Default HUNL vs HUPLO for a dedicated individual?

Hi all!

I'm just getting serious about poke and looking to commit a lot of time into becoming as good as i can get.

I'm a very competitive person and therefore i feel more drawn towards headsup poker, and would prefer to spend most of my time in that field.

With this in mind, would it make sense to focus on NLHE or PLO?
I feel more comfortable with nlhe than i do plo and it seems to mest better with the way i want to approach poker (mathematics of poker is the only book I've read so I'm very influenced by it. My plan is to aim for balanced play using game theory as a base).

The problem is i look at the lobbies on pokerstars and at nlhe hu all i see is rows upon rows of people sitting alone and theres hardly any games running. A quick search on twoplustwo forums seems to back this up as a problem with the game.

So is nl still a wise choice for an ambitious newcomer wanting to play headsup, or would you suggest venturing into huplo instead? Is there action at >50nl or will i spend most of my days sitting around waiting if i get to that level?
I can play on any european site as well if that helps.

My advice if you want to get adept at NL is to learn short handed play too, otherwise you'll spend a lot of your time waiting around. Once you become competent at HU, not only will you find it hard to get someone to join your table but the regs you with with will either grim you or stop playing once they realize yuo're not braindead. So, learning 6max can help you get hands in whilst you wait for action.

I wish I'd started learning plo years ago, but never felt like passing up the opportunity to play my bread and butter game. In your shoes tbh, I would learn plo. It sounds like you are a relative newbie so you aren't giving up much by leaving NL to learn plo which atm is probably the more fruitful game and easier to get action in.

Just my 2 cents, good luck mate.
