Played for 4.5 hours, got in 2.1K hands today, and lost 3bi. Made some crazy plays and just got way to out of line in general. Meh, this always happens when I run good. I just need to rein it in and collect on the image I have created.

Making good progress, biggest pot ever!

Posted 07-17-2008 at 10:39 PM by oly3455
Currently grinding it up at 25nl on FTP and Stars. For some reason, I am beating Stars at a considerably higher rate (28bb/100 over 1375 hands) than I am FTP (0.51bb/100 over 1655 hands lol). So, through about 3000 total hands in the past week I am up 8 buy-ins total, a pretty good start I think. I may be running a touch on the nitty side (about 20/15) but that's probably a product of not being completely comfortable with postflop play and hand reading at this point. Hopefully with more work I will only have better results. I did take down a couple large pots this evening, interstingly enough on FTP. Thoughts on the play are appreciated, but for now I'm just happy I shipped the monies .

July 17th, To Wynn Again! (And another break)

Posted 07-17-2008 at 04:39 PM by BobboFitos
This is going to be short, because, well, there isn't much to say. Essentially, in terms of life, I'm on yet another break w/ Noelle. I am not "meeting her needs," (which is a f'ing joke) so we're not together right now. (Super standard, this has happened about 12 times the past 18 months) Tonight I'm probably going to Tryst to celebrate that.

Last night I played a sesh at the Wynn - there was no 10-20 going, but there was a 25-50 100 game that actually looked pretty good. When I sat down there was no one good I recognized - it was a 5 handed game with one dude who was an obv donator. Well, sorta donator. He was supposed to be terrible but managed to play decently. The other guys were decent and certainly not bad but not remarkable either.

Funny enough, the game was super tight passive (even with the button ante) and I think in games like that, people just give each other credit for how THEY'RE playing. As in, if you're in an aggressive game where everyone is 4betting each other, people will assume you do the same, even if you're very snug. If you're playing in a game where everyone postflop is calling down w/ any pair, people assume you do the same. So, in a tight passive (nitty) game people will think you play the same way (until proven otherwise I suppose). This is good and bad for me, clearly depending on the type of game! I happen to love somewhat tight passive games for obvious reasons.

3 other guys throughout the course of the night (only played about a 3.5 hour sesh?) sat down, including JMC (who I'm not sure if he recognized me, even though we've played both online and live together) and another live pro who seemed VERY good. (so the game got a bit worse) Also a Serbian sportsbettor who bet on corner field goals in soccer (?) who wasn't that good but not awful. There were literally no big pots played - everyone was limping (well, rarely limping, mainly just folding) there were a total of 4 3bets, and I dare say it was a little boring. Just wasn't faced with a single tough decision. There were 2 very frustrating hands of the night though:

1. I open limp while 6handed 33 UTG, and the entire table comes along. The fish is on my left. Flop comes K 9 3 w/ 2 diamonds (400 in there) and the blinds check so I bet 325. The fishy guy thought for a second and folded a K faceup. (no joke ) No idea what I did wrong! He did say "I think you have aces".
2. I opened AA 5handed (I actually got a big pair, it was my 1 time!) in the CO to 200, and the BB called. He was an Iranian dude with goofy hair who was playing pretty well, although in an earlier pot he claimed he thought I was stealing (yet obv didn't do anything about it). Flop came T 9 4 w/ 2 clubs (1 diamond) and I had the Ac/Ad. He check called 350 into 525. Turn came a 2d, he check called 900 into 1225. River came the Tc (worst card in the deck) and he led for 500. Uhh, ok, I call. He flips over QQ. Wow, really? I get AA to QQ while 5handed in a supposedly aggro game and he check calls twice and donks tiny on the river?

I was able to steal a fair share of blinds which certainly added up, to the point that I made 3.5k on the sesh, but it didn't feel all that great. I suppose "3.5 of 10" for my end of Vegas goal.

Christina is coming tonight to cook Shrimp, Orzo, soup/salad/garlic bread, which is great, since it's been a solid 2 weeks since we've had her cook for us. Also, I just found out Cory went to Culinary School and is a professional French chef. (or something to that extent) sooooo... He hopefully will cook for us too!

That's about it for now I think.

Stopwatch Challenge

Posted 07-17-2008 at 06:53 AM by Probability
Now that I am back from Vegas I will be implementing my 4 hour a day 5 days a week playing schedule. I feel this is better than a certain number of hands since I wont feel the need to aggressively multitable. I will be prop betting this with a couple people who would like to hit the same numbers as me. Funny how I am forcing myself into a 20 hour work week. What a joke. Sitting here now I think I will do the 4 hours a day for a week or so, and then add an hour a day.

TIME TO PLAY

Posted 07-17-2008 at 01:05 AM by Probability
Well, I am back and I have to make money. I just made my girl leave so I could focus on a video or two and then get a session in. I feel like my game is very good right now, but I could easily lose due to overconfidence. My image is so bad right now vs just about any player on my site, I could probably just play 16/15 and get paid for a week or so.

