I was planning to write quite a few blog updates last week since I wasn't playing much poker, but the warm weather was too convincing and I spent the last few days at my old house laying out by the pool for most of the day. Without a doubt, our swimming pool is the thing that I'm going to miss the most about our old house, as our new place just has a bunch of rocks in the back yard. Plus I droppped $300 last summer on a pool basketball hoop, which is now just sitting in our garage.
However, I'm glad to say that the move is done and I'm very happy with the new house. It was just going to be me, Anthony, and Katie at first, but our friend Dan is going to tentatively be staying with us depending upon whether or not he can get a good job here in Vegas. And then in the Fall my old college basketball teamate, Jared, is probably going to move in as well. We have five bedrooms, so the more the merrier in my opinion.
Oh, and I now have an official Las Vegas address instead of Henderson. It may seem trivial(and it probably is), but it makes me happy, haha.
Since I'm the only one in the house with a desktop, our office is pretty much my second room. I've been throwing decorating ideas back and forth in my head, and I think I want to do a basketball theme. I've been looking around on various sites online, and it seems to me that allposters.com has by far the biggest and best selection. So far two posters in particular have stuck out to me:
WILT AND RUSSELL
MAGIC AND BIRD
That site sells 20x24 posters for around $60, and I can get it framed and single matted for around an additional $100. Thats a tad bit more than I had hoped for as I want 4 or 5 total posters, but I was hoping to keep it under $500 total. But if I really like the end product, then I won't mind it. I never did realize how expensive framing and matting can be, but it really does make the posters look a lot better plus it adds a lot of size to the actual picture.
One thing that has really disappointed me is the lack of quality modern day basketball posters. As you can see in those links, the older generation NBA posters have some really good action shots of superstars facing off. However, with today's posters all I can seem to find is glitzy and colorful posters that look like they belong in a 10 year old kid's room. I would love to be able to find a good action shot of Duncan vs KG, Kobe vs Shaq, or Lebron vs Wade. The best I could find was this one featuring
LEBRON AND CARMELO, but I feel that if I have Bird, Magic, Wilt, Russell, Lebron, and Carmelo on my walls then Carmelo will stick out like a sore thumb. I'd much much rather have Wade/Lebron. The closest I could fine was
THIS ONE with all three of them, but I'd much prefer an action shot.
Also whats the deal with Michael Jordan not having any widely available posters? I remember as a kid, his name wouldn't appear in some video games even though every other NBA player was included(it would just be "#23" for him). Does he have a different liscensing contract than the rest of the NBA player's association or something?
Also, as a Terps fan, I absolutely love
THIS, but it says that its only available for pickup in person. I may have to contact them and see if they can make an exception for me.
EDITED TO ADD: It seems like I can get these things much cheaper on Ebay. For example,
HERE I can get the Magic/Bird 16x20 photo for only $10. I'd have to do the framing myself though.
I hadn't been playing much poker, and my PokerStars account was all the way down to $3000 the other day. Once I got moved in, I bought a $4000 bonus from the FPP store and started playing more often. The goal is to get my account up to $30K, transfer $15K over to FullTilt, and then just play the shorthanded high stakes PLO8 games. I've decided that I really don't want to be a "grinder" full time, and I think I'm definitely good enough to make a solid profit from the higher stakes games. For now, its just a matter of getting my online bankroll high enough that I can handle some of the swings. I'm mixing in some occassional $5/10 as I go, but mostly I'm just playing $1/2 and $2/4 as I clear the $4000 bonus. So far, things are going well. I've got my account up to over $6000 in just two days. One of my favorite hands from these sessions:

This is one of those plays where the results are just absolutely 100% what I had hoped for, but even without using hindsight, I think it was a very solid play on my part. I correctly put both players on their hands(well I'm pretty sure BB had the flopped straight, but I guess I"m still not positive), and I correctly assumed that the BB would have to fold to my river bet, the other villian would call down with a naked low, and I could quarter him.
