Book Claims MTTs are -EV
Hey guys. So I've been rocking the Kindle DX lately and I was thinking about getting a Kindle copy of MOP (Mathematics of Poker) when I stumbled across this book that has apparently devoted time and effort to mathematically show that MTTs are a bad source of income: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bad-your-wea...8093085&sr=8-1
I haven't read it, I just thought it was interesting. I haven't seen a book yet that trys to show how unprofitable poker is. I guess to some degree there book is very relevant to the losing players that play MTTs.
Anybody read this?

Re: Book Claims MTTs are -EV
havent read the book
but if clayton luckychewy and seabeast
played just tournaments for the next 30 years
id faint if they werent all significant winning players.
which you would have to argue makes tournys a skill game
(clearly not the same as 250bb cash however still skill should prevail)

fwiw someone wrote a post on 2+2 a while ago claiming how hard it was to win money in 10ks. with variance and taxes, it really is hard as fuck to win at them.

Re: Book Claims MTTs are -EV
I've played in a ton of live MTTs, and I keep meticulous records (for taxes obviously).
I'd hate to do it (live poker is slow/boring if played for months on end imo) but if someone bet me enough money, I'd play just them for a living. And that's without moving away from idaho (I would have to be allowed to play underground games though).

Re: Book Claims MTTs are -EV
I guess I should clarify that I'm not questioning whether or not one can make money from mtts. I merely found it interesting to see a book that methodically shows how tough it can be to make money from MTTs. Think zero sum tough here, ie more than 50% of players are losing money (60% a reasonable estimate for MTTs?). That's what I meant by "relevant to losing players".

Re: Book Claims MTTs are -EV
I was a winning MTT player before moving to cash.
One thing I have noticed is that MTT players seem to have far less disposable income than cash players.
Their downswings are so brutal they can't afford to spend much of what they win unless its a monster bink
