Flying the WcoopPosted in Poker | View Comments (11) |
That title is obviously a stretch. ‘Flying the coop’ means to escape from something, which doesn’t seem to make any sense in this context. I mean if I had to I invent a reason why I was escaping anything in playing the WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) I’m sure I could. Possibly something silly about ‘running away from the fear of online tournaments’. It wouldn’t be true of course, but you couldn’t really prove that. And even if you could prove it, who would bother to? And if someone was the kind of person to bother to, who would ever listen to them?
Till next time.
Nah.
Anyway, the WCOOP is just around the corner (starting September 5th), and this year I’m actually going to be playing in a few events. I’ve never been the type of guy who enjoys wearing jewellery, but I hear good things about World Series bracelets. And if online poker is more enjoyable than live poker, then it naturally follows that an online bracelet must be more sexually appealing to wear on your wrist then its live counterpart.

One of the bigger problems standing in my way of said virtual bracelet dream is a time zone issue, as most online tourneys start at silly hours for those of us in Australia. I’m not quite ready to commit to the point where I’m going to bed at 8pm and waking up at 4am to start a tourney run, so I’m limited in my event choices to those that start at 8PM ET (which is I think 10am here). Even that is a bit early for me, but whatever.
I’ll definitely be playing in a couple of the $1,050 2 Day NLH events that start at that time, as well as probably the turbo PLO [1 rebuy, 1 add-on] on the 13th. If I find myself enjoying the bracelet hunt then maybe I’ll try to add in something else too. If I don’t find myself enjoying it then I’ll just watch re-runs of ‘Bonanza’ instead. Either way I’ll be having a good time.
You can find the full schedule/ ways to qualify here: http://www.wcoop.com/
And this week’s edition of The Big Game had Prahlad and Ansky along with Negreanu, Hellmuth and Eugene Katchalov. Ansky really got into it with Hellmuth later in the week with some entertaining results.
Till next time.
