Thanks for the link man...I'll have to check it out

Rika,
Got on this post late, but I can say from experience that elance.com is a very good option, Ive had 2 projects developed by the freelancers on this site, and have had very good results.

Cost analysis vs India is actually in favor of elance, the biggest hurdle is managing expectations, but it sounds like you have a really strong map of what you want your project to be and how it should look.

There are a lot of very talented people out there out of work who are willing to work cheap!!

Best of luck with this endeavor.

Thanks for the feedback man.

The more feedback I get about elance/other options, I think the more realistic my expectations are, which is certainly a good thing in business

I think if you want to avoid someone stealing your idea i would keep well away from India. You might get some kind of NDA/contract in place but when some other site built in India launches with a similar idea you will be hard pressed to prove the idea/info was yours and stolen. Then you probably need to go through courts there and the costs would be prohibitive. I am involved in a software company and that is one of the many reasons we don't outsource development of our products. Along with the many other problems it brings with it. Get someone based relatively locally who you can trust and get a contract in place.

Im in a similar predicament where I have some good ideas for software or websites but cannot find a reliable programmer.

What Im thinking about trying this Spring (early-late May) is going to some of the local campuses in Philly (Drexel, Penn, Temple) and hitting up their computer science department. Hopefully I can find some junior who is a sh$# hot programmer and going on Summer break that could use a little cash.

Anyone ever taken this route or have any thoughts on it?

Seems to me that the successful business development idea isn’t in creating a new website thing, the real money would be to start a US based company with the motto: -as cheap as India, - faster than India, _ & we won’t steal your ideas….!!! I know I would use it (my wife spent all last week looking for exactly the same thing app. wise).
