I'm at a junction in my life where I need to decide what path I will take. I've been talking to a fellow Physics PhD. grad who is starting a hedge fund. It's exciting to be on the ground floor of something that could be huge. It would be legitimized way of playing high stakes poker with a much higher upper end. I don't know if I want to do that or find a research position. My area of expertise is high power lasers and I've spent ten years becoming an expert on lasers and optics. It feels weird to just leave them behind. At the same time, I love poker and doing something that is a natural extension of it is exciting to me.
Poker has been good, but not spectacular to me lately. Recently, my main PLO games on pstars have been messed up since they changed the buyins to promote short stack play under the guise of helping full stacked play. I keep reading about so many people hitting big scores and I'm still having trouble putting in the hands. My goal had been to be at 3/6 PLO full time right now with an eye to being at 5/10 by the end of the series. Hopefully, by writing this blog, I will put in the hands and seriously up my game. More session review. More implementation of the theory I have worked on. No tilt.
It would also be nice if I could motivate myself to play more than 6 tournaments a month and get some of that free money. The 1R1A turbo PLO SCOOP was sick. I wish there were more tournaments like that.
