Well, it's hard to be more specific as I don't want to spoil anything, and based on the tone I feel I projected in my previous post I think you can guess a lot of the points I made were based on emotion.
However, we can talk in PM about the specifics if you would prefer. There are perhaps some better examples, but straight off the top of my head, think about the very first scene (edge of the waterfall, i assume set back in time, drinking something, etc - don't want to give too much away), there is no real explanation as to why he drank what he did, and what the purpose of it was. It just felt like an completely isolated scene. The way it led into the story (setting, dig location, etc) just seemed weak and lazy.
Also, some of the characters (co-pilots) just had no real purpose except slight comedic relief. There was also a specific "bombshell" regarding one of the female characters that I felt was a bit stupid and didn't affect the story at all.
Again, I'm happy to discuss this further but I don't want to give too much away. If anyone feels I've already said too much let me know and I will remove things

Just had such high hopes for the reasons you pointed at. I was expecting to be really scared, but I felt like no emotional involvement in the film, although I may be being overly harsh/critical because I expected so much.
