Prometheus 7/10: I wanted this movie to be really good, but its ok instead. It made me think that if Alien, Jaws, etc were made today using todays technology and budget than this what directors would have done. Its not bad, but there is something about the style due to the necessary restraints of technology that made those movies really good.

Prometheus blew - 5/10 and I only give it that for the cinematography. The script was awful, nothing really had a purpose or made sense. I found myself afterwards thinking "remember when X happened, why was that?" and every person i spoke to didn't know either. I saw it in 3D IMAX which made it better, but I had such high hopes for this.

Could you please be more specific, I don't agreed that nothing made sense or had purpose. As I mentioned earlier, the film isn't a good standalone movie, but I think it fits well into the series, though there clearly has to be a sequel to tie up all the loose ends that this movie leaves.

It got hype because it is directed by Scott Ridley, the director who directed the original Alien movie (Aliens was directed by James Cameron). Alien was released in 1979 and 23 years later he get's to make a prequel with all the latest CGI. That's enough reason for hype imo.

Well, it's hard to be more specific as I don't want to spoil anything, and based on the tone I feel I projected in my previous post I think you can guess a lot of the points I made were based on emotion.

However, we can talk in PM about the specifics if you would prefer. There are perhaps some better examples, but straight off the top of my head, think about the very first scene (edge of the waterfall, i assume set back in time, drinking something, etc - don't want to give too much away), there is no real explanation as to why he drank what he did, and what the purpose of it was. It just felt like an completely isolated scene. The way it led into the story (setting, dig location, etc) just seemed weak and lazy.

Also, some of the characters (co-pilots) just had no real purpose except slight comedic relief. There was also a specific "bombshell" regarding one of the female characters that I felt was a bit stupid and didn't affect the story at all.

Again, I'm happy to discuss this further but I don't want to give too much away. If anyone feels I've already said too much let me know and I will remove things Just had such high hopes for the reasons you pointed at. I was expecting to be really scared, but I felt like no emotional involvement in the film, although I may be being overly harsh/critical because I expected so much.

Yea, I did hesitate to ask you to be more specific due to spoilers for others, but I was interested in hearing why you thought it was that bad. I'll send you a PM about the intro scene.
