Default My Fitness Journal

Hey,

I'm looking forward to developing my physical fitness. For me, this journal is for motivation, having an experienced group review and give advice, and to maintain responsibility, If I fail this journal will show it.

Background
-5 foot ten inches
-136 pounds
-slender/lean/skinny build.
-age 19
-college sophomore

I was lifting prior to this summer when I got a bad case of mono, which destroyed all routines I was accustomed to.

Current Status

Now I'm back at school and looking to step it up.

For the past 2 weeks i've been running every other day (3-4 miles, ending with 4 strides or so) and doing 3x10 sets of push-ups, crunches, planks, dips on the alternate days and resting on sat/sunday.

Goal

-Increase Muscle mass, definition, be cut.
-be able to run >6 miles.

Supplements

-I take a fish/flax/borage oil(omega 3/6/9) pill 3 times a day.
-have whey protein from GNC, will use once i develop a lifting program.
-Men's multivitamin.

Diet

-I only drink water (80%) and 2% milk(10%) and black coffee(10%)
-Eat tons of cold cuts, usually with wraps or wheat bread.
-Dinner is grilled chicken, a bit of salad.
-I do drink alcohol and am involved with fraternity life but I hear Guinness or hard alcohol with diet soda is the way to go(I understand that in general alcohol is terrible for my aims)

Diet ambitions- maintain 6 small healthful meals a day.

Rough Current Fitness Plan

- I do enjoy running and wish to keep it up every other day
- As far as lifting, I'm not 100% sure. I read over garbage mans posts but I'm not sure if that would be optimal for me since I'm already lean. So any advice would be great.

Tuesday September 2nd.

Ran about 3 miles, slowed down at the end since my partner( a better runner than I) said his kidneys felt like they were gonna pop.

Checked out a friends fitness routine after.

Comprised of pushups, inclined pushups, curls, tricep work, and shoulders.

totally wiped.

Looking good so far. Since you have a slim build and seem to be naturally lean, I'd really pile on lots of protein and healthy fats to keep your calories up. Stuff like avocados, almonds, macadamia nuts, salmon, etc are a great way to get extra omega 3/6/9 and boost your calories. If possible, try to get an idea of what your daily macronutrient intake looks like: how many grams of carbs, protein, and fat are you getting? If you want to gain muscle, the only way to do it is for the calories you consume to exceed the calories you burn. Eat big to get big. Get yourself a good protein powder(check out the reviews I did in the supplement thread) and use it in addition to steak, chicken, fish, eggs, milk, etc.

As far as being cut, you sound like you need to build more muscle overall before you're going to look like you really lift weights. Your affinity for running will really slow down your muscle gain since distance running is extremely catabolic(makes your body consume muscle for energy). If you want to gain muscle at a more satisfying rate, I'd reduce the amount of running you're doing and spend more time eating and lifting.

Pitch the GNC multivitamin and get this one: New Chapter Every Man multivitamin. It is whole food based rather than synthetic, so your body can use the vitamins much more effectively than what you're getting in the GNC product. These are also a ton easier on your stomach, so that's a big plus as well. Obviously they are a bit more expensive, but it's a trivial amount of money when you compare it to what we win each month playing poker.

Goodluck squire.
Looking forward to keeping an eye on you.If i see you slacking i'm going to be spamming your inbox with spam btw.
I'm just starting my own fitness goals just now.Mine is to sadly lose weight,as 2yrs of cheesecake and chinese takeaways have took their inevitable toll.
Going to be doing a lot of cardio then heavy hammer the machines and free weights.

Followed the Monday regimen yesterday with a few small changes. Instead of the elliptical, I ran to and from the gym(about 5-10 minutes each way). Also there were no foot bands for that exercise. Trying to pick up that Multi today, I'm running out as is, but there only at a co-op super market so im not sure if you gotta be a member or w.e.

Gonna hit back and bi's today after dinner.

I'm not 100% sure, since replacing the word "dumbs" with both "dumbbells" and "thumbs" makes sense.

If it refers to dumbbells, I think it means to do 3 sets of front raises and 3 sets of lateral raises. If it refers to thumbs, it means 3 sets of hammer curls and 3 sets of normal db curls.

What do I win?

you should look into some whey protein. You should eat within 45 min after your workout as well.
