Like many 22-year-old pros, Aussie Keiran "K_Man" Harris got into poker via the comedic stylings of Norm Chad on ESPN. Unlike many others, however, Keiran traces his beginnings to the little known Hachem boom of 2005. Oy, Oy, Oy!!

He first began playing with friends - just for fun - before moving to live freerolls in local clubs. Then, like so many of the top online pros, he deposited $50 on Party Poker. K_Man was a winner from the moment he sat down at the virtual felt.

"I managed to win straight off the bat," explains Keiran, "and, believe it or not, I made a killing two-tabling 200NL full ring, with 60bb buy-ins, effectively set mining." He admits he must have run really, really well during this period.

Armed with a recently minted University degree with a Bachelor's degree in Communication, Keiran has never had what he would call a "real job." Unless you count running small stake poker tournaments in pubs for a year or so. And, let's face it, you wouldn't.

"Even though it was probably better than most jobs I could have had," he admits," I still found it fairly excruciating." K_Man is his own man and working for a boss he didn't completely respect would be a struggle. As a profession, poker suits him perfectly.

As poker in Australia receives less exposure than in many other regions of the world, Keiran Harris' success is little known at home. His biggest hurdle is a lack of better players with whom to discuss the nuances of the game. For the most part, he's been on his own.

"My best friend and I learned the game at the same time, so we bounced ideas off each other," says K_Man, who always played a level or so higher. Then there was another issue: "I always took the (almost certainly incorrect) route of wanting to be a respected player before really joining a community."

He's been playing mid-stakes for about 2 years, evolving from being way under rolled for 400NL to being a self-admittedly pretty big bankroll nit. He began playing 600NL in March, 2009, before a significant forced cash out caused a retreat to lower levels. For those who believe in certain curse/myths, it was at precisely this time Keiran encountered the dreaded ‘running-worse-than-you-ever-thought-possible’ period. (For the record, Keiran believes all curses, cash out or otherwise, are fairly unlikely).

Frustrated, he completely dissected his game, every aspect. He spent countless hours studying ranges and tendencies, both his and his opponents'. "As a result, I now possess immense confidence in my game," offers Keiran. "I am certain I am far better equipped to begin a journey to higher and higher stakes.

Keiran has never had a coach and concedes that has been a mistake. He continues to mull signing up with a coach and believes such a move is a top priority as he ventures into higher stakes. He credits training sites with the biggest impact on his game, principally as the stimulus for thinking more deeply about varying aspects of poker.

Where does Keiran see himself three years down the road? He hopes to look back and see how comparatively terrible he was as a poker player. "The difference in ability I have today compared to even six months ago is a joke," he confides. Three years from now, he plans to be so financially successful, he'll be able to dedicate a few years to writing books and screenplays, before eventually starting his own business.

In the interim, Keiran "K_Man" Harris will not only be working to improve his game and his bankroll, he'll be looking to help others do the same.
