I got an IM from someone I've never seen before but apparently was named xxxx2 where xxxx is an account that reported being hacked. I was away from my computer and didn't respond, and during that time I was kicked off my AIM account.

sick, i didnt know it could be done that way. internet is sick your never really safe, all you can is try and keep a low radar and make sure you take the best precautions to stay safe.
