Poker posts and stories
I am back in my hometown Thursday through Sunday for a wedding. The groom and I went to school together from 6th grade-12th grade. We then lived together all 4 years of college. I am excited to see some people I haven't seen in a while and celebrate the marriage of an important person in my life. Picked up my tux today and put in a little session and now gonna watch Community, Modern Family, and The Office before bed.
April Goals
1) Send 30" monitor in for warranty repair and/or refund (hopefully refund since I already bought a diff 30") FAIL
2) Look at converting my SEP-IRA to ROTH IRA CONVERTED
3) Pay estimated taxes for Jan 1-Mar 31st due April 15th (Federal) and April 30th (State) PAID
4) Keep playing lower variance poker 90% OF THE TIME
5) 140+ hours EPIC FAIL, PROBABLY 70 HOURS
6) Have a bit of fun, but not too much! OK
7) Hoping to get my computer back from repair YES
8) Keep doing p90x, eat healthier, and pray my back and shoulder keep working properly SMALL FAIL, HAVEN'T DONE P90X IN A WEEK BUT PLANNING ON DOING MORE IN MAY, SHOULDER BOTHERING ME, GONNA SEE DOCTOR, EATING HABITS MUCH IMPROVED
May Goals
1) Gonna continue Rush until I get bored with it OR realize I don't have an edge (but I think I got a nice edge)
2) GRIND MY ASS OFF, this is likely the last opportunity I have to put together a big month before school starts
3) Figure out where the hell I'm gonna live and who I'm living with when I start school (this has been a bit frustrating so far as most of the places available are shitty apartments)
4) Go to the doctor to have shoulder/back examined
5) Definitely continue eating healthy and at least doing p90x cardio workouts and maybe some of the strength training videos which don't expose my shoulder
6) Planning on going to Cubs game May 15th, but considering backing out of that
7) Book a trip to Vegas for a few days during the WSOP in June

I haven't really felt like playing much lately. My hours played this month (and this year in general) is pathetic for a "professional" poker player. I am ready for the big changes in my life, but school is 2.5 months away. 2.5 months is way too long to just sit around and feel unmotivated. I'm not quite sure what would get me out of this funk. I'm not a big fan of vacations or trips, so I don't really know any other options. Maybe coaching other people would help? The worst part about the situation is that I know once I am in school, I am going to want to play poker! FML. I think I need some kind of prop bet in May for a minimum number of hours played with severe consequences for failure. I am blessed with an amazing opportunity to make a lot of money at a young age, but I am not taking advantage of it at the moment. I hate feeling like a waste of talent.
If anybody has any suggestions or wants to freeroll me on potential prop bets, please let me know.

Played a session of 2/4 6max to start the day. There were some donks in the games. It is, however, amazing how much the modern day donkey hits and runs. Most of them are 100% scared money. They aren't afraid to make dumb call downs, but they win a big pot and adios. It's a sad state to see that constantly happen, but that is just the way it's going to be.
I ate lunch, showered, and got back to work. I put in a session of 1/2 Rush Poker. LOVED it. Have to figure out my edge (hourly, don't give a shit about BB/100 and neither should you FYI) in that game. I watched maybe 20 minutes of The_End's Rush video and one thing he emphasized was taking your time and thinking even though it's Rush Poker. That single piece of advice really helped. The plan is continue with 1/2 Rush for the rest of the week. I think Rush would be PERFECT for me while I'm in school. Sit down, play for 1 hour and get in 800-1000 hands of poker. I can handle 4 tables of Rush like nothing, but get me above 6 tables of regular poker and I suck. So, my hourly should be considerably higher at Rush.
Tomorrow morning I have my initial appointment for Invisalign braces. After that I need to get some groceries, and then I'm going to try to play 4hrs of Rush (with breaks), do Plyometrics workout for P90X, and then put in 1-2hrs of Rush after the workout.
I will leave you with what I believe to be a super funny hand I played this morning at 2/4 against a reg. I flatted the flop for a couple reasons. First, BB was a huge donk and thought he was in the hand (which makes SB donk bet stronger IMO). Second, if I raise and get 3bet, I have terrible equity as I am going to be up against 2 pair, sets, and better flush draws. I guess he thinks I would have raised the flop with top pair, TT-AA. Once he checks the turn my range for betting the turn AND river is any 9, TT-AA, and busted FD. I always have 1 pair (Q9 the exception), but I guess he thinks I'm not capable of betting a 9 turn/river or that I would have raised flop with top pair/overpairs (never w/out reads). I also bet strong 6's on turn and 77-88. His call is sooooooooo -EV.

I feel like playing 6max for some reason. Specifically, 2/4 6max. Not sure why, but gonna follow my gut. I do know that I'm down lifetime at 3/6 6max and wouldn't mind changing that in the near future. I have some other crap to update, but don't feel like doing it right now. I'll probably be in the mood tomorrow after I'm down $4k via set vs set, KK < AA, QQ<KK, etc! LOL j/k 6max isn't THAT nitty, but it's close.

