U.S. Gov vs FTP/Stars
Posted in Poker | View Comments (30)

The U.S. Government just charged Fulltiltpoker and Pokerstars...along with AbsolutePoker with illegal gambling charges.

They have seized their .com domain websites. The .net (play money) sites are still operational.

So far, I can still play on the site...not sure how long that will last.

Just a heads up Leggo...this quite literally just happened.

EDIT: Hrere is the DOJ release.

any suggestions on what to do? i'm from europe and have $4K roll on Stars, should i withdraw it via neteller and see how things develop? is it possible that US gov shuts down Stars and confiscate players money?

and wtf just happened with 2+2, i was browsing that thread about this issue and 2+2 isn't working anymore, maybe some server overload with all players checking out that thread?

Remember, Stars and FTP don't operate within the U.S. border...they just service it.

Their bank accounts and servers and offices all reside outside U.S. Jurisdiction.

I am no where near an expert on this but I think the money is def safe if you're living outside the U.S. I don't think they'll be able to keep any money...but they might be able to block U.S. players from playing by forcing Stars/FTP out of the U.S. market ala Party.

This is why the .com (US) sites have been seized but the .net (play money) sites remain open. I bet the French, Italian and other sites remain open as well. This is all speculation but I doubt Stars and FTP stop operating...they just might get forced out of U.S. market...probably (silver lining) to clear the way for U.S. regulated internet gambling. You didn't think the Casinos were spending all that money on lobbyists for nothing did you?

2+2 is probably getting flooded right now. Check twitter if 2p2 is down.

Oh and ultrasPNT...it's def more than 50%...how else do you think we voted in the politicians making this happen.

Thanks, Scoot for answering. I wonder if internet gambling will get regulated in U.S. will this mean that U.S. market will be seperated from rest of the world - meaning that europeans won't be able to play with U.S. citizens?

My thoughts on cashing out are that PS/FT are not gonna take your money ever, but if you withdraw to a seized payment processor the govt might seize your funds. This is why I am electing to sit tight for now.

any US player who tried to now sit is blocked on Stars. Only those who were already sitting can continue playing.

check out www.pokerscout.com to see the effects

I can still play on FTP...which is worse because I'm playing like it's fake money.

Bush the inarticulate choice to succeed him was Bill Frist. A lifeless inanity whom only mumbles could be impressed with. A coward who in the middle of the night hid this law in the Safe Port Act. Did he ever break single digits??? Now Holder/Obama are coming for us. Such A Brilliant move. Why? We hold Poker close to our hearts. Time to start busting our local ( Federal) politicians asses. For those not use to arguing it takes more then one call, or being two to three lines deep

I have read (on twitter lol) worldwide play will be down in 48 hours, does anyone have a more reliable source for this assumption? really hope this is not true, "business as usual" according to PStars for non-US citizens
