(someone tell me how to stick in an image, im too dumb and lazy to look)
the BBJ goes on party, which causes every table to have a popup alerting you that you are not the winner. thats fine, i start closing those down. then i get owned by some fish on the river with a pot sized bet. ok thats fine. whatever. more popups. great. closing them down. flop a gutty vs a reg who defends his BB. he check minraises me on a board where i think he has nothing, so i three bet. he calls. i turn my nut gutshot and bet. he calls. the river bricks off.....
my tables are lagging. all 8 of them.
i pick up NFD+overs on another table. some spaz donks into me and i pot him. the turn makes me open ended and he bets 1/5 pot into me. so i flat. a heart comes on the river. he donks half pot into me again.

internet goes busto
my internet has been really sketchy since i got my desktop back. my skype sessions last all of 12 mins before the net decides to disconnect for 15 minutes. my poker sessions are interrupted midway thru with 'connection lost' spam everywhere.
let me tell you about one of my pet peeves. party and its stupid auto post system. where you go linkdead, come back, and it immediately posts you regardless of position. that stuff drives me ****ing nuts. if im going to just throw money away, i'd rather be throwing it at strippers or something. not posting dead money UTG.
back to the hands.
all 8 tables go boom. i come back and see my stack increased on both tables. this is party poker after all. you know. the site that folds your hand when you are last to act and there is no action. i guess i should be grateful. therefore the numbers in the screenshot arent correct. i am actually down like 350 or so over the last day.
i have no idea what is wrong with my game right now. sure i am like xyz buyins under expectation, but other things concern me.
over the last 27k hands. my w$sd is 44%. over my first 150k+ hands i was a solid 53%
i notice i am never getting paid when i triple barrel. so i triple barrel in a few more spots and bottom pair will look me up on K6279 board. thats right. i've been looked up by 23o on that board.
i took a extended vacation to relax, enjoy myself and have some fun. while it has been really relaxing, i do put some pressure on myself to put in some hands. its silly to watch everyone else around you make a small fortune from randomly clicking buttons, i should be entitled to my piece of the pie too. so relax, come back, put in 3000 hands and have nothing to show for it.
god i feel like such a whiny *****
i cant decide if i want to put in another 15k hands before next wednesday. or just avoid poker, spend time at the driving range and look forward to the trip to LA.
let me rant about LA.
when i first started playing poker, i found 2+2. well thats not correct. the person who told me to play poker actually told me to read 2+2 first, therefore i think i was there reading for a solid year before i played my first real hand of poker. since the beginning, there were always threads about commerce and the hilarity that was the poker room. i am extremely excited i get to finally go down there to play some of my bread and butter (LHE)
what i wouldnt give to be on a slight upswing heading into LA.
or hey, i could just keep getting it in with KK vs JJ and continuing to lose.

as i lay in bed, sore from a long day at the golf course, pondering whether or not I am sunburnt i figure i'll rant in here for a bit.
i just got back from a week long escape to montreal where i was visiting friends for a week. it was timed along with my 2 week break from poker where i was just going to go do other things not gambling related. the break has gone a little longer than expected since my desktop went busto when i got home. totally freaky weird cause i get back to my place and flip on the powerbar, everything turns on except my desktop. so i am pretty confused. after toying around with it, i conclude my power supply is shot. i normally dont grind on my laptop as i dont have updated databases on it nor HEM. either way hopefully i'll be back on things starting next week.
montreal is one sick city. it seemed like there was always something to do. sure i am really lazy at heart and was content on just relaxing and discussing various computer things with friends, but festivals, live shows, awesome resturants. the city is just completely sicko. minus the whole speaking of the french. i definitely will visit there again and it moves up onto the list of places i wouldnt mind moving to after i graduate.
in golfing news, i went with 2 friends to a par 3 course. just mostly for ****s and giggles. somehow i managed to con my way into getting a 2 stroke handicap per hole and both of my friends who usually shoot in the low 90s at regular courses put together the worst 18 holes i have ever seen leading me to win 10 skins combined. however, knowing that they like keeping the fish happy, im sure they could just be boosting my confidence and tripling the stakes when we hit a different course. my game is definitely improving though, hitting great drives and my short game is getting better. simply put, i manage to get 2 strokes per hole cause everyone knows how brutally terrible my putting game is. i dont think i know anyone who can be putting for birdie and then end up with a 6 putt disaster on the green.
went to the casino with a few friends. ended up playing 4 handed with 2 friends and some random in a 4/8 DC game. i am up about 70 in prop bets, then go on a -200 cooler in prop bets alone. some sick stuff when we are betting on flops, i have Q, other cards that are action are K/8/4. we pay 5 for 1 hit, 10 for 2, and 30 for trips. dealer puts up some random flops like K84 and im forced to pay out like a slot machine. after going on tilt, i decide its a good idea to play a hand of crazy pineapple, with a twist of course. we dont look at our cards till the turn. we randomly discard after the flop. and there is action preflop and on the flop. anyways, it ends up being 3 bets preflop blind. 2 bets on a 665r board blind. we randomly discard a card. and the turn is a 4. i end up calling a turn bet with Q7 as i figure to have 10 outs in a pretty massive pot. river puts a 5 on board making it 66554. i quietly muck and my other friend calls down with Q high. one person randomly discarded a 6, and the turn bettor had a 5. then a couple of 200 dollar 4 way omaha flips gone terribly wrong and im stuck a bit for the session. i run so bad at flipping.
well time to see if i can pass out now. this sleeping schedule of mine is nothing short of a freaking nightmare. *sigh*

