The lives of others 8.2/10.
In 1984 East Berlin, an agent of the secret police, conducting surveillance on a writer and his lover, finds himself becoming increasingly absorbed by their lives.
But I'm not sure many of you are going to like it, it's all about those ugly years before the 90s where the secret police of a communist country controls everything and restrains your rights, the right to free speech, the right of freedom, the right to privacy, they will edit everything they don't like and threaten you(kinda like Robby and Matt lol), they will even try to make good food hard to find in order to keep your comfort as low as they can so you'll not aspire for more and start some protest against the system. And when you do protest you'll be charged because protests were illegal but they would lift some bans for a while (to calm down the masses) and so you could see how "nice" they are.
In my country they took it to another level with laws like:
"Only one car per family"-you break it they would have took your car and charged you
"Only one room for family"- for example you would have been forced to move if they found out that you have a 2 member family(let's say you and your wife) and you live in a 4 bedroom house.
"The weekend rule for cars: cars have even numbers and odd numbers, one week people with cars with even numbers were allowed to drive, then the next week only people with cars with odd numbers were allowed to drive"- this rule was made to avoid traffic jams in weekends, the policy was something like: "you worked, now stay home for two days have no fun then on Monday come and work some more", imagine the frustration if it's an "even weekend" you worked so hard all week in a country that tries to bring you down, it's Saturday and you want to go fishing and relax one day, but you have an "odd car number" and no friends with an "even car number"
I guess you'd have to be born before the 90s and live in a country like that to appreciate the realities from this movie.
