Live success/ donating to micros

So I was planning on playing like 2k hands yesterday. Mostly cause I was motivated from the last 2M2MM where Jay won like 350k... it got me so pumped up. However, Friday night my friend who plays mtt's, and pretty much my only friend who plays poker in the area, called me up to see if I wanted to check out some local tournaments. I hadn't played live poker in nearly 6 mos... mostly cause I hate it, it's too slow. But, I'm gonna go check out the WSOP circuit in a few weeks and figured I should practice up a bit. I forgot how bad everyone still is in the live world and how good they think they are. It's down right hilarious listening to their reasoning for making plays, and just their general banter.

Anyways, it started out not so good, I was 0-3 in the 25d sng which are pretty much crapshoots. Then I entered in the 50d mtt which had 30 ppl. You can read a lil more detail here (http://www.leggopoker.com/forums/bra...ment-8046.html). Basically I played tight, then stole a bunch, then ran like fire and ended up chopping for 500 and change. I'm a lil disappointed I didn't play it out. The other guy was pretty weak, and even after a cooler and a suckout I still had a 80k-60k chip lead. I think I coulda won fairly easy and cashed for 700+ instead of 500. The blinds were really high though and I was tired. I guess I can't be too greedy, he seemed like a decent guy, huge fish though. I sat next to him most the tournament and he would fold like A4o preflop and be like "ooooo I really wanted to play that." after he limp folded to a raise. But whatever it is what it is and I finally won some money... hopefully my live run good will continue for the wsop circuit.

When I came home I hopped online to brag bout my success. Then me and Maximus decided to donate to the 1c 2c community at PLO. Pretty much anything suited or somewhat connected was all in preflop. I started out up like 6 BI then ran terrible and ended up down 10BI. The chat was pretty funny. It can be found here (http://www.leggopoker.com/forums/mic...894-page6.html). It wasn't nearly as funny if u were there and saw the action going on, but still kinda funny. I was actually on tilt when I was down 20d and trying to win it back, but everyone w/ my money left, which i guess is standard at 2 PLO . One guy said he had like .48c in his account or something and left w/ like 12d.

Today I decided to play a couple donkaments including the 2+2 freeroll. I min cashed in a 3d KO and had a few KO's so I think i won like 10d. I just got done w/ another 1 hr 6 max 25nl session and lost a BI... kinda getting pissed at my mediocre results. I'm just gonna keep on playing though and eventually I'll win... maybe.

Worst ever losing day

Posted 10-11-2009 at 07:23 PM by sh58
but not too bad, only $-8.5k. i have had a stoploss for so long so i could only realisticly lose 6k which i have done on countless occasions

however, i don't really bother with a stoploss anymore, so it was bound to happen sooner or later

playing great this month except the 1st day where i was a little rusty.

heres some random me losing big pots, some of these are particularly annoying

hand 1 we have really awkward stacksizes. i don't bet this flop with anything for reasons i won't get into here. c/r sucks because i can't do it small because his jam is too large (calling off your stack with a draw isn't very good imo) and can't really c/jam with these stacks. i'm reduced to c/c which is weird, but not that bad as i can c/jam alot of turns because villains will stab a tonne at these boards.

Hand #1
Full Tilt Poker $1000.00 No Limit Hold'em - 2 players
The Official 2+2 Hand Converter Powered By DeucesCracked.com

Hero (BB): $1349.50
BTN/SB: $2000.00

Pre Flop: ($15.00) Hero is BB with K Q
BTN/SB raises to $30, Hero raises to $110, BTN/SB calls $80

Flop: ($220.00) T J 7 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN/SB bets $150.00, Hero calls $150

Turn: ($520.00) K (2 players)

Final Pot: $2699.00
Hero shows K Q
BTN/SB shows K K
BTN/SB wins $2698.50
(Rake: $0.50)

just a big cooler, you might be able to c/c this against some villains, and this villain could well be one of them, its really close on the river. a good player should be able to turn up with tonnes of good overpairs here tho, so against good players it is definitely a jam

Final Pot: $2489.00

MP shows 8 8
MP wins $2486.00
(Rake: $3.00)

i hate these spots, there are a tonne of semibluffs he could have, but it still might be a fold here, i have tonnes of better hands, and he has priced himself in with his betsize. i know he is trying to level me, but it really doesn't work against me, i'm never stacking off with a worse made hand than Ax here, in fact his play makes me play more nitty vs him, so i don't like his play very much

Final Pot: $2270.00
Hero shows 6 K
BB shows 3 3
BB wins $2268.00
(Rake: $2.00)

these hands are very very easy to play, but very very annoying. villain is a massive donk and you have to valueraise on the river, and it is the easiest play in the world to fold. he obviously has the immortal nuts here.

