Legend of the Hidden Donkey
Posted in Poker | View Comments (2)

Every now and then at 10/20 there is some random donkey playing two tables like a big silly goose, and the regulars play absolutely terribly against him. My guess it that they simply look at VPIP, PFR, and aggression stats and say, "oh, it's a donk," then proceed back to playing 8 tables.

Of course, the guy always runs sick hot, but it just boggles my mind how the regs pay him off in spots where he always has the nuts.

Well, I encountered a specific player like that last night. The regs/FTP kept giving him free money, and then I attempted to take it away. Then, well, it was interesting to say the least . Just to clarify, he was on one 9max table and one 6max table (hence the differences in hand histories)

Here is his climb to greatness:

(OK, so UTG was a fish here too)

I'm pretty sure at this point my notes on him became: splashes around preflop but doesn't put in money postflop loosely.

And, in line with my note:

Probably the best hand ever. My note changed to splashes around postflop in 3bet pots, but not in raised pots.

Obviously running sick hot is part of the package. But, at this point, the regulars saw the past hands, and still didn't adjust properly. Our "hero" had TT here:

So, this entire time I've been 3betting him a bunch, and being generally annoying. We are basically jousting still, though.

Now I pick up the rocks and go to town. I normally would go bet bet bet vs someone like this but I had some reads on him at this point:

Hero showed A A (two pair, Aces and Kings) and WON $2,447 (+$1,227 NET)

Now, I recently unchecked auto muck hand on FTP and PS, and honestly wondered why. Then I remembered that I would use it to tilt aggro donks. I figured I needed to show him a bluff shortly after the aces hand (this happened 3 hands later I think):

Results: $720 Pot ($3 Rake)

why did you raise the flop in the Q6 hand? that's bad

why are you checking the turn in the AA hand? i know you said you normally don't do it, but there's a reason- bc it's not good. this is not a floaty flop, there are no gutshots to go crazy, this is a value flop where he's almost always got a piece, even if it is ace jack, and there's no reason not to stack him in that hand
