Cool Welcome to the Micro Stakes NL forum!

μNL is here primarily for posting poker strategy questions for games from .01c/02c ($2NL) up to and including .25c/.50c ($50NL).

Please do not post bad beats or bragging posts, either post them in the current off-topic thread or the Railing Bragging and Beats forum. Alternatively, you can create a free blog right here on Leggo to keep us up to date with the latest suck out you just received and any other goings on in your life. Threads with no strategic content will be moved or locked.

What's a strategy question? Well, if when playing a hand you think (what do I do now???) - then that's probably a question worth posting in μNL. When posting hand histories for discussion it helps enormously if you convert the hand first, fortunately LeggoPoker has it's own Hand History converter for you to use, which you can find at the top of this page.

Posting one hand for discussion per thread will ensure that the hand gets the focus you want, along with keeping the thread on one topic and clutter free. Exceptions can be made where you've a few hands you want to discuss that involve the same player/villain or that run on a similar theme.

Try to limit the hands you post to a maximum of two or three a day as this will also help the hands you do post get better responses. Save the rest to post the next day.

Try to include as much relevant information as possible
- If you have stats on the player, such as VPIP/PFR/AF/any other relevant stats (such as 3-bet% when dealing with a hand that has been 3-bet).
- If you've direct history with the player; if he's 3-bet or check raised you before and shown down something marginal, etc.
- How you have been playing, your perceived image at the table, the villains image.
- What your own thoughts on the hand/his range/etc are.

To make sure the advice you are given is completely unbiased, try to ensure that you don't give away the result of the hand. An example of this would be "Easy fold, right?" as the title. Of course, posting the actual results will not receive unbiased advice.

On that note, when discussing hands, try to not be result orientated. Just because you won the hand, does not mean you played it perfectly and you should be open to suggestions on how you could have played it better and not shoot them down immediately.

Another example of a poker strategy question is any theory concept you think applies to μNL. If you'd like to discuss a particular theory or concept, start a thread outlining your thoughts. You could also include a hand history or two that you think helps illustrate the concept.

Unfortunately, a lot of micro stakes players do not yet have the bankroll to justify purchasing a subscription to LeggoPoker. Luckily, there's a huge amount of free and cheap information available to take you to a level where you can afford it.

I'd probably start out with a book or two to get the absolute basics down and make sure you understand all the terminology that gets thrown around. Check out the Poker Book Discussion Thread for opinions. A couple of free books to start off with are Super System 2 available on Doyle Brunson's site and Ryan Fee's free ebook.

You're also going to want to check out the 2+2 stickies:

Micro Stakes Sticky

Small Stakes Sticky

Anthology

High Stakes "Best Of" Thread

FR CoTW Collection

There are free videos available here:

2+2 videos

PokerTrikz

Make sure you check out LeggoPoker's sample videos as well.

There's also a Members Video Contributions forum on Leggo. This forum is a great tool to get feedback as well as learn from your peers. LeggoPoker video producers will occasionally use a member contribution video to comment over for a scheduled video release. If we decide to use yours, we will ask and make sure it’s ok with you first. If you decide to record your own video, you should post it in the members video contributions forum, but feel free to post a link to your thread in the micro stakes forum as well to solicit feedback.

Be sure to visit the SWEATING THREAD where you can sweat and be sweated by your peers. Sweating consists of watching another person play poker and commenting on their thought processes and their play. There are two things you'll need. The first is a program that shares your desktop to let other people see it, most people use TeamViewer although there are other programs you can use. The second is a microphone or headset so you can both discuss things in real time, instead of over a chat program. Although it's not completely necessary, it will definitely improve the experience. The most popular program for communicating is Skype. Both of these programs are free.

LeggoPoker has a private strategy forum for subscribers where the pros post articles on various poker topics, sometimes the authors will post them on other forums as well. Here's a list of those threads:

"The Evolution of a Poker Player," by aejones 12/27/2007

"The Obsession," by aejones 1/1/2008

"Donking into the Raiser," by BobboFitos 7/20/2007

Interesting 2+2 Threads

If you have a credit card you can get a free one week trial at Leggo, on the video page there's a "show only DRM free" option which shows videos which are single table or powerpoint presentations. You can download all these and watch them after your trial runs out. You can also download DRM protected videos and unlock them. These will work for a week or three views, whichever comes first, so unlock a few at the end of your trial (don't tell Matt I told you all that ).

Reply to as many hand histories as you can and always give your thought process; it's fine reading a book or a theory thread or watching a video but hand history threads force you to verbalize your thought process and notice flaws in your logic. Any you don't spot can be caught by more experienced players and explained to you.

Make sure you're playing hands as well, sometimes it's easy to get so caught up with studying poker that actually playing takes a back seat. It's important that you find a balance between the two. Playing allows you to put what you've learned into practice and gain experience. Once you've got a decent sample of hands post your stats in the Official μNL stats thread to get feedback and spot any potential leaks you may have.

Before signing up to any poker site make sure you get yourself a good rakeback deal, rake can be fairly crushing at micro stakes so it's extremely important that you get yourself set up first. LeggoPoker has affiliate deals with many online sites, click here for more information and learn how you can get a subscription to LeggoPoker free of charge.

Welcome to LeggoPoker, enjoy the forum, have fun, and feel free to PM me or the other moderators with any suggestions.

Good luck at the tables.
