Group Coaching: Season 2

What's up guys!? I feel like I haven't written a blog post in a while. That's probably because I've been grinding the last two weeks of January I was at home (+25k, down 19k in all-in EV OBV) and writing my book a bit. I just went snowboarding in the Pocanos with some friends who live near Baltimore. I hadn't seen them for a while, so I decided to fly to Baltimore and then drive the other 4.5 hours up to our place in Pennsylvania (not Penn state... sorry again Brandon!) both for some bonding time and for some book writing time.

I have a ton of notes written on planes during anti-electronics time that I basically translated and elaborated into pages and pages for my book that has to be over 20,000 words by now and on the way back I came up with an idea or two that I've never even heard about in the poker community. So I'm excited to write about it, but it will be a secret until you read the book! For a lot of the more complicated topics, I've taken lots of time to flush them out and explain them as best as I can, including a lot of mathematical support.

OK OK, standard book update aside, I'm now taking sign-ups for my second wave of group lessons! Here's the rundown:
  • Recording For my second group of two, we had some recording issues because everyone else thought that everyone else had a recording program set up for each lesson. People's trial versions ran out on this and that and we were kind of screwed for a few lessons. I've purchased Pamela: Skype Recorder and I've asked Vitas to take a look at why my Camtasia was freaking out. So problems solved as far as recording. I'll send out a megaupload.com link to everyone after each lesson and after I'm able to compile the recordings and upload them.
  • Format The format will still be 8 lessons total. There will be one sweat for each person in the group, 5 sweats total, and 3 theory-based lessons in a presentation format, followed by a question and answer session based on that lesson. I'm going to cap each group at 5 people and prorate / adjust things for a different sized group if for instance I get 12 people to sign up, I'll just make two groups of 6, or 3 of 4, whichever the consensus is (less groups, more sweat sessions, a little less personal attention per lesson, etc).

If you have a smaller group of friends who want to stick together and want a group together, let me know and we can adjust a group for that, too. These groups are not only focused on getting you guys better at playing poker, but also forcing you to talk with other people in your group about poker. It's important to have some long-lasting poker buds to discuss things with IMO, so maybe you'll find one in my groups. I have a private forum set up for all my students that frequently fosters discussion and the same group dynamic.
  • Improvements I've gotten a lot better since our last lessons. Playing a lot, talking to great players a lot, writing my book, and basically constantly thinking about poker have made me a much better player and a much better coach. I'll be improving on the theory lessons by elaborating and editing to better explain some concepts.
  • Schedule I will be doing a lesson once per week for each group at a pre-agreed upon time that we set as a group. The best times for everyone internationally seems to be around 6-8pm EST. We can figure out the best day as well after you have all signed up (last time we did Wednesday).

I want to stress how much more I'll make sure boarding trips and whatever don't interfere with lessons. I have one trip planned in March that may be a factor, but I'm guessing it won't be. Otherwise, I'm totally committed to not missing a lesson unless I'm puking or something... I mean I'll probably make it even then (my mic has a mute button).
  • Deadline I'm asking you guys to have signed up by February 14th, so you all have something to look forward to on Valentine's day Probability, if you're out there reading this and mad at me because you're being Thai and can't make this group, no worries, I'll have bi-monthly sign-ups so that everyone who wants to get into the groups can. Although, price may increase as the year goes on, I get better, my hourly goes up, etc.
  • Contact Information If you guys are interested in signing up, email me at shootaa@leggopoker.com with your contact information. Please send your real name (first and last, so I don't have 20 people named Mike like last time), your FTP/Stars name (the one from which you intend to send payment so I know it's you who has paid), your Skype name (it's a free download at skype.com), the limits you currently play, and the single thing in poker that you'd most like to improve in your game. I'll do my best to customize your sweat lesson and focus on the topic of your choice, unless you change your mind before your sweat comes up for whatever reason.
  • Price The price will be $1,700 per person. You can send it to me on PokerStars or on Full Tilt Poker.

Even after lessons students are encouraged to e-mail me, PM me, send me HHs and questions. If you email them, please send the raw HH, that way I can look at it on my iPhone while I'm riding in a car to somewhere and type out a response.

I think that's about it. If you guys have any more questions, post them in the comments section and I'll add answer ya. I'm going to leave this post up until Feb 14th so that everyone is able to see it, so good luck to you guys and I'll chat with you then!

edit: Here's a review from Branman, a group student of my second pod.

Quote:
Whether you are looking to climb multiple stakes, or significantly increase your winrate at the limit you already play at, Reid's group lessons are guaranteed to improve your game. If you don't have the fundamentals nailed down, then this group will take months off of your learning curve. Even if you think you have the basic bases completely covered, Reid is in command of a wealth of nuanced information that will make the money spent well worth the gains you are likely to realize through participation. Reid is always willing to answer questions and his program rewards the most active members with the most value. Highly recommended for those looking for great, current information from a person that is on the fast track to becoming a poker guru in the teaching community.

Here's a review from Craig "not once"

Quote:

I was a student in Reid’s group coaching that just concluded. First of all thanks Reid for all your time and effort. Over the course of the lessons I’ve improved heaps, am playing bigger games and winning more money. Reid is a poker machine and articulates his thoughts well, his theory presentations were eye opening and really made me look at poker differently in certain spots.

Undertaking the group lessons also allowed me to meet other poker players which has been a massive benefit. I now have a group of guys who I regularly talk poker with and run sweats. This has had a profound impact on my game.

On top of all his expertise, Reid is a stand up guy and is always more than happy to answer PM’s and look at HH’s for you. He really wants his students to improve and if you are prepared to put some work in there is no doubt you will. Signing up for Reid’s coaching is by far the best poker investment I’ve made and I encourage anyone considering it to just do it, you won’t have any regrets. Thanks again Reid.

People should seriously consider doing this. If a 100NL player puts in the work and busts their ass absorbing what Reid is teaching you, there is really no reason they won't be crushing 200NL at least.

Weird question Reid.... would I get a discount if I signed up for another group session?

Yeah, sure. I'll make some of the theory lessons different for your group as well so you don't get repeat stuff