Final Pot: $2200.00
SB wins $2197.00
(Rake: $3.00)

another sick spot, really close. there isn't much room to bluff with, but villain is a smart aggro player who probably is capable of it, and i am getting great odds. not sure if betting smaller/calling jam or betting smaller/folding are better plays, all 3 are decent options

London TR part deux

Posted 10-11-2009 at 06:31 PM by Robin_Ripper
Unfortunately i don't have all the pics yet from the vacation so this TR will end with very few pics, if i get them I'll either add them or just post them in future blogposts.

I ended at saturdaynight, we got home pretty late and people in 'our' neighbourhood were still outside
smoking fruit-tabacco. It's funny how I liked the smell of that so much. When i got back I also could still smell it sometimes but unfortunately have now lost the scent...

Anyway, on Sunday Denny's brother arrived (Andy) and me and Andy went get breakfast at 2 pm.
It was so weird when both Andy and Denny told me they wanted to get Steak for breakfast seperately... so we got steak and I got a burger.

After breakfast me and Andy went to a Play:
The Shawshank Redemption:

I've seen the movie ofcourse and must say that the play was actually really good, but if you haven't seen the movie there might be some parts that seem kindof weird. I never go to plays but might go a little more often now

We had great seats, seems like nowadays I/We always get the best possible seats regardless of the price, I guess that's why we play poker!

After the play we went out to dinner with those girls from the day before again and went to a japanese restaurant where they all had sushi and I got chicken terriyaki which was amazingly good. Also tried some sushi again but still not a fan, hard to like it if you don't like Seaweed and don't like fish like me

Got some drinks and went to the hotel around 1ish and watched a few eps of It's always sunny in philly! Which I still consider to be one of the best shows ever made!

We also got a little hungry again and decided to order roomservice:

On the menu it said that if they took more then 45 min it would be free... and they took about an hour so the food was free which was a nice 50 pound bonus Free food always tastes so much better (more on this later)

Monday
On monday we wanted to see a movie after getting breakfast at a fancy english restaurant where we got such a huge breakfast it was enough for the entire day (which didn't mean we didn't get dinner anyway). We CCR'd it and Andy lost (sofar Denny lost almost all the flips/CCR's) and another free dinner which made it so much better again.

We saw the movie Surrogates which wasn't as good as i hoped it would be but whatever.

I guess if you're in for a standard action movie you will enjoy it .

At night we went to piccadilly circus and went to the TGI fridays and got a bunch of bizarre cocktails next to our awesome burgers. Since it's virtually impossible to get any good burger in the netherlands i will go out of my way to eat burgers when I'm on vacation.
I got some amazing pictures of an Oreo-type cocktail but not here so I'll try to get those soon.

It was pretty good and again didn't have to pay for dinner because i run like god in CCR.
At night we watched some more eps of It's always funny in philly.

On Tuesday we were flying back and Denny got some breakfast with one of those girls and Denny was (as always) just in the nick of time so we could get our cab to the airport.

We arrived 35 mins before the plane arrived and could just check in my bags and at the gate they were having a last call for our flight. All in all we made it good in time and the trip was awesome!
(I omitted a story on how Denny almost didn't get back home because he didn't have his passport but i'll leave it up to him to tell that).

Going to learn some f or my drivers theory-exam that i have tomorrow, hopefully I'll just pass or it will suck donkeyballs but I only learned about two days for it so hopefully that's enough.

Robin out.

Failed My Driving Test Again!

Posted 10-11-2009 at 01:57 PM by SEABEAST
I last took the driving exam in 2007 - I failed miserably after I nearly knocked over a speeding motorcyclist while changing lanes

After that I had a girlfriend who drove and then when that ended I went on the road for the past 18 months, basically.

So I never really needed or had to chance to take the test again until recently.

I've been practicing quite a bit, and getting a lot better, but I took the test again on Friday and still failed.

I actually got all the hard stuff right - nailed my reverse parallel park, did the driveaway turnarounds correctly and so on.

Basically the guy failed me for being too timid/not driving with enough conviction, he said I should be able to pass soon no problems but I was just not quite confident enough and a little bit too careful.

Turns out I am a nit at driving!

The next day I took my revenge on the STAT (mature age university entrance) test, and I think I did pretty well.

It was a two part test, first part comprehension second part written.

