My wife declared another snow weekend, which means that I will be fighting the crowds instead of the fish for the next two days. If anyone has any video comments or shoots me any Skypes/MSNs/AIMs/PMs I will need until Monday to get to them.
Ship the Snowboardy Goodness So I finally made the decisions and went with the Burton Custom ICS and the Triad bindings (Infinite Channel 4tw!). I had someone talk me out of the Custom X in a way that made sense (huge thanks to the team at Sierra Snowboard & Ski in Sacramento – they definitely know how to keep us newbies out of trouble). I won’t go into the details, but they basically pointed out that it was going to be way too much board for me and I would have spent more time falling than carving, whereas the Custom is a bit softer and therefore more newb friendly. So I got something that I can grow into skillwise, but not get all banged up and frustrated with getting there. I also picked up a pair of Thirty-Two Lashed boots to complete my new setup. I tried on a buncha’ different boots, but most were too soft for my taste; I really liked how solid the Lashed’s were. Of course, we got them heat molded (w00t!) so now they fit like the proverbial glove. Finally I snagged a Gnu CHB MTX along with Forum Republic bindings (another thanks to the Sierra staff) for my bigfooted son. The guys at the shop said they were going to nominate me for Dad of the Year based upon that purchase as my son will have an unbelievably fun time with that setup. To be honest, I am actually excited to try this board out as well, the magne traction seems like a cool deal, especially since we ride so many groomed runs.