i am on day 6 without any poker. during this break i have not logged a single hand and kept my exposure to poker at a minimum. this is for a variety of reasons as i feel i am just not playing to the best of my ability.
for the entire month of july i kept telling myself, ok you can take a week off, just focus on school. that would generally last 24h and like a degenerate i'd be back on the tables. july might be my first actual losing month in almost 3 years.
this break should be good for me. i leave in a few hours for montreal where i'll be staying with a friend for a week. it is what i consider a vacation. i will try to approach august with a fresh mindset, i have several things lined up in august and am very excited about the prospects.
so to pass some time, i took etowns advice and downloaded dexter. a couple of people have been saying what a great show it was so i figured i would give it a shot. season 1 took me about a day to finish and i kind of felt it was a tad predictable in some cases. the characters are interesting and you can relate to them which is cool. i found the finale to be decent, albiet a bit of a let down. it is by no means a terrible show, and there are lots of things i do enjoy about it. i guess i should watch season 2 and review the show then. sometimes shows actually get better with time, though most shows typically get worse.
hopefully august will just be filled with time spent golfing with friends. eating out. winning credit card roulette. learning from some of my friends who happen to play higher. and most importantly, running well in all aspects of life.

its nice to see poker still loves me. i neglect it for a week, cause i obviously have to study for my finals. by study i mean teach myself everything from scratch cause my instructors sucked and i hated them with a passion. well, exams finished, thank god. the paper finished, and im sure it is terrible, but i just cant be bothered with it. i mean sure, i want a scholarship, its like rakeback for school.
anyways so i decide to play a little today, although i had already told etown and somnius i was taking the weekend off to do things that i enjoy (watch porn and eat cottage cheese) but the allure of gambling before UFC night was too much.
so party is crashing left and right on me today, i cant figure out why. i am going to guess it is HEM related. but i am too dumb to figure it out so whatever. variance obviously. my first session at 2/4 is pretty boring. nothing happened. i got stacked twice, and i stacked two people. i ended up even. no real fantastic hands to report or nothing.

a little confused preflop. i had been 3 betting villian a lot. hes seen me 3b light on the button and then check down with air. i cant figure out if hes pissed at me 3 betting him so much, or tarpping me so i decide to flat and shove a lot of favourable flops.

yeah i really felt villian here had exactly what he had, hence the mini 3 bet on the flop to induce shove when he really has 0 fold equity anyways. he shows up at the very top of his range of course.

only 2 exams left, one last paper to write. then these summer classes are over. i hope i run good in the exams. i loathe statistics so much and the final 8 chapters might as well be written in swedish, i guess thats what i get for skipping class to go golfing. a bit of pressure for these exams, i am entering both exams with a 75% average, a little low by my standards, but this summer stuff really wasnt all that appealing for me, combined with my largest downswing, a car accident and everyone but me heading to vegas, it was a pretty crappy 6 weeks.
at first i thought summer school, this is where the keeners should go to get a step up on other people and graduate sooner. apparently i levelled myself as it would be quite the opposite. its where dumb people go in an attempt to catch up with the rest of the curve. oh and i forever hate group work. group work is cruel punishment. when the teacher says stuff like 'i am going to randomly pick your groups' i know believe it to actually mean 'to the people that speak english and seem smart, you are going to work with complete idiots in order to promote balance in this class'
what is worse than having a 12 page paper assigned in a group?
being stuck with 2 people who dont speak or write english.