Back in High School I would have done ok in the comprehension and really good in the essays, but ten years of poker and the internet have sharpened my comprehension skills/dulled my writing skills considerably, so I was mostly worried about the written part.

I got lucky though and the two questions I wound up getting to write about were as follows:

a) The knowledge of ones self is the most important type of knowledge there is.

b) The internet, mobile phones and email have given shy people a chance to build relationships that would have previously been impossible.

Obviously, I pretty much hit the jackpot in terms of topics as I think about those things all the time, whereas it could have easily been something about say, politics or the environment, and I would have had a lot less to say.

Other than that, I got my freedom chair and it rules, so comfortable...

Got a new record player too and some really nice speakers.

Poker wise I haven't been playing much because of the tests, but I have been studying and playing a bit of Omaha Hi-Lo (I'm getting absolutely destroyed so far!)

I fell asleep with the new CeroZ video on loop earlier so for a few hours I had all this hi-lo terminology filtering in and out of my dreams, maybe that will help!

I'm pretty determined to beat up to 30/60 even if it takes ages, then I'm going to move on to the other games.

All in all things are good at the moment, staying in the one place and only playing donkaments once a week at most has been great.

I'm taking the driving test again in two weeks, other than that I'm just basically doing whatever I feel like day to day.

DOES THIS CHIP STACK MAKE MY BUTT LOOK BIG??

Posted 10-11-2009 at 12:56 PM by JACK DOG WELCH
DOES THIS CHIP STACK MAKE MY BUTT LOOK BIG??? by Jack Dog Welch

"In the end, if you are still just doing it, you win." - Laird Hamilton

Like many poker players, I first played seriously in college. I began to believe I was one of the best poker players ever to sit down at a card table. I crushed the dorm game - crushed it! - pulling down maybe as much as 40 or 50 dollars a week. Seriously. That was a helpful sum, some 45 years ago. In fact, I played poker and bridge so seriously, I flunked out of school.
My father was not happy. He offered me a choice. I could deal with his - not inexplicable - wrath or I could serve my country...starting tomorrow. He was not bluffing. I figured my odds were better against the Viet Cong. Talk about your prop bets.
Dad, it must be said, was an excellent poker player. Mother tells about the time she found a piece of property upon which to build her dream home. The site was so choice, a bidding war was about to erupt. If she could come up with an unlikely large amount of cash immediately, she could swing the deal. "I might be able to help," Dad said. From his sock drawer, he pulled a roll of bills, approximating his pre-tax annual income. The next day we owned a half-acre field atop a hill.
I joined the U.S. Air Force because the Marine recruiter was out to lunch.
Oh, the irony. Having flunked out of college due primarily to a lack of interest in higher education, I soon found myself in Monterrey, California, at the Defense Language Institute. Assigned to a year-long study of the Czech and Slovak languages. Forty hours of classes weekly, with no option whatsoever of quitting. Failing grades doubtlessly meant a direct flight to Cam Ranh Bay.
At DLI, all governmental agencies studied, even the FBI. Virtually every language around the globe was taught. Including Vietnamese.
We used to joke about the two-week course given to combat troops on their way to the Far East. What could they be teaching you? "Hello." "Goodbye." "Drop your weapons." "Raise your hands." "Surrender or die." "I'll have another beer, please." "I love you."
I still remember how to say "kiss my butt" in Czechoslovakian.
Of course, we played poker. We played a lot of poker. Hour after hour after hour of poker. In those days, the games were mostly 7-card stud and 5-card draw. Dealer's choice, with the occasional wild card, like one-eyed jacks and suicide kings. Stakes varied, usually depending upon how close - or how far - from pay day the game was played.
Games got tougher as the pay period went on. Think of the month as one big MTT, towards the third weekend, most of the weaker players had surrendered their bankrolls. By the end of the month, each barracks was basically spreading a short-handed sit-and-go. The better players had the option of moving up to face higher "ranked" competition. By ranked, I don't mean the PLB. The sargeants had their games, the officer corps had their games, too. The weakest games were among the junior officers, the second lieutenants. Sooner than later, I got my ass kicked. And kicked. And kicked. And kicked. I began to believe I was one of the worst poker players ever to sit down at a card table.
I got beat so bad, I decided poker was not the game for me. I stopped playing.
Fast forward a few decades. I cannot precisely place the blame on Chris Moneymaker. But I did read the best-selling Play Poker Like the Pros by Phil Hellmuth. In the book, Mr. Hellmuth graciously recommended playing on UltimateBet.com. So, I signed up. (After all, the Poker Brat had been voted "Best Poker Tournament Player in the World" in 1997.)
I deposited $50, which was lost almost before I figured out what buttons to click. Just like in the military. Apparently, years away from the tables had not improved my poker skills.
So - what the hell - what did I have to lose? I began to play... gulp... play money games.
Slowly, and then ever more rapidly, I begin to win. And win. And win. Just like in college. Before long I was playing 1000-2000 NLH with a BR beyond 3 million. I had my mojo back.
If you ever have a choice, do not marry a crazy person. My wife wanted me to cash in. When I explained it was not real money, she refused to believe I was even playing poker.
After the divorce, I began to play again for real. I managed to get small deposits on a half-dozen sites. And while I study and study and play and play, I am barely a break-even player. I simply cannot manage the win which allow me to move ahead.
Oh, I did have a big win some months back. A huge win. I finished first in a 12,000 player MTT on PokerStars. There is something very rewarding about sitting alone at a final table with a stack of 18,000,000 chips. I was still admiring my stack when they closed the table.
Unfortunately, the event was a freeroll, which merely served to allow me entry into a future tournament. I placed 36th of 3391 entrants in that MTT. I was feeling pretty good about myself. Back-to-back Jack.
This was about the same time I began to understand the ups and downs of my youthful poker "career." College, where I was a big winner, was small, private, expensive, church-affiliated. Those kids had no idea how to play poker. None whatsoever. The Language Institute, where I was a big loser, was populated with country boys and city slickers, who actually knew how to play the game. Some of them might not have even cheated. They were that good.
My own skills, to use the term loosely, never changed. I was bad when I won, I was bad when I lost. My game remained the same, while the results depended upon my opponents' skills and the fall of the cards.
Today, I improve incrementally, glacially. Seems everybody who survives online improves, too. So, gradual improvement almost seems -EV. To be successful, we must get better faster. We must be open to new ideas.
As winners, we must realize we might not be as good as we think we are.
As losers, we have to understand why we lose.
And when we do win, we have to make sure the victory is worth achieving.

