Stupid phones

Posted 12-05-2008 at 09:04 PM by DODGYKEN
It's been one of my longest blog breaks. I've not been playing that much over the last few weeks. I had a pretty crappy early November (read; good lower limits, bad higher limits) and just didn't feel much like playing recently. I'm taking steps to get back into playing more though and I'm hoping to be back in grind mode pretty soon.

I've been hanging out with friends a lot recently which is good as I have a tendency to become a recluse when I'm grinding a lot. One funny thing that happened recently down the pub... (apologies to any friends/family that don't enjoy this story)...

One of my best friends, Andy, has a girlfriend called Lauren who pretty much always comes out when he comes out. Well a week or so ago we were in the pub and I was putting some songs on the jukebox (much to most people's dismay) and when I got back to our table everyone had this weird look on their face. I did my best Jack Bauer-esque interrogation and found out that Andy's phone had been passed around to look at some pictures from a recent night out, someone had scrolled too far and seen some comprising pictures of his girlfriend, Lauren. Well they quickly got passed around (naturally) but I missed them because I was at the jukebox.

Anyway, a few days later I met up with Andy again and he mentioned that another friend had sent some joke messages to Lauren later that night about sending him more pictures. We were all talking about this at first and then forgot about it and got on with the night. A couple of hours later I decided it'd be hilarious to send the text "Send me flange pics now" to Lauren's phone. (For the record, it would've been pretty funny in the context of conversation we were having and the timing of it).

Well I got no reply. So I assumed her phone was in her bag or summit. So the next time she went to the bar I mentioned it to Andy and asked him to try and get her to look at her phone. Another half an hour passed by and I finally got a text back from Lauren saying "What?". She was sat right next to me so I turned and laughed at her and she gave me this total blank look.

So I'm like "Yeah, you just sent me that text.", and she's going "Erm...what?!". Hmmmm. So after a couple of minutes of me trying to figure out what the hell's going on, I finally work out that the Lauren in my phone isn't the Lauren sat next to me. My first thought is that it's weird and a bit annoying. My second thought is that I sent the text, "Send flange pics now" to some random girl that I haven't spoken to for years.

To cut an already long and boring story short, I ended up working out it was another friend's ex-girlfriend's number, and I ended up saying I was a different Martin who's one of our mutual friends! It was pretty funny at the time, and I can't wait till this Martin and her bump into her the next time!

1st ever blog entry!!!

Posted 12-05-2008 at 08:45 PM by sh58
hi, my name is stefan, i have been a pro poker player about 14 months now, and have wanted to start a blog for a while, but have never got round to it

i thought this would be a good time, so i can lay down some december goals and with the blog as a record, not squirm out of them like i usually do

i was playing 5/10 a few months ago, but then cashed out most of my roll to start new accounts and ground my way up on them from NL100 with about 2k on each of the new accounts. unfotunately i have run pretty bad since i started that project midway through july 08 and progress has been pretty slow

i was on the verge of being a 5/10 reg again when i hit a 35 buyin downswing from 2/4-5/10 and i have only just recovered. my roll is pretty good again at 58k, but i want to book a month at 2/4 and 3/6 now before i jump into the 5/10 games again.

my goal is to play 75k hands this month, which is pretty ambitious considering my previous record is only 60k and i have to cope with christmas.

so far i am roughly on track, and the results have been good so far this month. i cross my fingers that they will be as impressive at the end of the month. i have been playing 6-12 tables of 2/4 and 3/6 on FTP in the afternoons, and then been 6-8 tabling 3/6 on ipoker in the evenings (the ipoker software is too annoying to 12 table on in my experience)

pre-re-view

Posted 12-05-2008 at 06:40 PM by nogatsira
Yupyup, already a review comming up before I even finished the book.
I managed to read the first 33 pages today before I could finaly put in a little session.

The bible from Bobbo reads really well. It's intresting to see that a lot of very good concepts are so easy but unknown to many people. After 33 pages I already got another look on the game of poker itself and I look at every hand somewhat differently.

The main thing I wanted to talk about right now is the costprize: $750.
-"omg, $750 for a book, written by a non-professional writer"
-"should i spend that much money when it's a huge portion of my roll?!"
-" ... "

Many questions in the forum about the book are of these kind. Let me put it simple:
*If you think $750 for this book is expensive, then you need it the most*
Ok .. I guess I didn't put it simple so I'll explain.
These concepts and explanations that are explained in the book are SO important that if you don't know them, you're either burning money or leaving a lot of money behind.
That beeing said, the book is WAY underprized and I assume $750 is just a prize Bobbo felt he could ask for it and that whats his time and effort was worth.

