Personal Statistics |
Daniel Mcaulay is a math and statistics student at Glasgow University, Scotland. He got his start playing poker at a young age, logging on to Party using a friend’s name. It was rough going for a while, and he lost money playing SNGs until, when he was 18, he made his own account on FT. At that point, he had found Leggo/2+2 and was ready to begin a new chapter in his poker-playing career. He deposited $200 and played 5/10c, building his way up to where he is now.
In his early days, Daniel earned his money as a paper boy, a milk boy, and a sales associate in a shop. But, as he says, “it was shit compared to poker.” At 50nl he was making more from poker than from his job, so he did what any reasonable person would do – quit the job and focused on having fun for profit. Until recently, he was playing 5/10 on FTP, and did well enough to withdraw enough cash to move out and buy a car. For now, he’s switched to 2/4 while he rebuilds his bank roll or deposits and moves up.
Daniel got his start in the usual way: playing poker with friends and getting crushed. But, he says, making online accounts and watching every single video from the top producers on Leggo (multiple times) impacted his game hugely. It also helped to have friends in the community. Daniel “wouldn’t be here unless Matt had staked me for 100nl when I didn’t have enough money to move up.” He also credits Steel108 for coaching him when he played micros and helped him move up to the next level.
Of course, learning the game and getting better isn’t the only challenge he faced. He also had the task of convincing his parents that he didn’t need a job, and the age-old problem of creating a personal work ethic. His current income changed his parents’ minds, but he still feels he doesn’t play as much as he should.
For the future, Daniel looks forward to grinding high stakes poker – a goal that will certainly be aided as he finishes his math and statistics degree in two years. How high the stakes remains to be seen, but if you keep an eye on him here you’ll be sure to see some excellent poker playing.