brief update

Posted 10-11-2009 at 03:36 AM by tedjam
Its sunday afternoon in the land of Oz, I just woke up after a 24 hour tourny grinding session. Cant catch a break atm, over my last 4 cashes have been 27th 12 th(i threw away) 19th and 28th where i rocked a short stack in both till i finally had an average stack then lost AKvsA3 FML (turn 3 river 3) gg 19th and AQvs55 ggnh28th. 19th and 28 are small money bubbles too. then this moroning i lost 3 buy ins at 50nl, playing 38/30 over 210 hands. I probably needed to take a break rather than playing while in bed.

Anyway i am considering playing live tonight. but meh ESPN wsop is on and I wanna see who from leggo is on this week. I have a bad habit of losing my cool at other players and while that is the case ill be stuck here at 50nl for a long time, or worse drop to 25nl. I mean if they are bad write a note and exploit if the wanna call u down multiple streets with 12 % equity then so be it. its these ppl that put money into poker. as i was playing i opr'd these droolers have like 3 -7 k scores and are small losers life time. im down 200 on stars with an ITM of 24% though im up 3k on full tilt. however i just wanna win won on stars for 2k to get the monkey off my back. Rewatched seabeasts 750k win and he was down to 10bb so I tried to balance staying alive and accumulating (im either to lose or too tight I think im getting close to the balance, because last month i had lots of 120-70 finishes this month more in the 12-50.

well kids good luck to those playing the sundays. I should hire myhself out as a stack builder, however back to 33 tournys for me

Beach Party Trip Report, Food, Truck, Craziness...

Posted 10-11-2009 at 12:41 AM by lostinthesaus
So last night I got picked up by these friends:

Miguel and Monica and we drove an hour to Todos Santos, a surf town on the pacific side that had the sickest beaches. This town is famous for hosting the "Hotel California" immortalized by the Eagles. We arrived at what was supposed to be a SICK ass party. We didn't arrive until 2 a.m though and there were about 30 people there. I was like WTF?

