While many small and mid-stakes professional players made their start during the poker boom and before the UIGEA set in, Brian “bw07507” Wilber got his start a little late. Starting from the ground up at 25nl Full Ring games a few years ago, he worked his way up, profitably beating all 6-max, Full Ring, and Heads-Up games through the 200nl level while the games were tough. But is grinding day-after-day and making a living all there is to this grinder? No.

Wilber graduated in 2009 from the prestigious St. John Fisher College with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Instead of jumping on one of the many employment opportunities that came his way in the research and medical field, he decided to enjoy his poker passion and travel after graduating. He’s traveled extensively (Wilber lives in Upstate New York) with Las Vegas being one of his favorite poker destinations. His tales of debauchery and mayhem all around the US have reached near-legendary status.

While poker is his current profession, Wilber does plan to go back to his academic roots. “Poker is not the endgame for me…. I just can’t see myself playing professionally for a long period of time. I am planning on going back to school at some point and eventually getting a job while playing poker on the side for a nice second source of income.”

Wilber’s success at the cash game tables is well documented with impressive win-rates at 6-max, Full Ring, and Heads-Up tables at all levels he’s played at full time. Although he doesn’t consider himself a tournament expert, he a MiniFTOPS victory adds to his impressive poker resume. As a coach at LeggoPoker, his micro and small stakes training videos have been consistently highly rated by the Leggo community and his privately coached students continue to praise him.
