Default Narrow-wide ranges.

i was reading a very pricey book by one of the best online players. In his book he mentioned that we should bluff if our range is perceived very narrow and value bet more if your range is perceived very wide.

I understand the part to value bet more if our range is perceived wide as villian is gonig to look us up with weak holdings.

However, his advice of bluffing more in spots where our range is perceived narrow didnt make sense to me all.

For example: 5-10 NL cash game.
There is no history among the players.

Hero: AsKs Stacks: 1K
Villian: TT Stacks: 1K

Pre: Villian raises to 40, Hero calls.

Flop: QdJh7s rainbow
Villian C-bets 65 into 95, Hero calls.

Turn: Js
Villian checks, Hero checks behind

River: 3c
Villians bets 120 into 225, Hero raises to 290, villian calls.

Villian said Hero's range was very narrow, so he was going to call with any decent pair.
This is in contrary to what a writer said... HELP???

i guess my question is...when my perceived range on that flop is polarized, either too strong or too weak.. should i bluff more or not???

I think you are making 2 mistakes here. Most importantly, you must have history between the players to produce range in the first place. Any book on range is going to be about acquiring this information over time/hands played and the steps for using it to your advantage.

Second, the hand you list, in a bubble, looks like villain should call every time. You did not re-raise pre so little chance of AQ or KQ. You did not bet turn and with x2 Js out = very little chance you have one and the river is total blank. To villain you never have a hand (way smaller than narrow) and if by chance you did he kept the pot small.

On the river he only had to call 170 to win a 465 pot. He only needs to be right just over a third of the time.

That book sounds outdated or worded incorrectly. It's pretty easy to bluff a lot when you're perceived range based on board texture is strong and bluff less accordingly and go from there imo.
