Another end of year review

It's that time of year again; the holidays are over, people are slowly awakening from their drunken stupor, children are bored with their Christmas presents already and the Leggo latest blog posts fill up with end of year reviews. So, of course, to keep up the tradition I realised I had better reflect on the past year as well.

Overall I feel 2009 saw the culmination of a lot of hard work. I became a Leggo Pro, graduated from college and got a job at one of the best trading firms in the world (to go along with working at the best video training site). All fantastic achievements that I'm very proud of. However, looking forward there's still so much more work to do; graduate as a trader, get more videos out (I'm working on it), get back to midstakes. There are some other ideas I've been playing around with but I keep on foreseeing problems and arguing with myself that I won't have the time or desire to finish them, that the benefits won't outweigh the effort, etc. I guess that type of process is probably a good thing on balance although jumping in head first would result in more being accomplished.

On the poker side I've gotten very, very few hands in this year, only 26k. That was most likely a combination of final year in college, loads of problems trying to produce videos and starting a 60 hour a week job. At least I ran well:

Hope everybody has a great 2010.

This is really wired, didn't you use to play 400nl or higher? Also I don't believe this stats are optimal for nl50 and nl100 on a long run even if you know a lot of poker.
Congrats for your work as a coach especially the huge thread on the micro stakes forum, all the best to you in 2010.

Congratulations on a great year, man.

Given your abilities and work ethic I have no doubt that 2010 will be just as rewarding for you, if not moreso.

Yes, two summers ago I was playing 400nl and taking shots at 600nl. I bought Aaron's memoirs, the shot went bad, I cashed out a load for a holiday, and then final year of college and producing videos for Leggo came along so I was playing very little and had to cash out most of the rest of my roll throughout the year for various expenses. I'm finding a bit of time at the weekends now to get a session or two in and trying to rebuild.

The stats are probably a bit crazier than most people's but it's really not all that different from what I've said over and over again in the stats thread; steal as much as you can get away with, 3bet the shit out of your BTN, cbet as a default if you're playing micro/small stakes, take lots of stabs at limped pots and, if you're going to call/defend wide, then check raise and play back at people a lot postflop.

Admittedly my stats probably aren't optimal, my VPIP from the SB is likely about 10% too high since I complete after limpers so much and I'm likely calling opens a little too unreservedly. But the bigger your edge on the competition the more pots you can play profitably, if you told aejones or BobboFitos to play 50nl or 100nl, they'd probably make me look like a nit in comparison. Obviously I'm not recommending other people to play like I do but it's extremely profitable if you have a big edge on your opponents and it's definitely a lot more fun.

Thanks and best of luck to you too.
