Default Tactics when moving up

Lately i have been tearing up the micro stakes and have progressed to be able to play 50 nl.

Atm i am pretty happy just sticking with 25 nl deep or 25 regular and try and find the most aggressive tables to test myself at that limit to see if im really ready for the leap into the next level.

When you move up:

What kind of games do you look for? (passive/low Player Preflop %, short stackers, few regs)

How many blinds do you buy in for? Generally i go about 80 BB's for a new stake, others only play 100Blinds deep at a minimum even when trying a new stake.

how many buy ins for a move up? I think as you progress higher up this gets nittier and nittier. Right now i think im good for 15 buy ins at 50nl as i play an unprotected roll as i am willing to play at 25nl if things don't start off too well. That said if i were to one day play 200 nl id probably want 50 buy ins to be comfortable.

What is your general strategy when playing a limit higher? do you try and nit it up and wait for premium hands or do you play your normal game at all times.

How long do you play for in shot taking mode? half hour at the start for me

Makes no sense to tighten up .
If you feel uncomfortable in playing yr style ...i guess you`re nor ready for next the limit

ya thats a fair point, i would probably just try and get into tighter games so i won't be put in tougher spots at least in that shot taking period

I simply disagree. What is wrong with tightening up a little bit to reduce variance and get comfortable at the stakes?

Fwiw, I am not the only one: http://www.leggopoker.com/forums/hig...73-post10.html

Disagree aswell, you might simply not have enough population reads to make some hands profitable

There's a lot of "it depends" when asking the moving up question. Thing like, "do you play for a living or is this a hobby?" come to mind.

Overall, when I shot take, I try to find at least 1 fish i know that's a sucker. That way there's at least some dead money on the table. I also play less tables at a time so I can focus more.

I also think playing "short" sessions is a good idea. A short session for me is 1-2 hours, for a normal person it's more like 30-40 minutes though.

Hope that helps a little. And if you wouldn't mind sharing more personal details I think I might be able to help out further.