It does not feel very gratifying to win a 11 buyin pot when all of the money in the pot was yours from the start. Guy bought in for $400--->$3800 at 2/4. My goodness he was a psycho. Luckily I got him in the end and that is all that matters.
I am approaching 1,000,000 hands in my database, so will post graph next week to mark the epic milestone.
Good luck

So, the package that came was my computer I had sent in for repair. Very pleased with the turnaround time. I'm kind of an idiot for not sending it in earlier (it broke on Jan 9th, I shipped it on Mar 22nd!) I forgot how fast it is compared to my old one. I spent about 4 or 5 hours getting it ready. Fun activities included moving files from old-->new computer, exporting/importing hands, updating Windows and drivers and shit. It was annoying.
Estimated quarterly tax is sitting the mailbox waiting to be picked up, so [x] that task. My next little project is going to be my old 30" monitor. One of these days I will get the courage to call Samsung. I say "courage" because I have a sneaky suspicion I will be on hold for quite some time. I hate being on hold.
Grinding tomorrow morning/afternoon, p90x workout, and then taking my brother and his wife to a Minor League Baseball game for brother's birthday. Saturday I have a bachelor party back home which will be an all-day and evening event. Sunday will be hungover+drive back+workout=fail for grinding I would guess. I might, however, try to slip in an evening session.
HAVE TO GRIND HARD NEXT WEEK. I cannot think of any big projects, events, and/or dates coming up that will hinder my ability to play poker.

I don't have enough to justify a title for any particular topic, so I will just ramble.
Haven't been playing much poker. I put in a good first day of the month and have played a few random sessions since then. Things like brother's birthday, Easter weekend, Opening Day baseball, and the Final Four have been a big problem.
At some point this month I did calculate my estimated tax payments, so I did accomplish a little bit. Still have not sent the check yet, though.
Today, I received a call from UPS about a package notification. I haven't ordered anything and the phone call was to my old number, SO I'm hoping that it is my computer coming back from repair. Not a bad turnaround time IF it's the computer (13 days). I was anticipating it would be another 1-2 weeks, so I would be pleasantly surprised if it's fixed and back to me.
P90X has been going well. I think I've lost a couple pounds, but I'm not really trying to lose much weight (I'm skinny already). Sunday night I felt my right trapezius muscle tightening and it was actually a little swollen. Taking caution, I skipped Monday's workout (almost all push-ups and pull-ups). Returned to action on Tuesday for Plyometrics. Today is Shoulders, Bis, and Tris. I'll probably skip the shoulder exercises as my trap is still a little sore, but I plan on doing the Bi and Tri lifts.
I might mess around in some 6max or full ring games at $0.5/$1 just to keep myself fresh in those areas. As school approaches (3 months away, I might just start a countdown timer like Probability did for Thailand) I am pondering what I want to do with regards to playing poker. I would like to play HU during school, but I don't think that's realistic. I'm thinking 10 hrs/week of 6 max is doable even with my tough schedule. I will probably try to focus on not playing during the week and stick to playing Thurs-Sun.
Another goal I want to set for April is to not spend too much money. I have spent more than I would like from January-March. Part of that was for poker (30" monitor), but most of it was for personal use (watch, Wii, new cell phone, new camera). I think I have all my "wants" for the time being. I cancelled my Netflix, not so much b/c it's expensive, but more so b/c it makes me lazy. I might even consider selling my PS3, Wii, and LCD TV when I begin school. I am going to gauge how much free time I have and the most efficient use of that free time (poker, leisure reading, exercise, TV, and video games). TV and video games are definitely a big waste of time, but you also have to do something you enjoy with your spare time and I enjoy both. I am looking forward to a small credit card bill in May!

Goals from end of February blog...
Short-term Goals
[x] 1) Send computer in for warranty repair
[ ] 2) Send 30" monitor in for warranty repair and/or refund (hopefully refund since I already bought a diff 30")
[x] 3) Find status of rebate I never received from the computer purchase
[x] 4) Status of summer school class
[x] 5) Fix sleep schedule
[x] 6) Start grinding
[x] 7) Stop the caffeine again (won't be hard), just started drinking pop again in Vegas
[ ] 8) Talk to CPA *****(did taxes myself)
[ ] 9) Look into Health Savings Account (HSA) *****probably not gonna get one
[ ] 10) Look at Invisalign braces *******(gonna wait until I move to school and find a dentist there)
[x] 11) Finish watching Dexter *******(finished Season 3)
March Goals
[ ] 1) 140+ hours *****(probably around 100-105hrs)
[?] 2) No tilt *****(definitely reduced tilt)
[x] 3) Reduce variance *****(felt good to not be a spew monkey for small edge against ppl that might hit and run)
[x] 4) Be less angry about poker, less anxious about life *****(feeling good)
[x] 5) Taxes complete
[x] 6) Not worry too much about money results ******didn't look at HEM too much, never knew my monthly total at any point during March
[?] 7) Gym at least 3x/week, no fucking excuses *****Started doing P90X on March 22nd, so that is 6 days/week and cleaned up my diet to remove a lot of junk food. I'm liking the P90X so far. Hopefully my back/shoulder can hold up and I can see some nice changes.
Haven't been up too much lately. Current schedule looks something like this....
Grind until 3 or 4 pm, do P90X from 5-6:30, and then relax the rest of the night. It is definitely draining to go from barely exercising to 6 days/week. March Madness has been crazy, but I'm not really looking forward to the Final Four. I will watch the championship game IF Butler is involved. I dislike Duke and Michigan St. Michigan St luckboxed their way in the Final Four while the other teams have deserved it. I'm neutral towards West Virginia.
I think I'm going to head home on Saturday and Sunday and hang out with some of the family. I have a bachelor party back home on Saturday the 10th as well, sooooo I might skip Easter just to get some hours in at the tables. Not sure yet though.
