I think seeing things through "the eyes of a child" or having a sense of awe is necessary. It is very humbling and grounding to realize we are so small and one of billions of people. In this sense of smallness we also realize our individual power: to love. Had to restrain myself from rant mode but always make time to be in awe of the universe and how our species has progressed over time.

and great atrocities happened in our grandparents time e.g. the brutal events of the Holocaust and that total nutcase Hitler, the rise of other dictators Pol Pot, Stalin and the like.. it boggles the mind to think that >70 years ago these maniacs carried out genocides that left a social and moral vacuum that would encapsulate the thought process for generations to come e.g. now you can be put in jail for even flying the swastika in Germany.

Sometimes its hard to imagine living in a world where by being born under the "wrong" race, religion is enough to have a persons life ended because the people at the top deemed you "untermenchen" (subhuman), as a jew it is hard to fathom, one moment your running from a dictatorship that has turned against you in the late 30's because of unfortunate economic circumstances, a few years later if you can weather the storm you have a country of your own in 1948, 2000 years since being driven from it.

May we live in interesting times even now...

Year 2250, on some holographic blog on a floaty screen, probably on a spaceship. 'Man, just like 9 generations ago they actually enslaved, tortured, killed, and ate animals and it was considered sane!'
