teh live poker rulz

Posted 03-24-2009 at 05:40 AM by Donkadocus
Still running hot live, looking at my last three months results I am beating the £1/£1 for 10 Big Bets per hour (better money than menial job!). I am up £4k straight since Xmas. Tax free this is decent £ on top of my job, which is good because I was given a pay cut last week

My internet connection has been ropey for a few weeks so not really played online but won a BI over 500 hands yesterday; although should have been more. I dropped $50 overplaying 88 on a low flop and then squeezed a tight player with AA after two callers and got it in on the 4c4d3c flop against a total fish who put $9 in pre flop with Jc2c and then his remaining $8.75 on the flop and turned a flush (and I even had the redraw). Also made a sick call with KQ on a 5d4d5h3h9c board which was good.

Still need to play more volume but I know I can beat NL50 now.

Salmagundi #4: Moved In, Office, Weight Loss, PLO8

Updated 03-24-2009 at 04:24 AM by IcyPots
I was planning to write quite a few blog updates last week since I wasn't playing much poker, but the warm weather was too convincing and I spent the last few days at my old house laying out by the pool for most of the day. Without a doubt, our swimming pool is the thing that I'm going to miss the most about our old house, as our new place just has a bunch of rocks in the back yard. Plus I droppped $300 last summer on a pool basketball hoop, which is now just sitting in our garage.

However, I'm glad to say that the move is done and I'm very happy with the new house. It was just going to be me, Anthony, and Katie at first, but our friend Dan is going to tentatively be staying with us depending upon whether or not he can get a good job here in Vegas. And then in the Fall my old college basketball teamate, Jared, is probably going to move in as well. We have five bedrooms, so the more the merrier in my opinion.

Oh, and I now have an official Las Vegas address instead of Henderson. It may seem trivial(and it probably is), but it makes me happy, haha.

Since I'm the only one in the house with a desktop, our office is pretty much my second room. I've been throwing decorating ideas back and forth in my head, and I think I want to do a basketball theme. I've been looking around on various sites online, and it seems to me that allposters.com has by far the biggest and best selection. So far two posters in particular have stuck out to me:

WILT AND RUSSELL

MAGIC AND BIRD

That site sells 20x24 posters for around $60, and I can get it framed and single matted for around an additional $100. Thats a tad bit more than I had hoped for as I want 4 or 5 total posters, but I was hoping to keep it under $500 total. But if I really like the end product, then I won't mind it. I never did realize how expensive framing and matting can be, but it really does make the posters look a lot better plus it adds a lot of size to the actual picture.

One thing that has really disappointed me is the lack of quality modern day basketball posters. As you can see in those links, the older generation NBA posters have some really good action shots of superstars facing off. However, with today's posters all I can seem to find is glitzy and colorful posters that look like they belong in a 10 year old kid's room. I would love to be able to find a good action shot of Duncan vs KG, Kobe vs Shaq, or Lebron vs Wade. The best I could find was this one featuring LEBRON AND CARMELO, but I feel that if I have Bird, Magic, Wilt, Russell, Lebron, and Carmelo on my walls then Carmelo will stick out like a sore thumb. I'd much much rather have Wade/Lebron. The closest I could fine was THIS ONE with all three of them, but I'd much prefer an action shot.

Also whats the deal with Michael Jordan not having any widely available posters? I remember as a kid, his name wouldn't appear in some video games even though every other NBA player was included(it would just be "#23" for him). Does he have a different liscensing contract than the rest of the NBA player's association or something?

Also, as a Terps fan, I absolutely love THIS, but it says that its only available for pickup in person. I may have to contact them and see if they can make an exception for me.

EDITED TO ADD: It seems like I can get these things much cheaper on Ebay. For example, HERE I can get the Magic/Bird 16x20 photo for only $10. I'd have to do the framing myself though.

I hadn't been playing much poker, and my PokerStars account was all the way down to $3000 the other day. Once I got moved in, I bought a $4000 bonus from the FPP store and started playing more often. The goal is to get my account up to $30K, transfer $15K over to FullTilt, and then just play the shorthanded high stakes PLO8 games. I've decided that I really don't want to be a "grinder" full time, and I think I'm definitely good enough to make a solid profit from the higher stakes games. For now, its just a matter of getting my online bankroll high enough that I can handle some of the swings. I'm mixing in some occassional $5/10 as I go, but mostly I'm just playing $1/2 and $2/4 as I clear the $4000 bonus. So far, things are going well. I've got my account up to over $6000 in just two days. One of my favorite hands from these sessions:

This is one of those plays where the results are just absolutely 100% what I had hoped for, but even without using hindsight, I think it was a very solid play on my part. I correctly put both players on their hands(well I'm pretty sure BB had the flopped straight, but I guess I"m still not positive), and I correctly assumed that the BB would have to fold to my river bet, the other villian would call down with a naked low, and I could quarter him.

My biggest win from the sessions came here:

PokerStars Game #26287835927: Omaha Hi/Lo Pot Limit ($5/$10) - 2009/03/23 18:51:30 ET
Table 'Mitlincoln IV' 6-max Seat #4 is the button
Seat 3: zky5 ($249.50 in chips)...

Road to supernova-Poker Stars first impressions

Posted 03-23-2009 at 09:24 PM by ultrasPNT
Impression 1: I will reach supernova by the end of the year.
Impression 2: This web site has pretty colors.
Impression 3: I need to play better and be stronger, faster, smarter.
Impression 4: Thank you for the huge 50$ bonus now I can retire happy and thank you for not extending my deposit limit you *******s !!
Impression 5: I never took that many cooler/bad beats in 13k hands ever in my life, thank you for that, they WILL help me with Impression 3.
Impression 6: Stick to za plan stick to za discipline it can be easy to fish on the stars lake.

