Some argue that poker can always be broken down to mathematics, while others like to take a feel-based approach to the game. For Nick “Unknown Soldier” Katovsky, a mathematics degree from Bristol University allowed his progress to skyrocket. Upon graduation, Nick fully set his sights on poker and has continuously moved up through the ranks since.
Like many others, poker wasn’t always so glorious for the Unknown Soldier. Around the end of 2005, Nick deposited $40 online and began playing small stakes sit n’ go tournaments. It wasn’t until September of 2006 that he found 2+2, and finally made the switch to No Limit Hold ‘Em cash games. Nick’s constant changing and tweaking of his game allowed him to never go broke, while moving up to his current stakes of $10/$20NL and $25/$50NL.
While re-depositing was never an obstruction, tilt certainly was. Nick emphasizes the importance of learning to recognize and treat your tilt; a skill which he confidently proclaims has been enhanced through experience. By always looking ahead to the next step and taking each day as it comes, this Unknown Soldier has certainly made a name for himself in the poker community.
