Not playing on the sideline
I've played with this kid once before...hes a bluffer, and a sick one at that. The game is 1/1NLH, and on his first hand the bluffer has been convinced; partly by myself, to rerestraddle to £8. Its folded round to me and I look down at KK.
"Forty", The action folds to him as they all know the bet size is ridiculous from the previous action and he begins to agonise for a what seems like a lot longer than a couple of seconds and awkwardly drops in two £25 chips.. He checks a 6x3x2x flop so I flick £60 into the middle. One of two thing will now happen. They'll be a rasie or they'll be a call followed by a mandatory bet on the next card. "Yep, I'm all in". My stack's in the pot faster than Phil Hellmuth would even be able to reach for his chips. I flip up my KK and a mutter of "mmmhmm thats winning" comes from my oppenents direction. the Ah is delivered on the turn and I mutter "UHH not anymore" His cards are still face down but I know Im now dead to a king. The river is a blank and he tables A5 which is followed by a chip count of an extra £318. I laugh and look to my right as I count out the chips, I see sympathetic looks of disgust for what they've just witnessed, I look to my left to see people excited by whats just happened. Its funny how poker effects people differently isn't it? Im in for £1000 on a 1/1 game and am left with a little more than 100 in change, Im left with little choice but to reload for another 1000 and cover our good friend. I look at QJo and open for 15, my standard rasie on this game is anywhere between 12-22x depending on whos giving action. Im expecting 3-6callers as they start to feel 'valued in'. The flop comes of interest containing two kings and a ten, the button looks like hes itching to bet it so once our good friend had checked his option I followed suit. two moree checks and Im praying for the ace to drop. WOW it comes straight in and I increase the size of the pot by £40.. everyone folds leaving our man alone, with such a large stack will he possibly be able to resist? The river comes down an offsuit 8, leaving the backdoor flushdraw incomplete and I'm faced with a bet of £65. Now this is perfect, hes put £120 into the pot and hes not going to give that up without a fight. I rasie another £95 expecting to call somewhere between 150-250 more. Our man tanks for a while beofre declaring that he is "all in". In a moment of self doubt I think to myself, Jeeze... I wasnt expecting that... £560 can it really be this easy? Or has he got the standard sicknees of KT/K8? Well I've set it up for this and apparently im going to be getting an extra 300 ontop of what I was expecting.. either that or im going to be in for 4000BB's next hand. I commit the chips and get the response: "Enjoy your money"
