Beemer, Benz, or Bentley?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get back into blogging a bit more often but to tell the truth, it's been pretty tame with me lately. I've been back home at my parent's place before I make the big move to my new place on the 12th of September now and I'm just about to go insane! They live in the middle of nowhere and I get no cell service. For the last 3 days, we were without internet because of a lightening storm, and so I've been replying to PMs and questions about my videos from my phone when I'm out with friends.

We just got internet back and so I thought I'd pose this difficult question to you guys and hopefully get some meaningful feedback: What car should I get?

Here is my top choice:

I'm absolutely in love with this car, the Maserati Granturismo. It looks awesome, sounds amazing, and is just overall a freaking beast. However, I've been reading lately that I should expect it to be in the shop a lot and that shop time for an Italian sports car is pricey (obv). So I figured I'd ask you guys what are some other options without the less reasonable upkeep costs? I would imagine anything like Audi, Lexus, BMW, etc would have a lower relative upkeep cost just because of how common dealerships are and how experienced the average mechanic is with the car ($40 oil chance instead of $300 oil change, $250/mo insurance vs $450/mo insurance, etc.).

I've been working hard on finishing my book, which is about to be mailed to the printers once the back cover is finalized, and I've been working hard coaching. So the bottom line is that I'm looking to splurge a bit on an awesome car. Any suggestions? If you guys can post a picture too, I think that would make things a bit more flavorful. Hell, I might still just get the Maserati!

Hope you guys are well. Thanks for all the positive feedback about my last video. The second part should be out pretty soon.

-Reid

On a recent Joe Rogan podcast, I think w/ Dane Cook, they were talking about their first bad ass cars, and one was a Mazzi, they were less than impressed fwiw.... always breaking down, etc. Ragged on Porsche too.

They pimped the shit out of Lexus though.

But in the looks/sound/panty dropping dept, you can't go wrong w/ the Mazzi... I dig the Audi R8 (?)... I think they're comparable in price.

R8 is nice, I agree. I think my favourite car right now would be the Mercedes SLS AMG, but it's not exactly the cheapest on the market. I guess outside of that car I like the Bently Continental GT, beamer has some really nice cars for their price range. German cars will obv be the most reliable and Italians likely the least. Bentley for style, though in the US Beamers and Mercs also have a lot of style. I guess in the end I don't know much about cars, sorry for being no help XD.

meh, I would go with the Porsche Cayman; http://www.nextautos.com/car/2009-porsche-cayman

It has a mix of everything you want, won't bust your account, and looks pretty sick

Sick car. Nice problem to have, these decisions.

I test drove Audi, BMW, and Benz before settling on Mercedes. Audi was close, but I found MB to be an easy choice w/ mechanical and cosmetic designs. BMW doesn't really have as many models I like anymore, used to love the M6's

The thing about a car like a bentley is, you have to be so careful everywhere you go and you draw so much attention to yourself. Plus like you said, taking care of it is a bitch.

If I were young and rich, I'd get something like an Audi S5. Expensive, classy and you don't see too many of them (unlike BMWs/Lexuse which are a dime/dozen).

If you are set on spending 100k+, I'd get an Aston Martin. That's a dream car.

Beans, not trying to drop like 300k for a car haha. R8s look pretty freaking awesome, but still may be a bit too baller? Not sure. That 5.2L model, 0-60 in 3.7... prettttttty sick.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm looking around. Will update progress

The R8 is a really sick car. I personally don't like Mercedes. If you are looking for something a little cheaper than the R8 then you cant go wrong with a BMW M3. I actually just bought a BMW 335i and really love it but I did a bunch of research on the M3, 335i, Audi S4 and S5. Feel free to pm me if you are thinking about any of those.

What about Japenese? Either in a straight line or round the bends, the GT-R will piss all over all the other cars you have mentioned. Lots of people don't like the looks but I think it looks great. Like it means business.

!!!!!!!!!!!
The maserati was my dreamcar before i drove it 2 years ago. It is the best looking car in the world, but i didnt like the transmission and despite its HP its not as fast as you might think (weighs too much). Also the running costs are just too high (4x more than my S5).
If you want to spend less than 100k get an BMW M3 or an Audi S5. If you want to spend more i cant see a reason to NOT get an Aston martin.

P.S. Im from Germany and Mercs suck !

I agree with ug, Nissan makes good sports cars that are pretty cheap. GT-R really does rape most of the cars mentioned here. Even the 360z pwns it's competition from Merc, Beamer and Audi (Cayman and TT for example). Zi Dang drives a 350 or 360z I believe.
But in the end you just really have to like the car you buy, thinking practically with sports cars seems counterproductive ^^.

Mercs suck? What is your basis for this statement?

I used to drive a merc SL and my best friend currently drives a C63 AMG, they make pretty good cars, but their service is the worst out there (in the "premium" segment). I had some electrical issues when my cars was 4 months old and mercedes refused to pay for it to get fixed.

Even though the 2 year warranty should cover everthing ! Same goes for my friend who recently had some problems with his oil pump, he had to visit 4 merc shops, write numerous letters, make a lot of calls until merc agreed to cover the costs. Maybe its just me, but stuff like thats tilts me to no end.

With Audi its a whole different story, had to get a new clutch recently which technically is not covered anywhere. I drove it to my audi dealer, he took the car gave me a free rental and made sure i dont have to worry about anything....

P.S. There is no nissan 360z they have the 350z and the 370z :-) which are both awesome cars, but like with the Nissan GT-R im not sure if you want to look like an 18 year old kid from the fast and the furious ^^

FWIW... the R8 is what Quinton "Rampage" Jackson drove running from the cops in a California beach community. Can't outrun a radio though.

It starts and ends with reliability. A day in your life wasted while you get your car towed or whatever is not worth it. Then you're waiting around and get life tilted on the phone trying to sort stuff out. Never buy an Italian vehicle unless you want to just look at it. 16 years ago I bought an Italjet Italian moped and hand to wait over 6 months for a new part and swore never again to get an uncommon brand.

I have a BMW 520i now. Really comfortable, really reliable and I'm probably BMW for life now. My Dad has a Merc and gets hammered by weird electrical faults and outrageous service costs.