Then, these Scandies quickly picked me out because I was speaking English:

They told me that this American guy they met in La Paz (who, ironically enough, I had met about 10 hours earlier at a cafe as well and knew he was either drunk or crazy) had picked them up and offered to take them to this party. I don't know how he knew of it but the told me as he was driving them there he proceeded to drink two bottles of tequila and threaten to kill them. He started off fine and then went straight to stabbing his dashboard with a screwdriver while driving with them and explaining how he is going to kill them by stabbing them just like this. They said they flipped out and jumped out of the car right as they arrived to the party and told the rest of the people this fucker was going to kill them. The people at the party did not know this fuckin stupid American and when they approached him, he took off his clothes and started to burn them (lol what?). He then jumped back in his car and started slamming into all the other parked cars at the party. Since this was a beach well off the beaten path, the police took about an hour to arrive and went on a car chase with this guy. We haven't heard about him since. But apparantly about 2/3rds of the party called it a wrap and took their cars to home to get begin getting fixed, or to gather up the possy and go on a hunt-down.

I This guy is lucky I was not there because I met him and although he was larger than most, he was not larger than me, and I would have insta taken this dude out.

I'll give a lot of credit to these few who remained because they kept right on partying. I also am really starting to see the pr problems a few stupid americans can cause for the rest of us. Don't worry though, I salvaged what I could of our PR with these scandies/

Back to pics:

Some cute girls (was jockin the one in pink) and sick dj set up imo.

The party winding down just before sunrise. It was strange because my body is so programmed to feel cold when I am 1) at a beach. 2) at a beach at night but make no mistake although a few are in sleeping bags its still 80 at 5 a.m. and the water temperature feels warmer than the air so fucking weird!

Beach at sunrise:

Picture of dent in my jeep from cow. Will have an after picture tomorrow from repair.

Finally some of the food I have made for me. 1 o'clock camarones a la diabla. shrimp with a creamy chipotle sauce. 6 o'clock chile rajas. roasted chiles sliced and mixed with cream and corn. 9 o'clock - Bistec Ranchera. Steak with onions, tomatoes and cheese. Ship it all day long:

Okay so the dentist experience has not been a pleasant one. I sported the Leggo T-shirt today and everything. We had to stop the whitening because of some intense pain it caused. Right on the brochure it states that about 1 out of 20 people cannot do this do to a sensitivity caused by the ph balance of the enamel on the teeth. 1 out of 20 run bad at this? Yeah that sounds exactly right. That's me then. GG. So I am rescheduled to return next week to try the 2nd method. It was impossible for me to sit there and cry like bitch (not literally) and feel like I'm wasting her time and money and then be like, "oh, I know Im a fuckin puss but can I get a picture with you?" All Aboard!!

I had my driving test yesterday, I failed. I'm not going to dwell too much on failure. I like to think there is no such thing, rather only what you do and don't do. What you don't do you invariably regret more than the outcome of whatever you do do so every 'do' in a sense is a success. Yay for success.

Lately I've been very lazy with poker. After moving in to the new place (pics to come when I find my camera) I've basically been a complete bum. Anyway this has involved eating out every day, going out probably 4-5 nights of the week and keeping terrible sleeping hours. This can't continue so I'm setting a target of 30k hands for the month (played a miserable 4k so far). Bearing in mind I don't play any more than 6 tables nowadays (and usually 4 or less) this is a decent few hours. I'm also going to try my hardest to get in shape, I was doing quite well in the month leading up to moving but it's gone rapidly downhill since then.

I have a few interesting things lined up for leggo. Firstly I'm starting private coaching again and will be coaching PLO as well as NLHE for anyone that is interested. I won't be making any PLO videos. Secondly, I will have a NL video out by the end of the month. Thirdly, I have two strategy articles lined up for the forum, one is psychology related and the other is to do with live poker. I'm writing all this down here to a) keep you all informed, and allow any suggestions. b) set myself some sort of timeplan for doing things, I figure if I write it in my blog I have to prioritise it a little!

I watched In Bruges the other day, it's a great film and I highly recommend it. Colin Farrell is immense.

One more thing, obligatory calldown hh. Gotta put these high stakes hu sng players in their place sometimes:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, 1030 Tournament, 10/20 Blinds (2 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

BB (t1610)
Hero (SB) (t1390)

Hero's M: 46.33

Preflop: Hero is SB with J, 10
Hero bets t40, BB calls t20

Flop: (t80) 6, Q, 5 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets t50, BB raises to t175, Hero calls t125

Turn: (t430) 3 (2 players)
BB bets t285, Hero calls t285

River: (t1000) A (2 players)
BB bets t890, Hero calls t890 (All-In)

Total pot: t2780

Results:
Hero had J, 10 (high card, Ace).
BB had 7, 8 (high card, Ace).
Outcome: Hero won t2780

Gl all,
Rob.

I am on a nice little heater this month.

I plugged a pretty decent sized leak and it's making poker easier. Hopefully the run good continues for another few K hands.