Truthfully, it's unpriceable, cause the amount of money you'll be able to make afterwards will be skyhigh (depending on volume and stakes of course)

Little example:
1. after reading the book I learned an important concept (not going to teach you the concepts here for free though ;-))
2. load up 9 tables to play a short session
3. ?????
4. profit

Result:
the book is payed back in like 20?! minutes
(some run good comes a long with it, but I guess you see what I mean)

sidenote: Bobbo did NOT ask me to write anything like this, I am writing this cause this book needs some love and those who're willing to learn should just pay the man for his efforts and profit themself!

im going to wank now and read a bit more in the bible in my bed afterwards

South Carolina Vacation - Day 2

Posted 12-05-2008 at 04:43 PM by thac
So day 2 rolls around, and I don't remember what we did earlier in the day, but we went to the liquor store around 6:45 to get vodka for the jello shots. Justin grabs the 100 proof instead of the 80 proof, I think he did it on purpose. So we get back and Bob (bobboufl11) is in Zak's room and we decide we want pizza. We call Domino's, they say it'll be an hour.. we call Papa John's and they were only gonna take 30 mins so we got that and ate it. After, I saw a sick good 25/50 game but didn't wanna be in a bad mood after I lost, so I just watched it and waited until it was time to go bowling.

There were 9 of us bowling, so Justin, Bob and I bet against Zak, his roommate Brandon and his friend Samantha. I obviously sucked the first game and rolled like an 85, and we lost our $30. We did a double-or-nothing with 40 pins. We smoked them, every one of us bowled higher than they did. Justin rolled a 165, and I bowled a 141, Bob had something in the area of mine too. It was pretty clutch. So we broke even, and went to Wal-Mart to get stuff for the party.

Arriving at Wal-Mart, we get like 20 jugs of hawaiian punch, and a bunch of Jello packets and everything.. and then we got to the Christmas section. I saw a Santa suit, and determined that I needed to get it. Then I bought like $50 of Christmas lights for the inside. We're currently coercing a girl to put all the lights up. So after Wal-Mart, we came back here, and unpacked all of our stuff. I grinded out $1500 or something. We eventually went to IHOP and had the ****tiest service ever. I got the pancake platter and after we got back I passed out immediately at 5am.

---

Currently going to the liquor store for alcohol for tonight, then coming back here to grind some more.

Lost a 600bb pot just now, so I'm kinda numb atm.

Some Very Ambitious Goals

Posted 12-05-2008 at 03:34 PM by MYNAMEIZGREG
Goals don't have to be huge to be effective or to accomplish what they need to. As it usually pans out though, my long term goals always aim for the fences. Also, note that these are my non-business (read: not Leggo) goals because I need to keep all of those locked up!

Short Term Goals

Don't get drunk for the rest of December after finishing the semester - I am going to most likely get drunk a few times in between now and when I leave for home. After that, I will be seeing lots of my friends in social settings, but I am not going to have more than a couple drinks through the course of the night. This goal is primarily in place because I want to lose a couple pounds both preemptively before the Holiday Season and for self-absorbed views of what I think I look like and what I want to look like.

Do aerobic exercise three times a week in December - In my plan to lose a couple pounds, cardio sounds like a good idea. However, I want to up my cardiovascular endurance for health (ie it's great for your heart) reasons as well.

Lose a couple pounds - For official purposes I'll add this in here. I don't have number goals because I've always based short term weight loss off the mirror (yes I know about the appearance of slimming from loss of water weight/depletion of glycogen stores) so that's the plan here.

Somewhere in between Term Goals

Achieve a level 50 in a Halo 3 playlist. - I am putting this as a middle term goal because I don't think I'll be bringing my Xboxs (plural, heh) back home over break. Therefore, if this doesn't happen in the next week, it won't happen until late Jan/Feb. I am currently a 41 in Lone Wolves and 38 in Team Slayer.

Long Term Goals

Win $200k at $5/$10 and $10/$20 PLO - Basically, my plan for Omaha is to make $200k, take a couple weeks off to analyze the $25/$50 PLO games, and then plunge into those. Psychologically this is better for me because I feel like money I make from NLHE should either be used for NLHE or withdrawn, and it would be "wasteful" to "spend" it on learning PLO. So, when I get the $200k mark that will be enough for a full time shot at $25/$50. I am giving myself 6 months to do this because I can only 4 table so I'm averaging like 300 hands/hr.

Gain 15 pounds of muscle and lose 2-4% body fat - I am giving myself 12 months to do this. I will never be able to get into the full life routine that I want to while still in school, so my diet and exercise won't be ideal until I graduate. Plus, there are trips like Atlantis, and living in Vegas that still stall this plan as well. I estimate myself to weigh around 190-195 and probably be around 13-15% body fat, so I'm looking to get to 205-210 at 11-13% body fat. Still certainly not a cupcake goal.

Finish my secret Leggo project - I know I said these goals are supposed to be non-Leggo based, but this isn't really business model-esque in its nature. Therefore, finish this by June 2009.

Well, look like 2009 will be busy. What a surprise!

First!

