Default 50NL vs reg HU 3B flop in 3B pot with middle pair

Poker Stars, $0.25/$0.50 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 2 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

BTN: $60.95
Hero (BB): $82.20

Pre-Flop: 5 9 dealt to Hero (BB)
BTN raises to $1.20, Hero raises to $4.50, BTN calls $3.30

Flop: ($9) Q 9 6 (2 Players)
Hero bets $5.25, BTN raises to $12.50, Hero raises to $25, BTN calls $12.50

Turn: ($59) 8 (2 Players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $31.45 and is All-In, Hero calls $31.45

I 3B because I want to see how he reacts when I keep doing it. He's made one other bluff raise in a 3B pot with the same sizing. I never saw SD.
At this point I think he views me as over agro pre as I'm 3Betting ~ 40% to start.

I get the feeling he can't bet thin and might end up in spots with air range and sort of spaz raise it because he doesn't know what to do. e.g. early on he flatted me on the flop and ch/raised a Q turn small and then folded to my shove.

He may have a Q but I really didn't feel he would - I can't recall the whole dynamic but I remember he checked back QQ on Kxx in a spot where I thought he should bet for sure - and I feel like the type of guy who checks that back there might not raise QJ here (he doesn't seem fishy).

Flop:
I 3B because I'd love for his crappy draws to shove on me, I also have a pair vs his better flush draws. If I jam I just make the hand much easier for him to play.

On the turn I feel like I have enough equity to call it off vs the rest of his range..

flop sizing feels a bit weird to me, think id rather go smaller or bigger. as played shoving turn seems better than checking incase he has 78 or a fd that didnt jam flop giving him a free card is really really really detrimental

I agree with chewy on all that, especially the flop sizing- you should probably anticipate what a standard raise size by your opponent is going to leave you in stacks. Given your flop betsizing, you put him in a great spot to leverage his stack, where he can raise to 12-15$, and basically force you to commit yourself with any raise that comes back over the top since the texture of the board is wet and raise/folding more than half your stack with a flop 3bet would be a big disaster vs any reasonable strategy by your opponent that involves raise/felting draws... So given that, making it bigger than half pot with these stacks specifically is likely best with your whole range. I think something like 7-7.5 on flop is good.. you still have to commit yourself with a flop 3bet in that case, but now you are getting a better price on a shove, which reduced the frequency that villain can raise/fold flop unexploitably
