i certainly think it can, however, if you are grinding a bunch of tables playing ssnl through msnl with a large player pool i think hud is a huge help in moving up in limits. there are definitely upsides to playing without a hud, specifically the 'reason' it will give you to develop more in depth reads on your opponents - because without a hud to rely on you're much more likely to pick up on tendencies when there are no numbers to fall back on. so, yes, i think playing without hud can make you a better player. all that said though, it is still possible to develop more in depth reads and pick up on tendencies while using a hud, i just feel it is easier to do so without one.
