Challenge Time

Hi guys,

I haven't posted in a long time, and a bunch of stuff has happened since then. I was living with some 2+2ers in a really cool place for 6mths in Perth. But during that time, I kinda couldnt get into grinding ever. I did towards the end and went on a nice heater at 200 and 400 Euro HU. But basically it amounted to taking 6mths off poker. This time off, made me hate where my life was going, because it wasn't going anywhere. So I considered moving on from poker a number of times, but really during this time I couldn't be considered a pro because I play almost no hands.

I feel that I am one of the biggest underachievers in online poker. I used to really struggle with bankroll management, and now I'm way too nitty so I need to find a nice place in the middle.

Basically I have cashed out my roll and left myself with 1k, I'm going to start off at 100nl 6max and run it up and really challenge myself to improve or move on. Not sure how many Bi's I'm going to need to win before I move up but I'll update this when I have decided.

I really love poker while I'm playing but I hate that it enables me to be ****ing useless sometimes, ie this morning I woke up browsed the net and played a flash based webgame for 6hrs, spent and hr playing guitar and here I am. This is what I have been like with the occasional grind session for far too long, time to put up. I've seen people that I know do some sick things in poker, people like SEABEAST and JimmyHat1000 and its time I throw my hat into the ring, I know I have the natural ability to be atleast as good as both of them. Now its time to prove it to myself, I'm going to update this blog DAILY and keep a record of how this progresses. I've got a ton of money saved and but aside so living expenses are taking care of, now all that is left is this challenge.

RULES
1. 1k starting at 100nl 6max, can reload infinite times if busted.
2. May play between 4 and 6 tables, depending on site and game conditions, NO MORE THAN THIS
3. Check my levels of focus every 15mins and make sure I'm paying attention
4. No distractions, msn, browsing various forums etc while playing, Unsure at this point about music.
5. Go to Ju-Jitsu every Tuesady and Thursday beginning 31st March
6. Post in the Memoirs forum, I've been super lazy and haven't done this once.
7. No playing other games or Tournaments as an excuse not to play
8. No minimum number of hours per week, but no time wasting or procrastinating, if I've got nothing to do, I'll be grinding.

Thats it so far, please feel free to leave comments and let me know what you think etc. I'll update this with hands, with extra attention to hands I **** up (going to shame myself into not doing it again.)

GL all

was thinking about this today actually, about grinding burswood back in the day.

i used to always wonder who was better out of you and me, i knew we were the best two out of our group but i wasn't sure who was best.

seems like you felt so bad after playing underrolled those times that you overcompensated by becoming pretty nitty.

you went from uber spewtard who thought he could outplay anyone to the point that bankroll management didn't apply, to being scared to get too confident in case you turned into the old nick!

it really is all about finding a middle ground, from having confidence in yourself but also the humility to show up and grind, to take losses, to not get cocky or lazy, etc.

it's never too late. i'd been floating around poker for 5-6 years when i threw my hat in the ring, which is exactly the right way to put it.

moving up requirements? fwiw i did a similar thing to this about 8 months ago. cashed out my roll and started again with 2k on 3 sites and grinded up from 50/1. it got pretty frustrating tbh. but i was generally 12 tabling

Jay your analysis as always is pretty much spot on, I agree with everything you said.

sh58, I meant bankroll requirements before moving up, guess that's what I get for not proof reading my blog post