I aimed with Tickner quite a bit today. I am very happy about where Leggo is going and what we are doing to compensate members for the lack of videos over the last week or so. I must admit my confidence was shaken for a bit, but all is right with the world now. Leggo is going to prove members are the only priority over the next month or so. I hope we announce the new pros soon.

only 2 exams left, one last paper to write. then these summer classes are over. i hope i run good in the exams. i loathe statistics so much and the final 8 chapters might as well be written in swedish, i guess thats what i get for skipping class to go golfing. a bit of pressure for these exams, i am entering both exams with a 75% average, a little low by my standards, but this summer stuff really wasnt all that appealing for me, combined with my largest downswing, a car accident and everyone but me heading to vegas, it was a pretty crappy 6 weeks.

at first i thought summer school, this is where the keeners should go to get a step up on other people and graduate sooner. apparently i levelled myself as it would be quite the opposite. its where dumb people go in an attempt to catch up with the rest of the curve. oh and i forever hate group work. group work is cruel punishment. when the teacher says stuff like 'i am going to randomly pick your groups' i know believe it to actually mean 'to the people that speak english and seem smart, you are going to work with complete idiots in order to promote balance in this class'

what is worse than having a 12 page paper assigned in a group?

being stuck with 2 people who dont speak or write english.

speitweutpwoeslkdjfalksjrqpoewiru0wet9u039tu40

swear to god, next semester, i am going into my classes and playing the 'hi i am immigrant no speaky english' card. maybe then i'll run good and get put into groups with the people who can actually carry a portion of the workload.

dont get me wrong, im sure this is how it is in the real world too. but hey, in my fantasy world where things are run the way i deem optimal, we do things different here.

anyways, rant over. i fully intend to grind a lot once school is done. etown just might nail my ass to a chair and stick two monitors infront of me and make me go go go. it doesnt actually sound that bad. not going to set up silly goals like play xxxxx hands in a month or make yyyy dollars, instead im just going to put forth my A+ game at all times and see where it takes me. the recent success of a lot of friends has stirred something in me. i want to fit in and be more successful at poker lolz.

as opposed to playing poker myself, i have been doing a lot of sweat sessions for people recently. its good to see them all profit madly during those sessions and also good to see that my reads are still sharp and maybe i actually am 'running bad' lately. but for now, i wont worry about poker. school first, then silly card game after.

on an entirely different note, a girl is going to bbq me dinner next week. obvious brag as i get steak and potatoes. the beat is that she is going to make a lot of vegetables and i have to eat them all. this girl does not see potatoes as a vegetable, it is a 'starch.' i can already forsee a lot of difficulties in this relationship.

forgot to add that i won a CC roulette today. currently running 1/4 now.

15k week

Posted 07-16-2008 at 10:55 PM by Somnius
Updated 07-17-2008 at 03:03 AM by Somnius
Been attacking the points mean cash promo this week, returned from my week off from the last promo grind on thursday, fortunately, and obviously, things have been going well...besides running insanely hot, also haven't been spewing or doing anything stupid, sticking to solid and aggressive poker. The week off really helped re-work some of those synapses...good or bad, I don't know yet, but in that week off, I couldn't help turn most remedial tasks like watching tv or sitting down having a coffee into a mental journey through hands I played during the last grind. I'm sure you all do it, you're sitting there, replaying hands that pissed you off or you thought u messed up in your head, reworking the best line you could have taken etc. Getting back on thursday felt good, what a refreshing break.

Anyway this promo requires 20k party points by july 26th, so thats like 90k hands at 200, but since I'm playing a lot of 400 as well, shouldn't be so bad. I have started it off 6-9 tabling though, sometimes going up to 12 tables if there are a lot of great games, thank you party :).

Here is the graph, and then below are some hands :P.

This next one is a little blah, didn't have much equity, but it was a standard spot with a continuous donker, and I knew I had enough fold equity to fill an origame class, so whatever.

CO ($400)
Hero ($1,109)

Dealt to Hero Q:heart:Q:club:

Hero shows Q:heart:Q:club:
(Flop 91.4%, Turn 95.5%)

UTG+1 shows K:club:K:spade:
(Flop 8.6%, Turn 4.5%)

Hero wins $1,595

Not really sure what to make of the whole thing yet, poker's going great, lifetime 200 "winrate" now is over 6bets, 400 only like 15k hands so far but still at over 10 bets, guess I'm a pretty lucky poker player in general. Would've never imagined making 15k in one week this early, but, regression is just around the corner to spoil the heater party, good thing, would be a shame to let making this much money influence your behavior and the way you see yourself and the people around you. Variance is like poker's way of keeping you in check and ensuring your feet stay on the ground, glad it's there...

Main lesson you should take from this is, keep sacrificing to the poker gods, what does that mean?...Fold your pocket aces every 7th time preflop, that's what I do...:p

Movies, Aspirin and Vultures (2005)

Posted 07-16-2008 at 06:51 PM by Nielsio
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373760/

The setting is 1942 in Brazil and the image-quality looks like it was made 30 years ago, yet it was made in 2005!

The story is about a young German man (Johann) who escaped from Germany during the buildup to the war and is trying to have a life as an aspirin-salesman. He meets Ranulpho on the road and he becomes his assistent. As they travel the countryside we get to know both of them better and better, as well as the realities of the poor parts of Brazil.

This is a very good movie that shows you the psychology of the harshness of war (even when it's far away), of starting a new life, friendship, pain and never giving up.

The Prestige (2006)

Posted 07-16-2008 at 06:42 PM by Nielsio
Updated 07-17-2008 at 05:47 AM by Nielsio
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482571/

I didn't finish this movie, I watched maybe a third and then I got sick of it. I started skipping ahead and then just closed it.

The setting is around 1870 or so. And the story is about some magicians in fierce rivalry trying to make it big. But it's just not believable. Christian Bale and Scarlett Johansson are serious actors, but it also featured Hugh Jackman (from X-men) and Michael Caine. But I couldn't take it as something serious, neither the rivalvy, their personal lives, them as characters, or much of anything.

At the end of the day this movie isn't about anything and tries to keep you interested with a mix of good and semi-good actors and some stagework and whatnot, but it fails entirely if you ask me. If you're going to use Bale and Johansson, their roles should be deep, interesting, philosophical, psychological, etc and so on. Not some fluffy children-esque movie.
