Hey guys,
Just wanted to grab some quick feedback on my latest project. For months I’ve been trying to come up with something really cool (and profitable) to work on within the poker world, and now it looks like it might just be becoming a reality.
I often hear people talking about the next big poker boom. Some say it’s going to be in Asia, others say it’ll be the result of legislation changes. But I think everyone has so far been missing out on the best potential market of all: kid’s poker.
Think about it. Children’s television is a huge industry. Toys are even bigger. Kids get money from their parents for whatever they want. And their brains aren’t nearly as developed as adults, so it's possible they'll be even weaker than the famed 2003 online poker fish.
With all this in mind, I have decided I am going to write the ground-breaking kids TV show that will bring poker into mainstream children’s entertainment. I have a meeting with execs from Nickelodeon next week (I’m going to try to convince them to develop a whole channel called Pokerlodeon), and I’m just looking for any ways I can tighten my pitch before the big day. I’ll probably only get one shot at this, so I’d better make it count
The show will be called ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranges’.
At first I was concerned that my idea was too derivative from another existing television show, but then I thought, ‘come on, if a show as respected as
Trading Spouses can rip off
Wife Swap, then why even try to hold myself to a higher standard? ’. And then I was cool with it.
Our heroes will wear different coloured spandex outfits, and will fight imbalance wherever they find it in life. Here is a rough script for the trailer:
“
NARRATOR:
Starting this fall on Pokerlodeon, the only Poker channel marketed exclusively to kids, it’s the Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranges!!!
All your favourites are here!! Narrow Range {thin MMPR}, Strong Range {ripped MMPR}, Split Range {MMPR who becomes two versions of himself when powered up} and River Check-Raising Range {Self-explanatory}.
Watch as they encounter the toughest situations imaginable..
MMPR1:
Hey, why are they playing on the see-saw?
MMPR2: [staring into camera]
It’s always good to balance your ranges!
MMPR1:
Hey, why is he eating when we’ve got villains to catch?
MMPR2: [staring into camera]
It’s sometimes good to widen your ranges!
MMPR1:
Hey, why is he trying to catch that bird?
MMPR2:
It’s sometimes theoretically good to employ a Game Theory Optimal strategy such that our opponent should be indifferent between calling and folding.
MMPR1:
Right…but what does that have to do with catching a bird?
MMPR2: [Slowly backs away from the camera]
NARRATOR:
And don’t be surprised to see some mysterious, unexpected characters.
MMPR1:
Hey, who the heck are you?
MMPR2:
Relax, that’s just my no good twin brother, Capped Range.
MMPR3: [A MMPR wearing black, but with an additional baseball cap]
Sup.
NARRATOR:
It’s the Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranges. Wednesdays at 6.30, only on Pokerlodeon.”
Any feedback is appreciated.
*NOTE: I haven’t cleared this idea with PokerStars quite yet (though I'm sure they'll be fine with it). Until then the views of this blog do not represent PokerStars in any way.
Till next time.
