Default [50nl]HU: river shove with trips, like or not?

first some history:

Hero (BTN/SB): $43.69
BB: $98.10

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is BTN/SB with 9 8
Hero raises to $1.50, BB calls $1

Flop: ($3.00) 3 7 2 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $2.25, BB calls $2.25

Turn: ($7.50) T (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $5.00, BB calls $5

River: ($17.50) A (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $12.50, BB calls $12.50

Final Pot: $42.50
Hero shows 9 8
BB shows 7 J
BB wins $42.00

villain is very loose passive and very stationy. he limps a lot of buttons and he calls a lot of raises from the bb. in this hand when i decided to double barrel with my open ender at the turn i had to third barrel to win the pot. and i thought that A on the river was the perfect card to do this with, yet he still called with J 7. fine.

on with the hand:

Hero (BB): $47.05
BTN/SB: $133.65

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is BB with 9 4
BTN/SB calls $0.25, Hero checks

Flop: ($1.00) 4 8 2 (2 players)
Hero bets $1.00, BTN/SB calls $1

Turn: ($3.00) 4 (2 players)
Hero bets $3.00, BTN/SB calls $3

River: ($9.00) A (2 players)
Hero bets $9.00, BTN/SB raises to $29.25, Hero raises to $42.55

so here my thinking was to build the pot early since we have decent equity. we turned the perfect card and we have to get more value from his pairs or even A-high so i potted it. i potted the river again for value and when he raises it, it kinda warned me he could have a better hand but what? i decided to shove anyway to get max value since we beat him here most of the time. but of all the hands that he could have i can think of is it all makes sense if he had A 8 here. yeah i know, just one hand. lol.

but is my shove here ok or not?

thanks.

Loose passive stationy and he can only have 1 hand??? Does not compute...

This is fine, you also forget that he can have worse 4;s and just be spazzing.

I don't like the shove on the river. I think just calling his raise is probably best. He is limping the button so he can have any range of hands 3 5 or any 4 that boats or beats you. Just my opinion but in limped pots he can have just about any value hand there and I doubt he is raising A8 that big on the river.

Sorry side note, I guess he probably can't have 4 8 or 4 2 because he would raise the flop?? But still for what I stated previously I don't like the shove.

When you POT POT POT and he raises the river, you essentially say "I HAVE A 4" to all his value hands... So he isn't doing it w/ a merged range (even A8 for "non-thin"ish value); Especially given the fact that he is a station and has been winning vs you (given stacks)

When you call, you beat all his like QJ high hands that just spazzed... Given the edges described, I'd probably take calling the river and crushing his soul later that risking him doubling up on a "cooler", locking down and/or quitting...

I just don't see him calling w/ worse 50% of the time here when we shove, but we clearly have a +EV call when he raises.
