the guy was doing very well for himself to the point where he could take a break for a year and still be quite wealthy. MTTs do suck as a living compared to cash games though, i hate the days when I decide to sit down and play mtts all day. its such a grind. I have no idea whether the poster was a mtt grinder... and isura is right its the experience you create for yourself, the life you build for yourself. No matter what job you have, its what you do outside of that which will really define your life.
