Hello

Been a few weeks since I posted. Well doing OK, still grinding away but slowly getting there and up this month (yes I know its only the 2nd April!).

My last post stated that "I am a bad poker player" - now...more like "I am still not great but improving", doesn't quite sound as catchy does it?

Anyway, in my quest to become the bees knees, the mutts nuts or the dogs bollocks I am interested in table selection which I keep hearing about.

Now in the risk that I sound like a total novice, what does that mean? What stats do you look for with this and what actual stat amount is a good guideline?

Is it the amount of people to a flop or the average pot? Obviously I would like to win the most possible so this little nugget of info would be useful - any pointers?

Thanks

The day is Tuesday 15th Feb and I am a bad poker player.

Don't want to start like an AA meet but it has to be said.

I last posted about a week ago and I have started the micro stakes. I was up to $180 and in about 2 days have gone down to $75.

Why?? Combination of just bad play, tilt and a few bad beats mixed in. I play too much OOP and don't think about hands enough. I feel so frustrated that my bankroll (if you could call it one) has been cut in half and now I feel I need to wrtie this to help me move on.

The first step is admitting the problem they say, and now I need to take steps to radify this and hopefully well...not be a bad poker player.

For me to admit this, is quite a step I feel, as I feel a lot of players go along thinking they are as they say in England, the "Bees Knees".

There you go, first step to a better future??? We will see, wish me luck - thanks for reading.

Hopefully my next post will be better reading!

Hi

Well been on here for about 1 month and after losing my initial $50, I was given some advice - e.g. learn the game, watch some vids etc..., so I did and lost again lol but now I have re-designed my game and got a tidy $175. Basically I play pretty much a controlled LAG game after watching Gregheadflow vid and I am doing OK, not getting excited but BIG improvement.

Anyway, I digress...

I read Daniel Negreanu is doing a bankroll challenge - $0 to $10,000. Now, he has set himself some guidelines to moving up the stakes:

1. He won’t move up in limits unless he has 500 big blinds for that limit. He’s starting at $0.01-$0.02 with a $10 bankroll.

2. When possible, his buy in amount will allow him 5 buy ins at that limit. For example, if he has $5 left, his buy in for the game will be $1. He will continue to do that until he dips below the min buy in.

3. He will play only NL cash games. He’ll try to play full ring games as much as possible.

4. If he doubles his bankroll in a session he’ll quit on his blind to avoid risking too high a percentage of his bankroll in any one hand.

5. At about the $5-$10 limit he may decide to increase the number of big blinds required to move up in limits. Negreanu says 500 BB’s is plenty for the micro games, but could be short for the higher limit games with better opponents. He will base his decision on when to do that at his discretion.

6. He may also lower the buy in amount for the higher limit games from 1/5th of his bankroll per session to 1/10th of his bankroll per session.

7. When the amount needed to reach a goal is less than the 1/5th of the bankroll buy in, the buy in will be equal to the amount needed to reach the goal. Example: If 1/5th of the bankroll is $4.50 but you only need $2.50 to reach the goal, the buy in for the next session will be $2.50.

Now I realise its a little different for him as basically he loses then he still has a small matter of about $12.7million in the bank but it left me to ask the question of what the guidelines are to moving up the stakes?

According to old Danny boy you need 500 blinds at that level, well after grinding at 0.05/0.10 I do have 500 blinds at the next level which is 0.10/0.20 ($100) but yet I read elsewhere that you should have 20 buy ins which at 0.10/0.20 is $500 ($25 x 20), so can anyone advise???

Hello

I have just created my profile and loaded into Fullt Tilt - $50, started playing on the 5/10c short hand tables and got my bankroll up to $70 - nice, then the beats.

Now I know everyone has had bad beats so not gonna moan....to much - but i must have had all mine in the same day - losing $40 of my bankroll on them. Now I know a lot of you have given up a $40 bb and not losed much sleep but to me this is alaming. Quick overview.

Lost to qq to qks (on flop, he had flush draw and shoved), lost to top pair to 2nd pair (aq, to his t9), he shoved again on flop and hit 2nd ten on river, lost with set of 3's to open ender flush and str8 draw - he shoved on turn, hit flush on river and finally qq (again) to t9 - shove by maniac on ten high flop, checked to trap and he hit 9 on river.

OK, now you see. You get your money in a favourite and lose, but hey you must take comfort in that I hear some of you say...yeah yeah - doesnt get my money back.

I didn't want to start the blog with a moan, but my aim for this year is to have a bankroll of $1,000 by 31st Dec 10 - got another $970 to go! Wish me luck.

Phil