oerwtpuwipoertu
adipogu09etu0wendfgjae
speitweutpwoeslkdjfalksjrqpoewiru0wet9u039tu40
swear to god, next semester, i am going into my classes and playing the 'hi i am immigrant no speaky english' card. maybe then i'll run good and get put into groups with the people who can actually carry a portion of the workload.
dont get me wrong, im sure this is how it is in the real world too. but hey, in my fantasy world where things are run the way i deem optimal, we do things different here.
anyways, rant over. i fully intend to grind a lot once school is done. etown just might nail my ass to a chair and stick two monitors infront of me and make me go go go. it doesnt actually sound that bad. not going to set up silly goals like play xxxxx hands in a month or make yyyy dollars, instead im just going to put forth my A+ game at all times and see where it takes me. the recent success of a lot of friends has stirred something in me. i want to fit in and be more successful at poker lolz.
as opposed to playing poker myself, i have been doing a lot of sweat sessions for people recently. its good to see them all profit madly during those sessions and also good to see that my reads are still sharp and maybe i actually am 'running bad' lately. but for now, i wont worry about poker. school first, then silly card game after.
on an entirely different note, a girl is going to bbq me dinner next week. obvious brag as i get steak and potatoes. the beat is that she is going to make a lot of vegetables and i have to eat them all. this girl does not see potatoes as a vegetable, it is a 'starch.' i can already forsee a lot of difficulties in this relationship.
forgot to add that i won a CC roulette today. currently running 1/4 now.

i blame myself
i have no idea when this monkey got on my shoulder and made me into some weirdo with a really weird randomized routine.
you'd think having a full course load for summer classes would atleast set some remotely decent schedule for me. i too made that wrong assumption.
lets take today for example.
wake up late
get to school
finish exam in 45 mins
cant figure out what to do with the 4h between classes
decide to go home (lol) cause sitting in stats class is a waste of my time anyways
get home
sleep 30 mins
play poker for 45 mins (ohhhhh party)
rant on phone with friend
eat lunch
sleep 30 mins
watch a poker video
sleep 1h
watch a poker video
then there is some gap between 3pm and 7pm where i am sure i fell asleep.
seriously, what type of person does this.
if this was an isolated incident, i would shrug it off. things like this happen every other day almost. sure june was quite possibly the worst month ever for me. 6k downswing, car accident, excessively popping ativans. but now we look at july.
school: fine, comfortable that i am doing good work cause im asian and therefore a natural keener
poker: downswing is over, havent been putting in hands due to exams, but grinding my way up. spend a lot of time helping friends out with their game, have been meaning to consult with my coach for more sessions.
car accident: this is pure variance in my life and i should shrug it off, pay the damned insurance company their blood money and move on
women: holy crap variance rollercoaster.
but blah. i still am trying to figure out where this rut came from. there has to be some deeper meaning, or atleast this is what i suspect, i could be levelling myself cause to the normal person, there should be nothing in my life worth complaining about.
things to be grateful for:
not having to work
being financially secure
having great friends who push me and support me. they also give me space when i decide to go be emo for a month.
healthy (sorta)
low stress lifestyle (hard to really stress when you dont really do anything)
you know what needs to happen
blizzard needs to come out with starcraft 2 already, so i can just waste a few months of my life clicking at some game that doesnt involve money. after playing poker for so long and having it be quite the beast in my life, some damned change would be good. i'd get a wii, but i still think i would look silly in my room swinging my arms around frantically. have any of you played mario party. do you know how silly you look in that one game where you have to "wash the car"
back to the books.
|
|
|
|
|
this is now my largest downswing ever.
i have a bitter taste in my mouth regarding poker
and yet for some reason i've grinded out more hands during this downswing than any of my upswings.
i dont even know if its my game thats bad (people have watched me and done HHs reviews) and they say that im still playing very good
is this the ugly side of variance?
took it over 500k hands to catch up to me. but its pretty gross.
in other news, an ambulance crashed into my car ripping off the driver side mirror and leaving damage on the front drivers side. apparently its my fautl as the police report stats 'the events are conflicted'
i am running out of ativan, and this nightmare doesnt appear to want to stop.