Anyways here is a challenge: I challenge one pro, any pro, form the leggo team to beat me at nl100 6max for the first 25000 hands they play at this stake on stars or fulltilt so it can be fair and to compare the results on table ratings. The guy that loses(the guy that wins less BB's on 25k hands) has to pay the other one half of the winnings for that 25k hands sample.

week so far

Posted 03-23-2009 at 07:24 PM by Everytime
So far i put in about 6k hands since friday, went running once, and havent signed up for a gym yet. The good news is i did make some money. I got 81st in the 750k guaranteeed on FTP and that was my best finish in a sunday major so far. Kind of sucks, but it is good confidence for the upcoming SCOOP that i am going to enjoy/ try to compete with good players in. I will try to play most of the medium ones, some small ones, and try to sattellite into a high one if i can. PLO has been going alright i feel like i am improving and figuring out players better, so i expect to continue doing well there.

Friday was a good start to my small challenge. I played a bunch of hands at peak playing hours, ran 4 miles and was just excited to play. Then saturday came and being up until 7am playing fish, I wasnt too glad to hear my friend come in my door at 1 o'clock and get me to start partying/drinking. So since i had no chance of getting back to sleep and not in good mindset for poker i obliged. We ended up drinking beers and watching march madness. Then we started playing some drinking games like ******* and drinking texas holdem with 10 bbs and really started to throw back lots of beers. Then we went out to bars with some friends who came over and started to pound some shots of jack. We all got pretty drunk and thats how i ended up not playing poker on saturday.

Shipped A Sunday Minor

Posted 03-23-2009 at 12:57 PM by SEABEAST
Updated 03-23-2009 at 01:08 PM by SEABEAST
I had a doctor's appointment this morning so I couldn't play most of the Sunday Majors, but I played some of the early first couple of hours stuff since I couldn't sleep - and managed to win the 13:00 $109 freezeout on Stars for $19,540.

It was one of those strange tourneys where not that much really happened, I just never quite busted and somehow managed to be the last guy standing at the end.

Pretty sick stuff I've gotta admit, peeling off from winning a tourney with perfect timing to go off and make it to a doctor's appointment (not trying to brag, it was just one of those "god I run good" moments...)

Sometimes if you set things up the right way they break for you.

And if you're me, this stuff goes in streaks!

My life variance is insane. Life LAG, for sure.

I flew back from Melbourne yesterday, flying business class for the first time.

I slept the whole way so I dunno, judgment reserved on whether it was worth it (I guess with some things I'm a life nit).

I'm sure it would make a bigger difference on international flights, where you get way more uncomfortable and have to eat multiple meals (I slept through my meal anyway).

Melbourne was awesome, basically spent the first two nights drunk around Crown, and the next two drunk around town.

I don't usually drink that often (I'm kinda all or nothing) but it was awesome not caring about the poker at all even though there was a lot on, and just being there purely for fun.

I rekindled some old friendships and feel pretty excited about moving there.

I'm stuck at home for the next few weeks (physically restricted) so I will probably play a lot, though if I'm gonna be honest my heart isn't really in it that much.

I am leading MPLB for the month by a little bit over Moorman and some other sickos, and I have more room for easy improvement than most as I haven't logged many random final tables this month (it counts top 20 scores so if I log a lot of volume I can still gain quite a few points without having to do anything sick, just by virtue of still acquiring quite a few points for making random final tables - whereas a lot of the other guys in the running need genuinely good scores at this point to gain much in replacing their 15-20th best scores)...

It's kinda tempting to just play out the month hardcore, try and ship that for fun and have a real shot at top 10 in the world during SCOOP.

Like I said though, my heart really is elsewhere right now, and I was expecting an extended downswing until I got lucky today.

We'll see what happens though, if I keep running like this playing won't be too painful

dtd prob wont happen in april

Posted 03-23-2009 at 09:14 AM by salfi123
well i really wanted to do dtd in april but its not looking good cause my horse is away on holiday and my buddy neptune is playin scoop. i really wanted to go back and give the 330 donkfest a real shot again cause the field is rediculously soft even though it hosts most the uk heavy weights its diluted by dead money in general. might play some of the low buy in scoop events just to brake the usual routine. not sure yet. today gotta do all the stuff like bank, shops and general excersize of leaving the house to walk to these places(only excersize i get now apart from footy every other friday)

Zero to 1,000,000 Day 38

Posted 03-23-2009 at 07:13 AM by teamgreen
Current Level: 5/10

Another great day, got hu against a really bad player and thats where most of my profit came from.
Did lose a 40-60 all in on flop when I had odds, but was kinda spewy as I knew he had AA and I guess I shoulda folded pre. Also lost a huge favorite where I got in with two pair vs and underpair and runner runner, and he hit his 2 outs+ that he had. Did get lucky hu though, got in with top two and flush draw vs same top two and overcards, and I hit my flush to scoop it . Woooooo.

10/20 here I come!! jeez almost came up too fast. Through all the other levels I wouldn't have minded, I think this one is gonna be the big jump cuz I think the players will be mostly regulars and solid now. Thats not to say that I can't beat it, we'll see, I think alot of regs are very very exploitable, especially ones multitabling. I only played 3 table today, may cut it down to 2 for 10/20. The higher I play the more I like to focus on each individual player.