Posted 12-05-2008 at 01:16 PM by cntgetmedown
Hi Guys! My name is Daniell Ozobia and I go by the alias of "cntgetmedown". I'm very excited to have been invited into the circle of Leggo Poker Pros and hope I can do a good job of it.

In my blog I'll try and blog a little bit about the ups and downs of poker and also the life of a college student.

I guess I'll start off with a brief intro of myself. I know there is already a description of me under the "Coaches" section, but I'll just ad a little to it.
I started playing poker in the Summer of 05 a friend of mine told me about this german training site called Pokerstrategy where you can get free 50$ to play poker with on the internet. I basically didn't think much of poker at the time. I was brought up somewhat religously one could say, so any "form of gambling" was evil in some way. Anyways my friend kept on nagging me about it, as it is his nature about all kind of things in life, and I finally took a shot at it. You had to actually study poker fundamentals before you were allowed to apply for the free money so I did that and passed their quiz, which earned me my free 50$ on Party Poker. I started playing Limit Holdem at micro stakes untill I finally moved up to .5/1 where I hit my first downsing or atleast what I thought was one at the time.
I was pretty demotivated at the time, not being used to so called variance. Everything I had done up to that date had a learning process that involved failing as you doing something wrong and succeeding as you doing something right. Which may or may not be the case with poker.
It was at this point that I somehow ended up overhearing a conversation about an American NLH player named Sbrugby that was crushing.
I found a link to his "In The Well" post on 2+2 and avidly read it. I instantly knew I wanted to become the next Sbrugby! I started reading through the SSNL sticky and switched to NL 5$ on PP. It was also at this time that I made my first cash out. I wanted to know whether the money I was playing with was actually real, before I invested a lot of time into this new project of mine.
I fairly quickly moved up to NL 50 where I had some troubles with making it to the next step of NL 100. However I resolved these problems fairly quickly by posting a lot on 2+2 and working on my game whenever I could.
I believe it was late 07 when I started making decent money off of Poker at NL 200 that I decide this way better than bartending due to the flexibility of the job and the money that could be earned on an hourly basis that I decided to take a small risk and see if I could survive solely off of poker money. This turned out well for me and since then I have been cashing out on a regular basis and been making an effort to move up through the stakes.
I currently grind 2/4 and 3/6 across various sites on the internet. I'm working hard on my game and trying to hopefully soon move up to 5/10 and higher.

So, that's just a slightly more detailed version of what is written up in my profile. I'd be glad to elaborate further if anybody has any questions on this. Otherwise welcome to my blog :P. I hope I can try and find some fun/interesting content for it.

12/04 session review

Posted 12-05-2008 at 11:19 AM by Brainwasher
Updated 12-10-2008 at 11:36 AM by Brainwasher
Yesterday's session was very good, except for one spot where I think that I spewed. Almost no interesting hands (from bigger pots). Here's teh graph:

HAND #1

Bodog $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em - 5 players

BTN: $34.40
SB: $24.14
BB: $61.90
Hero (UTG): $32.05
CO: $63.93

Pre Flop: ($0.35) Hero is UTG with 9 9
Hero raises to $1.00, 3 folds, BB raises to $1.75, Hero calls $0.75

Flop: ($3.60) 6 5 4 (2 players)
BB bets $0.25, Hero raises to $2.50, BB raises to $6.05, Hero raises to $30.30 all in, BB calls $24.25

Turn: ($64.20) J (2 players - 1 is all in)

River: ($64.20) K (2 players - 1 is all in)

Final Pot: $64.20
BB shows 8 7
Hero shows 9 9
BB wins $63.20
(Rake: $1.00)

This is the hand where I think that I spewed away buyin. Villain was 47/28/3 over 21 hands sample which doesn't say anything, but from some examples I knew that he was monkey and maniac. Because he shoved like in 5 hands out of 20 he played. Anyway I will put this hand in leggo forum and 2+2.

Weekend goals:
-play 2k hands
-watch 2 6max videos

Work ethic?

Posted 12-05-2008 at 03:31 AM by LT22
I've already got 23hrs in this month! Not bad when the previous best is about 100. Not running as well as I would like, but luckily most of the run bad is happening at 1/2 and 2/4 is going well.

It seems every little problem has begun to agitate me. Doesn't really matter if it's a hot running fish, software problems, a small misclick...it's been bothering me today. This is usually when I take a break, but I'm going to grind through it instead of being mentally weak. Looking to put in a solid weekend of work since I don't think we have any major plans.

Most everybody I know is in school and this time of the year is definitely hectic. My last "crunch time" for school was in mid-April, but it feels like so long ago that I don't know if I can even remember just how stressful the end of a semester truly is on students. NOT looking forward to going back to graduate school in the future.

Our mentor, Stacysmom001, returned from Argentina recently and is staying here this week. It's nice to have him around. His presence has definitely increased the amount of poker being played and poker being discussed in the condo.
